Chapter 237: This is an apple

~7 min read 1,216 words

"Not needed."

"One day I'll sit up there relying only on myself."

Loki didn't stop his steps, walking straight past Yu Lin's side, his gaze locked firmly on Aoding's figure ahead, his tone carrying his usual pride and a hint of stubbornness not easily noticed.

He stepped before Aoding, not continuing the standoff or mockery as everyone expected, but instead bent down and reached out a hand to the 'himself' sitting collapsed on the ground.

A faint light flashed, and the two figures merged like milk and water.

Loki's aura seemed to solidify for a moment, then returned to normal, though a strange gleam flickered in the depths of his cunning eyes.

He curled the corner of his mouth with a slightly evil charm and spoke softly:

"Losing this evil side really feels a bit unfamiliar."

"However."

He shifted his tone, looking at the gods of Asgard:

"I will compensate for the damaged things and your houses."

"Furthermore, this matter has nothing to do with Ares; it's entirely my own doing."

"I take full responsibility for this action."

As soon as he said that, Thor immediately spoke: "We certainly wouldn't think Ares did anything."

"We've seen all his actions these days."

"He's different from you."

Loki shrugged: "It's best if you think that way."

"Alright, I'll go build houses for you."

"Is there anything else?"

The gods said nothing; just as he was about to leave, Yu Lin's voice came from behind:

"Loki."

"What?"

"Actually, I'm not called Ares."

".............." Loki then turned fully, a flicker of 'as expected' crossing his face, he raised an eyebrow:

"Oh? You finally deigned to reveal your true name? Speak, I'm listening."

"Sure, listen well—I'm called Heracles."

"Heracles... alright, I've remembered it."

Loki nodded, murmuring a line, as if he'd truly etched that name into his heart.

"Anything else?"

In fact, it's also etched in his heart.

Because Yu Lin's mission countdown has started.

He grinned, laughing: "I lied to you—I'm not called Heracles."

"Actually, I'm called Yu Lin."

"Finally," Yu Lin collected his smile, his gaze calm as he looked at Loki, also sweeping over the divine realm where he'd briefly lingered, finally resting his sight on Shi Koudi, and spoke softly:

"Shi Koudi, I'm giving you my house."

"Goodbye."

The moment his words fell, before Loki could react, Yu Lin's form began to blur and turn transparent, like foam in sunlight, transforming into specks of crystalline light that silently dissipated into Asgard's air, leaving not a trace.

Loki's pupils contracted slightly; he instinctively stepped forward, reaching out, but his hand caught only a strand of swiftly scattering light dust.

He froze in place, staring at the empty spot where Yu Lin had stood, as if he could still see that guy with his nonchalant smile.

An indescribable emotion surged in his chest—annoyance, the stifled feeling of being toyed with, perhaps a sense of emptiness.

He has few friends, or rather, few who are willing to believe him.

The one willing to help him is Yu Lin.

But this guy actually deceived him—really................

The surrounding air fell dead silent for a moment, then some irrepressible, faint chuckles came from all directions.

Those gods of Asgard, originally still shaken or glaring angrily, after experiencing this heaven-shaking farce, saw the God of Schemes Loki being toyed with in such a simple manner.

Laughter inevitably burst forth.

Loki abruptly raised his head, letting out a long howl toward the sky in the direction Yu Lin vanished, echoing throughout Asgard:

"Yu Lin——!"

"You wait for me!"

"This is an apple."

"An apple?"

"Yu Lin, you think I'm stupid? This isn't an orange?"

Su Qu looked at the orange in Yu Lin's hand, speechless, raised a hand to point at himself, with an expression saying "Do you think I'm an idiot?"

Yu Lin gave a slight smile, light flashing in his eyes.

Deep in his eyes, a strand of strange light quietly flowed, like an undercurrent vortex beneath a calm lake, profound and elusive.

That faint light was exactly caught by Su Qu as he lifted his head.

In an instant, Su Qu's expression froze for a moment; though his overall speechless demeanor remained, a flicker of extreme bewilderment flashed in the depths of his eyes, so brief it seemed like an illusion.

He blinked instinctively, and when he looked again at the orange in Yu Lin's hand, the orange-yellow "orange" in his vision definitely turned into a red, juicy, full "apple."

"Eh? How weird." Su Qu rubbed his eyes dubiously, leaned in, and stared at the "apple":

"Really an apple? When did you switch it? Your technique is so fast."

Yu Lin then handed over the "apple" in his hand, wearing a sincere, harmless smile.

"I didn't switch it; it's always been an apple. Could I lie to you? We're good buddies, right?"

His tone was calm, carrying an undeniable certainty that left no room for doubt.

Su Qu's doubts instantly dissipated by half; he took the "apple" and nodded.

"True, you'd have no reason to trick me with an orange calling it an apple."

He weighed it, the feel seemed normal, so he habitually brought it to his mouth and took a bite.

"Crack!"

A crisp sound unlike that of an orange rang out.

Su Qu chewed a few times, his face showing surprise: "Hey, what variety of apple is this?"

"Why does it taste a bit like orange? Sweet and sour…… but it's still quite tasty."

Yu Lin watched Su Qu happily eating that orange which, in his perception and taste, was hardly different from an "apple",

In his mind, he gained a clearer understanding of the effect of the Falsehood trait.

He kept a straight face, casually saying, "I don't know, I just grabbed it on the road."

Su Qu, hearing him say he didn't know, didn't ask further, and in a few bites finished the orange-flavored "apple", wiped his mouth, and stood up.

"All right, taste is good. I've got a mission to attend to; call me if anything comes up."

He paused, seeming to think of something, gave a self-deprecating chuckle: "Well, although if there's anything you can't handle with your current strength, I guess I could still be of some help."

"But it's fine, don't worry about whether you can solve it—just give me a call anyway!"

"I'm off."

"Mm, stay safe."

As his words fell, Su Qu's figure did not head toward the door; instead, like merging into shadow, he silently sank into his own shadow beneath his feet.

Yu Lin then rubbed his chin, murmuring softly: "There's still a hint of orange flavor… does that mean he actually still harbors some doubt?"

"If he were utterly convinced, this orange would completely become an apple in his perception?"

"Calling a deer a horse—if everyone believes it, then it truly becomes a horse?"

"The Falsehood trait is pretty powerful."
