Chapter 79: The Time Has Not Yet Come
"Dad, what is this?" Chen Yu was stunned.
"When I found you, you were only a few months old, abandoned at the foot of the Mountain, crying loudly. The only thing that can prove your identity is probably this letter. Your name and birth date are written on the envelope, but I have never looked at what is inside."
Chen Wenzhong said, "Now that you are grown up, open the letter and take a look. Perhaps you can find news about your biological parents from it."
The hand holding the letter stiffened slightly. Chen Yu looked at the letter with a complex expression, then threw it into the fire pit to the side without hesitation.
"Xiaoyu, what are you doing?" Chen Wenzhong was startled. "Don't you want to find your biological parents anymore?"
"I am your biological child; why would I look for them?" Chen Yu smiled. "Dad, I only recognize you as my father in this life."
"They might have had unavoidable reasons for abandoning you," Chen Wenzhong sighed and said.
"That can only be called fate. I have no connection with them. I don't want to know about the past. I only recognize you as my family in this life," Chen Yu said earnestly.
"I respect your choice, but if one day your abilities reach a certain height, go to Shengjing and take a look," Chen Wenzhong nodded.
"Okay." Chen Yu smiled and said, "Dad, I have invested in a Medicine company and hold a significant stake. The climate at Yaoshan is suitable for growing various Chinese herbs."
"I want to lease all the surrounding medicinal fields and greenhouses to provide Chinese herbs for my Medicine company. You go and make the contacts. Don't worry about the funding; I will definitely not let the fellow villagers earn less than they do now," Chen Yu smiled.
"Yaoshan has tens of thousands of acres of medicinal fields in total. Can you handle that?" Chen Wenzhong was surprised.
"I can handle it, don't worry. You go and negotiate first. If it seems feasible, I will send people from the company to discuss the specific details," Chen Yu smiled.
"Okay, I will go and ask. Funding shouldn't be much of a problem," Chen Wenzhong nodded.
After staying with his father for a day, Chen Yu returned with Ye Xinyu in the afternoon.
"Husband, do you really not want to know about your background?" On the way, Ye Xinyu asked.
"I do." Chen Yu's expression was complex. "But now is not the time."
"Why is it not the time?" Ye Xinyu asked.
"I have heard of the Shengjing Chen Clan; their background is extremely deep. I don't know what kind of relationship I have with them, but with my current abilities, I am not enough to challenge them."
Chen Yu smiled and muttered, "I want to wait until the day I have grown up, and then I will go and search for my background."
Chen Yu's worry was not without reason. Ever since Liu Wenyuan appeared, he realized that his Life seemed to be controlled by an invisible giant hand.
He wanted to grow to a certain height and then find out who was controlling this hand behind the scenes. Before he became strong, he could only endure.
It was already late when they returned to Fengling. Just as they arrived home, a call from Ning Ruoxue came in: "Chen Yu, I need to see you, immediately."
"What is it? Where have you been these past few days?" Chen Yu asked.
"Don't talk nonsense, it's a very urgent matter," Ning Ruoxue said. "I have found the survivor of the car accident."
"I'll be there right away," Chen Yu's expression tightened.
In the suburbs, inside a dilapidated residential building, a woman was busy.
A five or six-year-old girl sat to the side, hugging a pink doll.
A man lay on the hospital bed, unconscious, his muscles slightly atrophied; he was a vegetative patient.
This man lying on the bed was Huang An, the survivor of the drunk driving case that caused three deaths and one injury a year ago. The woman was his wife, Wang Ling, and the little girl was their daughter, Jingjing.
At the time, the drunk driving case caused a sensation. The perpetrator, Chen Yu, who caused three deaths and one injury, had already been sentenced to death. Her husband was lucky to keep his life, but he became a vegetative patient.
The compensation money had long since been spent completely, and coupled with people harassing them from time to time, Wang Ling decided to leave the hospital and cut off contact with everyone.
But her husband needed care in bed, and her daughter needed to be raised, so the burden of the family fell entirely on her, a weak woman.
"Mom, the landlady auntie just came to ask for the rent," Jingjing whispered.
"Okay, I know. I will go pay her the rent another day," Wang Ling forced a smile.
"Mom, are we out of money?" Jingjing was very sensible; she could see the family's distress from her mother's expression. "I... I won't go to school anymore. I want to earn money to help Mom."
"Jingjing, be good. You are still young. Studying hard is helping Mom. Leave the matter of supporting the family to Mom; you don't need to worry," Wang Ling turned her head away and quietly wiped the tears from the corners of her eyes. Her daughter's sensibility made her even sadder.
Suddenly, the door opened, and a drunk man walked in.
"Brother Li, it's you. I'll give you the rent in a few days," Wang Ling was startled, a trace of anger on her face. This male landlord always liked to barge into the tenants' homes.
"Wang Ling, I'm not here for the rent today," the landlord chuckled, swaying as he walked up to Wang Ling. "I know you don't have money. How about this? If you sleep with me a few times a month, I'll waive your rent."
"Brother Li, you're drunk. You should go out quickly, otherwise, it will be troublesome if your wife finds out," Wang Ling took a step back, keeping her distance from him.
"If you don't say anything and I don't say anything, who would know? Haha, your husband is a vegetable, don't you want it?" The landlord leered, pressing toward Wang Ling. "A woman should use her own advantages. Lying on the bed and saving thousands in rent, isn't that good?"
"Don't come over. My daughter is still here, Brother Li. Please go out," Wang Ling retreated repeatedly.
"What are you pretending for? I don't believe you don't want a man. Letting you have some fun and saving money, you're still not happy?" The landlord chuckled and reached out to grab Wang Ling.
"Let go! Help! Jingjing, run!" Wang Ling screamed.
Jingjing was frightened and at a loss. She stood on the spot, not daring to move, only crying and shouting, "Let go of my mom! Uncle, let go of my mom!"
Suddenly, a bottle shattered on the landlord's head. The landlord let out a miserable shriek and let go. Immediately after, his chest was hit hard, and with a 'boom', he was kicked flying several meters away.
Wang Ling hugged her daughter in terror. Two people had appeared in the room without her knowing; these two were Chen Yu and Ning Ruoxue.
Chen Yu grabbed the landlord by the collar and said coldly, "Either get out, or I will throw you down from the third floor."
"I'll get out right away! Brother, this is all a misunderstanding," the landlord immediately cowered; after all, he was afraid of his own 'tigress' at home finding out about this.
Chen Yu kicked him out the door. The landlord lay on the ground, clutching his chest for a long time before struggling to get up, then slunk away.
"Hello, Ms. Wang. I am Ning Ruoxue. We have met before," Ning Ruoxue hurried forward.
"I remember you. You are the woman who wants to overturn the case for the perpetrator. Get out! My husband was hit by that bastard and became like this!" Wang Ling roared angrily.
