Chapter 75: Do You Need My Help?

~7 min read 1,312 words

She sobbed as she cried, not daring to hit herself too lightly or too heavily; in less than five minutes, her face was as swollen as a pig's head.

"President Chen, if you are not satisfied, I will make Zhou Mazi disappear tomorrow." Li Han walked to Chen Yu's side.

"No, President Chen, please spare me. I will return the money to you; I really won't dare to do it again in the future." Zhou Mazi's two legs had been broken, and he was covered in blood as he crawled toward Chen Yu.

"That's enough, just let him get out of Fengling," Chen Yu said indifferently.

"Yes, I understand." Li Han nodded.

Chen Yu went downstairs, and Ye Xinyu hurriedly stood up and asked, "How is it, husband?"

"It's fine, it's all resolved, they returned the money." Chen Yu smiled: "Remember for the future, never take Jade directly from someone's hand; wait for the other party to place it on the counter before you take it, you cannot receive it directly with your hands."

"I know, husband. Why am I so useless, causing you such big trouble?" Ye Xinyu said with some remorse.

"Alright, it's fine. Why did you run out now?" Chen Yu said.

"I was thinking that Dad's birthday is the day after tomorrow, and I wanted to come pick out a gift to take back. Husband, you haven't been back for so long either; there is no overnight grudge between father and son, and besides, you have already changed now." Ye Xinyu raised her head and said.

"Is his birthday the day after tomorrow?" Chen Yu patted his head, almost forgetting about this matter.

"Yes, it's the day after tomorrow. Look at you, so busy you've forgotten everything." Ye Xinyu smiled: "What gift should we prepare for him?"

"I'll prepare it, you don't need to worry about these things." Chen Yu put his arm around her and said: "Let's go home."

"You... why do you have a scent of perfume on you?" Ye Xinyu asked suddenly.

"Ah?" Chen Yu was stunned; he had just finished dealing with Song Mengyan's matter, and when he sent her home, there was inevitably some physical contact.

A woman's sixth sense is very strong, especially a pregnant woman's, whose suspicions are even heavier, but he and Song Mengyan really had nothing going on.

"Wife, listen to me, a business partner of mine ran into some trouble, and I, I sent her back, but rest assured, we really have nothing going on." Chen Yu said stutteringly.

"Really?" Ye Xinyu looked at Chen Yu, half-believing and half-doubting.

"Really, I swear." Chen Yu said solemnly.

"Pfft." Seeing Chen Yu's nervous appearance, Ye Xinyu laughed: "Don't be nervous, I didn't say anything. Husband, you have the ability now, there won't be a shortage of all kinds of women around you."

"But... I believe in you." Ye Xinyu said.

"That's good, let's go home, wife." Chen Yu smiled and helped Ye Xinyu leave.

"Hey, you two... do you consider me air?" Ye Qian stomped her feet in anger; she felt that she couldn't even get a word in with this couple, she was just a living lightbulb.

The day after tomorrow, Yaoshan.

Yaoshan is about thirty kilometers east of Fengling; this place is rich in traditional Chinese medicine, and every household has a greenhouse for cultivating medicinal herbs.

Chen Yu's home is in a village at the foot of Yaoshan; after decades of development, this place has become a massive Traditional Chinese Medicine Market.

"Xiaoyu, you're back?" An acquaintance saw Chen Yu.

"Yes, Uncle Wang, I'm back." Chen Yu said indifferently.

"It's good that you're back, go home and take a look." Uncle Wang sighed secretly, shook his head, and left.

Chen Yu grew up here; although he hadn't been back for several years, everyone still recognized him and greeted him with lukewarm attitudes.

After Chen Yu passed, a group of people behind him pointed at him: "Isn't that the good-for-nothing son of the old Chen family?"

"It's him, he squandered his father's savings and then lost contact. He's still alive."

"Looks like he's made it big, driving a G-Wagon and bringing such a beautiful wife."

"Hmph, maybe the car and the wife are both rented. With his shiftless ways, how could such a beautiful girl be with him?"

When they reached the path to his home, Chen Yu stopped; his hand holding the gift trembled slightly.

He hadn't seen his father for many years; he wondered if he was doing well now.

"Husband, don't be nervous. There is no overnight grudge between father and son; Dad might have been hoping for your return all along." Ye Xinyu saw Chen Yu's mood and held his hand.

"Alright, let's go back." Chen Yu smiled, held Ye Xinyu's hand, and walked along the path toward home. He hadn't seen the place where he grew up for many years, and Chen Yu was a bit emotional.

When he rounded the path and looked toward the direction of his home, he couldn't help but be stunned. Where his home used to be, there was no courtyard in his memory, but a warehouse built of sheet metal.

"How could this be? Where is my home? Where is my dad?" Chen Yu was shocked.

"Xiaoyu, you're back?" A man was startled when he saw Chen Yu; he was the neighbor, Mu Shu, the father of Mu Yanhong.

"Mu Shu, how did my home become a warehouse? Where did my dad go?" Chen Yu demanded.

"Xiaoyu, you haven't been back for these years, so you don't know what happened at home. Your dad is up on the mountain by the greenhouses; he lives in a small sheet metal shack he built there. You should go take a look quickly." Mu Shu said.

"What happened to my home?" Chen Yu asked.

"Your uncle... and a few hooligans in the village saw that you hadn't returned for years, so they bullied your family because there was no one there, and occupied your homestead... they tore down your house and built a warehouse to store their medicinal herbs." Mu Shu sighed.

Chen Yu's face turned livid. In his hometown, people mocked the poor and hated the rich, bullying the widowed and orphaned. He had been gone for a few years, and even his uncle Chen Shan had bullied his family?

He turned around and walked toward the mountain.

On the hillside were patches of greenhouses for medicinal fields. Yaoshan is a calling card for Fengling, known as the "Home of Medicinal Fields," and every year, a large quantity of medicinal herbs flows from here to the whole country.

In a remote medicinal field, a simple shack built of sheet metal was where his father, Chen Wenzhong, lived.

A man with graying hair and an aged face was outside tidying up medicinal herbs. One of his arms was in a cotton sling; he must have been injured. Because one arm was inconvenient, every movement he made appeared extremely difficult.

"Dad..." The gift Chen Yu had prepared for his father fell to the ground, and he called out with a trembling voice.

It was hard to believe that the person before him with gray hair and an aged appearance was his father. He was clearly only in his fifties this year; he had aged so much in the few years he hadn't seen him, and what was wrong with his hand?

Chen Wenzhong's movements stiffened. He turned his head in disbelief, and the moment he saw Chen Yu, he couldn't believe his eyes.

"Clatter..." The things in Chen Wenzhong's hands fell to the ground.

"Dad..." Chen Yu's eyes filled with hot tears. He walked forward slowly and knelt on the ground: "I'm back."

"You're back... that's good, good." Chen Wenzhong murmured, repeating these words, as turbid tears fell from his eyes.
