Chapter 216: Demon-Faced Flame
The term "Messiah" originates from the Hebrew "Mashiach", meaning "the anointed one".
In ancient times, when an Israelite king, High Priest, or Prophet took office, a ceremony of anointing with holy oil was performed, symbolizing that they were chosen by God to bear important duties.
Later, after the fall of the Jewish nation, Jewish legend holds that God will ultimately send an "anointed one", i. e., the Messiah, to restore the Jewish state.
Thus the Messiah became the specific title for the "restoration savior" that the Jews yearned for.
In other words, the Messiah is not a deity; he is always a human, a political and spiritual leader selected and anointed by God.
Moreover, Christianity claims that the Jesus they worship is the Messiah, but not the "restoration savior" type; rather, the "Savior", believing that Christ was born into the Human World to rescue the souls of those who believe in him from sin and grant them eternal life.
This thus conflicted with the Jews' "restoration savior", and with various reasons piled together, they do not acknowledge Jesus' identity.
The man before Yu Lin claims to be the Messiah, which means—
This guy has already been recognized as a "restoration savior"?
Judging by his current abilities and the recent international situation, if he doesn't provoke Yu Lin, he might truly be able to make it happen for him.
"Sorry, I'm not interested in this."
Yu Lin said calmly, pointing at his hexagram pendant, "Do you think this can protect you?"
Regarding Yu Lin's question.
The man who calls himself Messiah gave no answer, only lowered his head to look at the pendant and said softly:
"Shortly after King Solomon's coronation, during a sacrifice at Gibeon, God appeared to him in a dream."
"God said, 'What shall I give you? You may ask.'"
"King Solomon did not ask for longevity, wealth, or the lives of his enemies; instead he said, 'Grant me wisdom, so I may judge your people and discern right from wrong.'"
"God was delighted with his request, promising him brilliant wisdom—none before him possessed it, none after him will, granting him unparalleled wisdom."
"The world only knows that he used this wisdom to forge a ring, but no one knows that in his later years he strayed from the path, violated God's covenant, and had his wisdom and kingdom taken back."
"He secretly forged a pendant, sealing all his power, all his wisdom, even God's favor, within it............."
"Awaiting a future person to restore the kingdom."
He did not continue, but the intent behind his words is not hard to grasp.
This guy believes that possessing this pendant makes him the restorer.
The restorer is the Messiah, so he calls himself Messiah.
By further borrowing this pendant to wield abilities, aligning with his restoration idea, Judaism would naturally endorse his identity.
Savior? That can be discussed after restoration; after all, restoration comes first.
He waited until he finished speaking.
Yu Lin nodded, "Finished?"
"I happen to have a token as well, let's test it."
He said, removing the Silver Coin pendant from his neck.
With a light flick, it flew toward the Messiah.
"Ignorant." Messiah chuckled lightly, his face still maintaining that same composure.
He raised the hexagram in his hand and began chanting prayer words.
Accompanying his prayer, the hexagram pendant suddenly erupted with an immeasurable aura! A Golden Light shot upward, forming a sky‑covering hexagram illusion that almost enveloped the entire horizon!
"In the name of the Lord—" Messiah's voice thundered:
"Suppress the great blasphemer!"
A golden beam of light crashed down from the center of the hexagram, striking Yu Lin! Where the beam passed, space warped, as if it would grind all things to dust!
Then Messiah confidently raised his hand, trying to seize the flying Silver Coin.
Yet the Silver Coin flashed suddenly, bizarrely slipping past his palm!
Bang!
A crisp shattering sound rang out.
In Messiah's incredulous gaze, the Silver Coin struck the hexagram pendant precisely!
The Holy Relic he claimed in his mouth to contain all of Solomon's wisdom shattered like ordinary glass, breaking into countless fragments that fell to the ground!
The hexagram illusion in the sky vanished instantly, as if it had never existed.
The suppressing beam also disintegrated midair, turning into specks of Golden Light that drifted down.
Messiah froze in place, his outstretched hand still hovering in the air.
The composure on his face was completely shattered, leaving only shock and bewilderment.
He lowered his head, looking at the dull fragments on the ground, his lips trembling slightly:
"No... impossible.........."
He suddenly fell to his knees, trembling hands trying to reassemble the fragments. Yet the pieces, as if stripped of all spirit, could not be restored no matter how hard he tried.
Finally, he looked up in despair, roaring at Yu Lin:
"Do you know what you've done?! You destroyed the Holy Relic, you are a sinner! You.........."
Before he could finish speaking, Yu Lin's palm already covered his mouth.
A cold glint flashed in those deep eyes, the Silver Coin swirling between his fingertips.
Messiah only felt an irresistible force surge into his mind, all memories being leafed through like pages of a book.
Moments later, Yu Lin casually tossed him aside, as if discarding a worn‑out doll.
He turned and walked toward the ruined Church.
The worshippers who had been seated on the ground rose instantly to block him.
Their eyes burned with fervent rage, their mouths chanting ancient incantations in unison, their hands forming intricate seals—
"By the Holy Name, I curse you—"
Yu Lin's eyes turned slightly cold as he lightly snapped his fingers.
Snap.
The clear sound seemed to freeze time.
All the followers' movements froze instantly, the chant cutting off abruptly.
Yu Lin walked calmly through their midst.
With each step he took, a follower silently collapsed to the ground, like harvested wheat.
Their eyes still held lingering fervor, yet they had lost all vitality.
By the time he reached the ruined church, a silent crowd of kneeling figures lay behind him.
He opened the church doors.
The interior decoration was as plain as its exterior.
Only a person lay on the platform at the front.
It was An Yu, who had fallen into a coma.
Yu Lin stepped forward, about to wake An Yu, when his gaze was caught by a line of small writing on the platform:
【Yu Lin, we're even.】
At the edge of the text was a cluster of flames making a grimace.
"Huh?"
Yu Lin raised an eyebrow, silently wondering who this guy was.
The grimacing flames... obviously a mischievous fellow.
It's probably Loki's doing, the one he's about to swindle next.
We'll see when the time comes.
Yu Lin pressed down his thoughts, then lifted his hand and lightly tapped An Yu's forehead:
"Wake up, wake up."
"You can't sleep here."
