Chapter 528: Blood Ties
A glimmer of light shone in Chen Yu's eyes. Yes, what a simple matter it was. Now, all that was missing between him and He Lingyun was a result; regardless of whether the two of them were blood-related, they needed a result.
Once this result came out, the stone in both their hearts would finally fall to the ground.
He nodded and said, "You're right. One test will resolve the doubts in everyone's hearts."
The members under the Star Moon Pavilion were spread across every industry. Even in the middle of the night, after one phone call from Mu Xi, the director of a testing center was already waiting for Chen Yu and Mu Xi at the laboratory.
"Hello, President Mu. I am a member of the liaison office under the Star Moon Pavilion. My name is Zhou Xingyue." A woman wearing a white lab coat, around thirty years old and quite attractive, greeted the two of them with a slight bow.
"Run a test to see if he and the owner of this drop of blood are blood-related." Mu Xi took out He Lingyun's blood sample and then pointed at Chen Yu. "I want to know within the shortest possible time."
"It will take about a few hours. Follow me," Zhou Xingyue said as she took the sample.
Chen Yu said nothing and followed Zhou Xingyue into the testing center.
After the blood sample was taken, Chen Yu and Mu Xi waited outside. A paternity test takes at least three hours to yield results.
Because Mu Xi had come in person, Zhou Xingyue worked even harder, putting in extra hours.
But for Chen Yu, these few hours felt like years.
Mu Xi lit a lady's cigarette, blew a smoke ring, and asked, "Chen Yu, if we hadn't appeared, what did you plan to do in the future?"
"Rise to the top," Chen Yu spat out the two words. "Then find out my own origins and ask them to their faces why they didn't want me."
"Then, if it is confirmed that you and she are mother and son, what will you do?" Mu Xi asked.
"Get to the bottom of what happened back then. Those who tore us mother and son apart must pay the price." Chen Yu paused.
"And then?" Mu Xi looked at Chen Yu with a sidelong glance.
"Do my utmost to protect her safety. Those who have hurt her over these years, those who have made her suffer grievances—I will make them pay back tenfold," Chen Yu said in a deep voice.
"Good. You have an unyielding spirit in your bones. The result will be out soon; let us wait and see." Mu Xi nodded.
Finally, under Chen Yu's agonizing anticipation, the door to the testing room opened, and Zhou Xingyue walked out hurriedly.
"President Mu..."
As soon as Zhou Xingyue opened her mouth, Mu Xi barked, "Give me the result directly."
"The two are mother and son."
Zhou Xingyue's words rang in Chen Yu's ears like a thunderclap. He snatched the report and read the result on it word by word.
"Paternity probability: 99.9%." Chen Yu stared fixedly at these words, saying nothing.
Suddenly, Chen Yu fell to his knees on the ground with a thud. Tears gushed out uncontrollably, and suppressed sobs escaped his throat. This god-like man, when faced with family, was ultimately unable to control his emotions.
"It's you, it really is you." Mu Xi's eyes were red. She stepped forward, held Chen Yu's head, and cried out, "Where have you been all these years? Do you know? For these decades, every time she closed her eyes, you were the one who appeared before her."
"She was in pain, she blamed herself. She couldn't forgive herself, hating herself for why she didn't watch over you and lost you. Chen Yu, you are her child, the child she has missed for decades."
Zhou Xingyue watched all of this in silence. Over the years, she had served as the director of the testing center and performed countless paternity tests.
When getting results, she could be said to have seen all walks of life—they cried and laughed, blamed and cursed; some couples parted ways, while others abandoned their young children.
Originally, she had become indifferent.
But everything before her still filled her eyes with tears. No one knew what Chen Yu and his mother had gone through; she only vaguely knew that the separation of flesh and blood for decades had made this man cry his heart out.
"Don't tell her for now." After a long time, Chen Yu took a deep breath and finally calmed down.
"Why?" Mu Xi asked.
"Because there are some things I haven't investigated clearly yet. At least, don't tell her until she leaves Ning City." Chen Yu slowly stood up. "Whether it's the He Family or the Chen Family, they owe us too much."
"I haven't figured out the matter regarding the Zhou Family yet. Once I do, I will go to Shengjing to find you."
"Good." Mu Xi quickly understood the reason behind this. She nodded slightly and said, "I will tell her after we board the plane."
"Mm. Mu, she doesn't have anyone she can trust by her side, only you. You know how to persuade her," Chen Yu said, looking up.
"I know, don't worry." Mu Xi helped Chen Yu up. "Xingyue is the Deacon of our Star Moon Pavilion in Ning City. After I leave Ning City, if you have any matters, contact her directly. At the very least, she can provide you with the intelligence you need."
"Good." Chen Yu nodded.
Mu Xi looked at Zhou Xingyue: "From now on in Ning City, Chen Yu's words are my words. Do you understand?"
"Understood. Please rest assured, President Mu, I will definitely cooperate fully with Mr. Chen." Zhou Xingyue bowed slightly.
The next day, at the airport.
The emotions Chen Yu displayed in front of He Lingyun were very calm, only his gaze toward her held a hint more intimacy. Not until he sent her onto the private plane and watched it disappear into the clouds did Chen Yu withdraw his gaze.
The Zhou Family definitely had secrets. Zhou Jihai's behavior was different from a normal person's, and Chen Yu had to find out what was going on.
On the plane, looking at the clouds outside the window, He Lingyun felt empty inside.
"What are you thinking about?" Mu Xi asked.
"Nothing in particular, just feeling empty inside, as if I have parted with my own kin," He Lingyun murmured. "Chen Yu, who exactly are you?"
"Who he is, you will know very soon." Mu Xi smiled.
"What do you mean?" He Lingyun was startled, looking at her with some confusion.
"Take a look at this report." Mu Xi took out the paternity test report and handed it to He Lingyun.
"Paternity test?" He Lingyun was completely bewildered. She took the report and looked at the findings on it.
"Yesterday, while you were resting, I took a blood sample from you and took Chen Yu to get a paternity test report done," Mu Xi said leisurely. "This report..."
As she said this, He Lingyun's eyes widened suddenly. She stood up with a start, staring fixedly at the report, then dropped the paper and grabbed Mu Xi desperately: "This report, is it a paternity test report for me and Chen Yu? Tell me, is it?"
"Yes." Mu Xi's arms were gripped until they hurt. She shed tears and smiled: "He is your son. He is the son you have dreamed of since he was born. He is still alive, he has grown up, and he can protect himself and even stand on his own two feet."
