Chapter 338
It was clearly enormous.
The captured memory images flickered.
Backstage.
Tony walked quickly toward a woman.
Leaning against the wall, Tony seemed somewhat uneasy.
The woman said, "You did a good thing for those young people."
Tony replied flatly, "It was the right thing to do."
"It also makes my conscience feel a bit better."
The woman continued, "They say generous acts are often tied to guilt."
"But as long as you have money, making a few small mistakes doesn't matter. Right?"
Tony turned to look at her, forced a smile while pressing his lips together, and pressed the elevator button for her.
"Are you going up?"
The woman said, "I am exactly where I belong."
The woman pulled a photograph from her wallet.
She slammed the photo violently against Tony's chest.
Staring into Tony's eyes, the woman said, "His name is Charlie. You killed him in Sokovia."
"To you, this isn't even a big deal."
"Did you think you were fighting for us?"
"You were only fighting for yourself!"
The woman's tone grew increasingly angry.
"Who will avenge my son? Stark?"
"He is dead, and it is all your fault."
Having said this, the woman left immediately.
Tony looked at the child in the photograph, silent and still.
"This... I can only say that such things are unavoidable."
"I feel like with people like this... you can't save them, but saving them is also damn impossible."
"How does everything end up being pinned on Tony?"
"Back then, the city was about to explode! It was Tony who bore such immense pressure to shatter the city!"
"Truly, it is so chilling!"
"No one wants this kind of thing to happen."
"I can only say that if the Avengers hadn't been there then, your son would have died even more miserably!"
"Mindless crowds shift the blame onto the very people who saved them! And they do it with such self-righteousness!"
"Calling Tony selfish? You're the damn selfish one, thinking only of your own son."
"Moral kidnapping! Let the Hulk punch some truth into you."
The woman's reckless accusations ignited the anger of some audience members.
It was just some memory fragments captured afterward.
They directly detonated a bomb within the citizens of the Blue Star Federation.
The scene flickered.
Inside a room.
Wanda was watching the television.
It was broadcasting the news.
The news showed the building she had accidentally destroyed while carrying out a mission back then.
Wanda clutched her head.
She felt somewhat anxious.
Behind her, Captain Luo Jiesi turned off the television.
He walked over and looked at her.
Luo Jiesi said dejectedly, "When Rumlow mentioned Bucky earlier, it felt like I was suddenly thrown back sixty years."
"I noticed they were all wearing bulletproof vests; I should have been on guard."
"It is all my responsibility."
Wanda said, "We all share the responsibility."
Luo Jiesi shook his head and said, "This job."
"We always strive to save as many people as possible."
"But sometimes, we cannot save everyone."
"If we cannot accept that fact, then next time."
"We might not be able to save a single person."
Wanda lowered her head without speaking.
Suddenly, Vision phased directly through the wall.
Appearing inside the room.
Wanda said immediately, "Vision, why are you doing this again?"
Vision pointed at the doorway and said, "Uh, the door was open, so I thought..."
Vision said to Luo Jiesi, "Captain Luo Jiesi said to notify him as soon as Mr. Stark returns."
Luo Jiesi nodded. "Alright, thanks. I'll head down now."
Vision walked toward the door and said, "This time, I'll use the door."
Reaching the doorway, Vision added, "Oh, right. He also brought back a guest."
Luo Jiesi asked, "Do we know them?"
Vision replied, "It's an official leader."
Inside the conference room.
The Avengers were basically all here.
Except for Thor and the Hulk, who were absent.
Tony sat in the corner.
Everyone listened as the official leader recounted his past.
The leader addressed the group: "The entire world owes the Avengers a huge debt."
"You fought for us, risking your lives to protect us."
Looking at everyone, the leader continued, "Many people regard you as heroes."
"But some people..."
The leader paused, then said, "Prefer to describe you as vigilantes."
Black Widow asked dubiously, "Leader, which word are you using?"
The leader stated bluntly, "Dangerous. How about that?"
"A group of super-powered individuals living in our country."
"Frequently ignoring sovereign borders!"
"Imposing their will upon any place and any person they choose."
"And entirely disregarding the consequences."
The leader's tone grew increasingly heavy and urgent.
As if venting pent-up frustration.
"What would you call such people?"
No one spoke.
Then the leader activated the display screen.
Video footage after video footage of explosions and disaster scenes appeared.
These were all incidents from when the Avengers had been protecting others.
The accidental explosions, destruction, and so forth that they had caused.
