Chapter 967: Daming Buddhist Temple

~7 min read 1,331 words

"We are all Huaxia people, so let's not stand on such ceremony." Chen Yu smiled slightly and said, "Be careful on the way back. Also, here are six Amulets. Keep them on you; if you encounter an extremely dangerous enemy, just throw them out."

"Thank you, Mr. Chen." Zhou Yu took the Talismans from Chen Yu.

After bidding farewell to Zhou Yu and the others, Chen Yu took Yu Sichen and headed west.

With the map of the Daming Buddhist Temple in hand, they had a direction, unlike before when they were searching for the Buddhist Sect like headless flies.

"Brother Chen, what kind of place is the Daming Buddhist Temple, exactly?" On the way, Yu Sichen asked.

"The Daming Buddhist Temple is a hidden Buddhist Sect in the Western Region. Its abbot, Master Huipu, is a truly profound master. He is well-versed in Buddhist teachings and went into seclusion thirty years ago to contemplate the Dharma; he has not emerged since," Chen Yu said. "The Heart-Concealing Sutra is with him now. Once we find him and explain our intentions, I believe he will be willing to help us."

"Actually, I have been very happy having you accompany me during this time. Even if I were to die now, I would have no regrets," Yu Sili smiled. "If it really doesn't work out, just take me back. The Ancestral Ghost can still be suppressed for a while. If you accompany me for the final stretch of the road, I will be content."

"What kind of silly talk is that? The person I, Chen Yu, want to protect—not even the King of Hell can contend with me for them." Chen Yu stroked her hair and smiled.

Following the map on that piece of paper, the two arrived at the Daming Buddhist Temple.

The temple was situated at the foot of the Snow Mountain. Although the temple had a grand and imposing name, it was in fact a small temple, and the entrance was dilapidated, as if it had not been maintained for years.

"Brother Chen, is this the place?" Looking at the dilapidated little temple before her, Yu Sichen felt it was somewhat unbelievable.

Most Buddhist temples are magnificent and grand, and given the imposing name of the Daming Buddhist Temple, she found it hard to believe that what lay before her was just a small temple.

"In reality, most Buddhist temples lingering in the world today are commercialized, which is why many look very luxurious, and monks give people the impression of being wealthy. But in truth, most ascetic monks are the real practitioners."

"They live in seclusion to cultivate, leading lives of hardship, cultivating their hearts and the Buddha. Master Huipu, the high monk of the Daming Buddhist Temple, is a true high monk. Like your master, Huizhao Shitai, he is worthy of respect, so it is not strange that he lives here. Let's go in and take a look first," Chen Yu pondered for a moment and said.

Yu Sichen nodded, and together with Chen Yu, she walked toward the temple.

Pushing open the dilapidated door, the two were slightly stunned. Although the temple looked dilapidated on the outside, it was spotless inside; the ground was smooth, and there wasn't even a single fallen leaf on the trees.

Moreover, the Buddha statue enshrined in the main hall was bright in color, and the offering table was wiped clean of any dust.

"Junior Chen Yu has come to seek an audience with Master Huipu. Forgive me for disturbing the Master's quiet cultivation," Chen Yu gathered his Qi and cupped his hands. No matter what, etiquette could not be neglected.

His voice traveled far, echoing in the temple like a great bell, but after he called out for a long time, no one inside responded.

"Is anyone there?" Chen Yu asked.

Just then, the door to the backyard creaked open, and a little monk of about ten years old, looking dim-witted, walked out from inside.

Seeing Chen Yu, he pressed his palms together and said, "Benefactors, my master has been in quiet cultivation for a long time. Our temple no longer receives guests; please return, both of you."

"Little Master, we have come to the temple to find Master Huipu. Would it be convenient to inform him?" Chen Yu asked.

"Not convenient, not convenient. Master has been in quiet cultivation for decades," the little monk shook his head.

"How old are you?" Yu Sichen found the little monk very cute, so she leaned down and smiled.

"Ten years old." The little monk looked at Yu Sichen with a dim-witted expression.

"Your master has been in quiet cultivation for decades, and you are only ten? Then when did you become his disciple?" Yu Sichen asked.

"Ouch, I was picked up from the mountains by my Senior Brothers. My Senior Brothers accepted me as a disciple on behalf of Master. Why are you so annoying? Leave quickly; we don't receive strangers here. Go quickly!" The little monk seemed to have had something exposed and said with some annoyance.

"Little monk, where is your Senior Brother? Let me see your Senior Brother?" Chen Yu also felt that this little monk was a bit strange; no matter what, one shouldn't just drive people away, right?

"My Senior Brother is doing his morning lessons. You had better not go see him; my Senior Brothers are very fierce," the little monk shook his head.

"How many Senior Brothers do you have?" Chen Yu asked.

"Three." The little monk held up three fingers, then glanced behind him: "You should leave quickly. If my Senior Brothers discover you, you won't be able to leave."

"Then I must go in and see even more. Is your Senior Brother that terrifying? Does he eat people?" Chen Yu laughed.

The little monk suddenly raised his head and said with a straight face: "My Senior Brother really does eat people."

"I have never seen a monk who eats people. Why don't you let me witness it today?" Chen Yu smiled faintly; he was already certain that there was something wrong with this little monk.

"Hehe, do you really want to see?" The little monk stared at Chen Yu.

"I really want to see." Chen Yu nodded.

"Alright then, don't regret it." The little monk turned around and said: "Follow me."

Chen Yu and Yu Sichen exchanged a look. Chen Yu gave Yu Sichen a look of caution, then followed the little monk inside.

Upon reaching the backyard, they saw a bald, shirtless monk covered in fat holding an axe, chopping wood stroke by stroke. This monk had a fierce appearance, as if he were an internationally wanted bandit.

"Senior Brother Mingjue, someone is here to see Master," the little monk shouted.

"Who is looking for Master?" Mingjue threw the axe in his hand, turned around, and barked.

This monk had a fierce face, lacking any trace of a monk's compassion. Moreover, the Snow Mountain was not far away, so one could imagine the temperature, yet he was shirtless and not afraid of the cold at all.

"They insisted on coming in; there was nothing I could do," the little monk said helplessly.

"What are you here for? If there's nothing, leave. We don't take in outsiders in our temple." Mingjue's voice was extremely loud, giving the impression that he was about to start a fight the moment he opened his mouth.

"Master Mingjue, we have come to seek an audience with Master Huipu. Please introduce us," Chen Yu said.

"Introduce my foot! Master has been in seclusion for decades. I don't even know if he's dead or alive, so how can I introduce you? You two leave quickly; if you don't leave now, you won't be able to leave later." As Mingjue spoke, he prepared to drive Chen Yu out.

Just then, the door to the woodshed opened, and a monk with a face full of flesh walked out: "Mingjue, have guests arrived?"
