Chapter 604: Go in Peace
"Good." Li Cheng nodded. He took the blade from Chen Yu's hand, gripped it tightly with both hands, and stared fixedly at the person in front of him.
The officer lowered his head, then a brilliant red glow surged in his eyes. He leaped up, his blade let out a whistle, and he slashed fiercely down at Li Cheng's head.
Since Li Cheng could serve as the captain of the Blue Sword Brigade, his strength was certainly no joke. He let out a deep shout and raised the blade in his hand to meet the attack.
Clang, clang—the blades in their hands collided, sending out a string of sparks. The Fusang officer's swordsmanship was not bad; in an instant, the two had exchanged dozens of blows.
Suddenly, Li Cheng moved toward the opponent's blade. Just as the blade was about to graze his head, he sank his body slightly and then quickly brushed past the officer.
Pfft—the blade in Li Cheng's hand left a wound on the opponent's neck.
A fiery glow flickered at the blade mark. The Fusang officer's body trembled violently, and a moment later, he fell to his knees on the ground with a thud.
He propped himself up with his blade, seemingly unwilling to submit, but the blade that struck him had been imbued with a technique by Chen Yu; one strike was enough to break his curse.
"What, what year is, is it now?" the Fusang officer asked stutteringly in stiff Huaxia language.
"It is the 21st century now. More than seventy years have passed since your Fusang Emperor announced surrender," Chen Yu said indifferently.
"Impossible..." The red glow in the Fusang officer's eyes surged, and he roared with all his might: "The Emperor, it is impossible for him to be defeated."
"Look at the person who defeated you. This is a modern soldier of our Huaxia. Their predecessors were the very opponents you faced back then." Chen Yu pointed at Li Cheng: "You must face reality."
The officer looked at Li Cheng, trembling, a strange expression flashing across his eyes.
He looked at Li Cheng's straight posture, looked at his sophisticated equipment, and the fighting spirit erupting from his body; he found it somewhat hard to believe.
Was this that ragged troop from back then, the one without many guns, that couldn't get enough to eat, and didn't even have uniforms?
But whether he believed it or not, the fact was laid out right before his eyes.
He looked at Li Cheng, the eerie light in his eyes flickering from time to time, seemingly unwilling to give up.
"I know what you are thinking. You are unwilling, and you don't believe your Emperor would be defeated." Chen Yu said indifferently: "But this is the fact. Our Huaxia is currently in a prosperous age, and the war has ended. You may go in peace."
Chen Yu's words seemed to awaken him. The officer nodded slightly, the eerie light in his eyes slowly dimming. A whirlwind surged from his body, his form turned into ashes, and he soon disappeared from sight.
Only then did Chen Yu breathe a sigh of relief. This fellow's obsession was too heavy; unless he let go of it himself, there was no other way.
Otherwise, Chen Yu would have to use thunderous means to scatter his soul. Chen Yu did not pity him, it was just that such methods were too harmful to the harmony of heaven, so unless absolutely necessary, he was unwilling to act.
"Let's go into the cave and take a look. There must be something inside," Chen Yu said.
The six officers had risked not entering the Reincarnation to set up the Corpse Ambush Curse, all to guard the things inside the cave. But Chen Yu did not know what was inside that was worth them risking their lives like this.
Chen Yu entered the cave entrance and only felt a burst of cool air rushing toward his face.
He saw that inside the cave, there was still one officer left. His uniform was intact, but his body had already turned into a skeleton.
Judging from his military rank, he should have been a Colonel. His rank was quite high. He lay on the ground, but his remains only consisted of the upper body.
Chen Yu stepped forward to examine it, his brows knitting even tighter: "This officer's lower body is missing. Looking at the degree of the bone fractures, it should have been bitten off by something alive. There is a fierce creature in here."
Hearing this, everyone was shocked. Ye Qingning asked: "Chen Yu, the fierce creature you mentioned... you don't just mean something like a wild beast, right?"
"Of course not." Chen Yu's expression was somewhat grave: "Something that exceeds human cognition."
Chen Yu thought for a moment, but still did not spit out the word 'demon'. He was afraid of causing panic.
"But why would these Fusang officers appear here? What is their purpose? The people outside risked their lives to guard this person inside. What is this person's identity?" Ye Qingning was puzzled.
Chen Yu did not speak. He looked around, and suddenly, he saw a large military pack.
This was a specially made military pack. Although decades had passed, the fabric on the outside of the pack was still quite intact.
It was just covered in a thick layer of dust. Chen Yu stepped forward, flipped the pack over, and opened the zipper on top, only to see a mechanical combination lock revealed inside.
This was a specially made military pack with a lock inside. Protected by something so secure, the contents must certainly not be ordinary.
"There is a diary here." Huang Wei suddenly picked up a diary from the ground and handed it to Chen Yu.
Chen Yu opened it and saw that the diary inside was written in Fusang script.
Most of the characters in the Fusang script were the same as Chinese characters, but the cultural differences between the two sides still left Chen Yu feeling confused.
"Let me take a look. I understand a little." Li Cheng took the diary and flipped through a few pages. The more he read, the more grave his expression became.
"What is written on it?" After Li Cheng closed the diary, Chen Yu and the others asked impatiently.
"My knowledge is limited, but I can roughly make out the meaning. The diary records the mission of this Fusang officer coming here. This troop was a special unit, and their purpose was to search for treasures throughout Huaxia."
"And the goal of their mission this time was to find a type of Heavenly Material and Earthly Treasure called 'Manyue Liuxin'."
"'Manyue Liuxin'?" Ye Qingning's expression changed drastically.
"Yes. But after they went through all kinds of hardships to get here, they lost their way in the underground karst cave, then stumbled in here, and encountered an attack by monsters, so the entire troop was wiped out," Li Cheng explained.
"It seems they didn't succeed, which means we are very close to the location of the Manyue Liuxin," Chen Yu said with a frown: "This kind of Heavenly Material and Earthly Treasure grows in places where earth veins intersect. Because it belongs to a Half-Spirit Grade medicine, there must be a fierce creature guarding it nearby."
"The thing that attacked them should be the fierce creature guarding the Manyue Liuxin. It's a pity these people thought that with sophisticated equipment, they could plunder Huaxia as they pleased. Unfortunately, they knew too little about our Huaxia culture," Chen Yu said.
"What is in the pack?" Li Cheng asked.
"Open it and you'll know." Chen Yu grabbed with his right hand, Lichen in hand. He raised his hand and the sword fell. With a clang, the lock under the travel pack was sliced open by the Lichen Sword in Chen Yu's hand.
Opening the travel pack and taking a look at the contents, Chen Yu's breathing stalled, and his expression changed.
