Chapter 233: I Will Not Give Up Happiness
By rights.
Loki should have already been deceived by him, because he is Yu Lin, not Ares.
Moreover, Thor has already obtained Thor's Hammer, so he should have completed the mission.
But there is no indication of mission success now.
That means the current Loki is not Loki, or rather.
Yu Lin tends to think the current Loki is not a complete Loki........
"Luoqi."
"How do you intend to replace Loki?"
Yu Lin lowered his head to look at the pendant, then suddenly asked him again.
"Eh, what?" Luoqi's voice sounded slightly hazy and confused, as if just waking up.
"I was just a bit sleepy; say it again."
"Nothing."
Yu Lin chuckled, not repeating it, but instead turned his head to ask Shi Koudi:
"Shi Koudi, how much longer until we reach Mimir's Spring?"
"Let me check." After Shi Koudi lightly leapt down from high above, her eyes lit up; having confirmed the direction, she descended again:
"Just ahead to the left, about a day's walk and we'll be there."
"That long? Then I'll lead the way." Yu Lin grabbed Shi Koudi's arm, his figure flickering swiftly across the ground.
A day's journey was thus quickly shortened.
After half an hour, the two arrived at the location of Mimir's Spring.
In Yu Lin's sight.
Mimir's Spring lies deep in the roots of the World Tree Yggdrasil; the spring water is clear to the bottom, glowing with the light of wisdom.
By the spring grow strange plants; their leaves bead with crystal dew, each drop seemingly containing the secrets of the universe.
At the spring's center, Mimir's head floats silently.
This wise giant, though only a head remains, still exudes an awe-inspiring aura.
His eyes are deep as the starry sky, as if able to see through all truths of the world.
Around his head glows a faint halo, the accumulated wisdom of countless ages shining forth.
Mimir noticed Yu Lin's gaze; those eyes, filled with countless wisdom, turned toward him, and he soon showed a kind smile.
Yu Lin returned the smile, bringing Shi Koudi forward.
"Welcome, stranger." Mimir's voice was warm and profound, like an echo from ancient times.
His words carried deep meaning, as if he had seen Yu Lin's special origin; Yu Lin was not surprised—after all, Odin once traded an eye for Mimir's spring water, and Mimir, as the spring's master, could daily drink the Wisdom Spring Water, so his wisdom is easy to imagine.
"Greetings." Yu Lin bowed.
"No need for formalities." But the next moment, Mimir's tone shifted, carrying a hint of helplessness:
"Shi Koudi, why aren't you watering the World Tree and instead come here?"
Shi Koudi waved her hand: "Oh, I hardly ever get out; I just came to play."
"You don't welcome me?"
Mimir laughed heartily: "Welcome, welcome, of course we welcome you."
"Then what are you here to do?" he asked, clearly feigning ignorance.
Coming to this Fountain of Wisdom, what else could it be for if not to gain wisdom?
Yu Lin didn't beat around the bush, speaking directly:
"I came for this spring water; may I ask what I need to give in return?"
Mimir showed no surprise, merely saying softly: "How about an agreement?"
Yu Lin raised an eyebrow: "An agreement?"
Mimir smiled slightly: "I haven't decided yet, so I need you to make an agreement; I'll call on it when the time comes."
"Of course, you could also see it as me betting on your future."
Upon hearing this, Yu Lin understood: "I understand."
"All right, I accept."
Seeing his decisive answer, Mimir's smile grew wider.
He summoned the great horn at his side, which flew toward Yu Lin—this is the Galar Horn; although it shares the name with Heimdall's warning horn, it is not the same one.
Mimir used it as a vessel to hold the Wisdom Spring Water for his own drinking.
As the horn approached Yu Lin, it gradually shrank in midair, until it landed in his hand, having become the size of a normal ox horn.
Mimir said: "Go fetch the spring water."
"I must tell you beforehand: endless wisdom brings endless worry and sorrow."
"The more you know, the heavier the burden of responsibility; the clearer you see, the deeper the pain you endure."
"Wisdom is like a double-edged sword: it can cut through confusion, but it also wounds the soul."
His voice grew deep: "When you drink this spring water, you will see the world's true nature, but at the same time you will lose the happiness that ignorance brings."
Yu Lin nodded: "I understand."
"Thank you for the reminder."
Having said that, he stepped forward to the Fountain of Wisdom and scooped up water with the horn.
Then.
In the sight of Mimir and Shi Koudi, a pair of gloves appeared on his hands, as he said:
Drink it all, not a drop can be left.
Ah? Master, what is this?
This is wisdom.
Alright.
Does wisdom bring endless worries?
Then just let the glove drink; as the master of the glove, if the glove is smart, that means I am smart.
One of Yu Lin's few pleasures is, however, to blank his mind and scroll through videos!
He only saw him pour the spring water from the horn onto the glove, half with each hand, evenly moistening it.
Once the spring water was fully poured, a flash of light crossed the glove's surface, and its golden patterns were speckled with starlight.
Yu Lin asked, "How does it feel?"
Is it full of wisdom?
What name do you plan to give yourself now?
The glove's originally somewhat immature voice now sounded extraordinarily deep, and it slowly said: "Yes, I have seen everything, understood everything!"
But this feeling is not good; I feel my happiness is quickly slipping away.
So please allow me to temporarily seal away wisdom, to unseal it when needed.
As for my name.
As the saying goes, the greatest path is simplest............ the glove is my true name.
Yu Lin: ".........."
Whatever you want, as long as you're happy.
After the words fell, the glove hid again, disappearing from the sight of the two gods Mimi'er and Shi Koudi.
Seeing them doubtful, Yu Lin gave a light smile:
I don't want to give up my happiness.
