Chapter 219: Glorious Death in Battle
Don't be nervous.
Yu Lin walked into the cave entrance, paying no heed to the giant bear's fierce gaze.
I'll heal your child; you give me some of your fur.
About that much.
He gestured with his hand.
The giant bear let out a low growl, its amber eyes full of vigilance.
It obviously didn't understand Yu Lin's words; its massive body leaned forward slightly, baring sharp fangs, as if to drive Yu Lin away.
Seeing Yu Lin still standing motionless, the giant bear let out a deafening roar,
The whole cave trembled! It pushed off with its hind legs and charged at Yu Lin like a moving hill!
Seeing this, Yu Lin raised his hand and pressed lightly.
The giant bear seemed to hit an invisible wall; its head was firmly held down, unable to lift even a bit no matter how it struggled.
Its sturdy limbs dug deep grooves into the stone floor, yet it could not move an inch.
"All right, don't move." Yu Lin's voice remained calm.
He extended his other hand, pointing at the weakest cub.
A soft WhiteLight flowed from his fingertip, slowly entering the cub's body.
The giant bear let out an anxious roar, struggling even more violently, and rocks rained down.
"Look." Yu Lin gently patted its head.
At the moment the WhiteLight faded, the near-dead cub twitched its nose, then staggered to its feet.
It shook its fluffy little head, let out a happy whimper, and began hopping around its mother, full of energy.
The giant bear instantly stopped struggling, incredulously watching the scene before it.
It gently touched the cub with its snout to confirm it was truly healed, then finally raised its head and let out a soft growl toward Yu Lin, followed by a nod.
This indicated its agreement to Yu Lin's deal.
Yu Lin released his hand and smiled: "Then let's cooperate happily."
My actions are quick; you don't need to endure.
At the moment his words fell.
At that moment, a patch of fur sufficient to make a fur coat fell from the giant bear's body, and its wounds healed simultaneously.
The several near-dead cubs on the ground were also instantly healed.
"All right, see you again if fate allows." Yu Lin put away the fur, patted the bear's arm, turned and walked outward.
Bye.
The giant bear watched his back, followed him up, and stood at the cave mouth watching him go away.
After a long howl that seemed to express gratitude, it turned and led the cubs back into the cave.
Thump thump thump.
A knocking sound rang out.
Coming.
Delain opened the door and saw Yu Lin standing at the doorway, smiling, with a piece of fur in his right hand.
You're pretty punctual, huh?
Indeed.
Delain took the fur from his hand, confirmed it was what he needed, and nodded:
Please have a seat.
Hmm.
Yu Lin walked in, sat down, watched him place the fur on the wooden table, then poured a cup of hot water and brought it over.
Thank you.
You're welcome.
Delain sat down and spoke in a low voice:
Since you've completed my task, I will also tell you the knowledge you need.
As far as I know, there is only one way to get to Asgard.
He picked up the book beside him, opened it, and revealed a portrait, a portrait of a woman's face:
The only humans who can enter Asgard are those warriors who died bravely in battle.
Valkyries are sent to the human battlefield to select these brave warriors.
These selected souls are called Einherjar; the Valkyries lead them across the Rainbow Bridge Bifrost to finally reach Asgard's Hall of Heroic Spirits.
Valkyries are also called Valkyrie; their numbers vary, either daughters of earthly kings chosen by the Gods, or Aoding's own daughters, or maiden warriors who vowed to serve the gods and were chosen by the Gods to ascend.
The purpose of selecting warriors is actually to strengthen the divine realm's forces before the Twilight of the Gods, to meet the needs of battle.
Numerous Valkyries each represent different aspects of war, or rather, they are the personifications of war's various aspects.
If this were the only method.
Then Yu Lin had a plan in mind.
He nodded and said: "I understand, thank you for your answer."
No thanks needed. Delain smiled slightly: "We each have our own needs, right?"
How about staying a while to eat together?
Yu Lin shook his head: "I can't."
I still have things to do; I'll go ahead first.
"Goodbye."
He stood up and left.
Watching his silhouette fade away, De Lai En suddenly remembered.
De Lai En still doesn't know what his name is.
Under the setting sun.
Yu Lin walked along a city's street and then found a spot to sit.
In the past few days he made some inquiries and compiled the information he obtained.
He is now in the region that later became Denmark.
The current king is called Ha La Er, known as the Blue Tooth King.
During his reign he ended the Northern Europe pirate era, incorporated Schleswig, Jutland and the surrounding islands into the realm, establishing a unified Danish kingdom.
Later, to resist German expansion, Ha La Er accepted the suzerainty of Otto I of the Holy Roman Empire and converted to Christianity.
Because the Roman emperors of the Holy Roman Empire used the fact that the Germanic and Slavic peoples were pagans who needed to convert to Christianity as an excuse, they fought them for decades.
It is also worth mentioning that this is the height of the Northern Europe pirate frenzy.
The Norse people (Vikings) are incredibly fierce in battle, utterly unafraid of death, and this is closely linked to their Odin worship.
As mentioned earlier, brave warriors who die in battle ascend to the Hall of Heroic Spirits; for them, death is not an end but a rebirth.
Later, the Western Europeans, plagued by Norse raids, realized that the only way to curb the Northern Europe pirates was to change their Odin faith and spread Christianity to them.
Thus, during Blue Tooth King Ha La Er's reign, they took the opportunity to introduce Christianity to Denmark.
When he embraced Christianity, a large number of his subjects also followed suit; Christianity then replaced Odin worship in Denmark and became dominant.
Thus the pirate era gradually ended.
However, although he later became enthusiastic about Christianity, he himself never completely abandoned the old faith.
When contemplating an attack on Iceland, he did not seek guidance from God, but instead "sent a sorcerer to Iceland to ask what he could see."
The sorcerer returned with news that Iceland was too distant and inhabited by all sorts of monsters, so he shelved his invasion plan.
That digression ends here for now.
Yu Lin's current plan is—to join the army under the Blue Tooth King, who has not yet introduced Christianity, and then die gloriously in battle against other pirates.
Now is a good time, because a battle a few months ago caused many of the Blue Tooth King's men to die, and he needs fresh troops.
Yu Lin's gaze fell on the nearby recruitment office; when he saw someone arrive, he stood up and said softly:
"Start connecting Bluetooth."
