Chapter 270: Using Super Wisdom
Three years later, at noon.
Today is Dong Yong's birthday.
Early in the morning, Dong Yong went out to sell the cloth he had woven recently, while the Seventh Fairy Maiden stayed at home, beginning to prepare a special surprise for him.
She wanted to weave a piece of clothing.
Not ordinary mortal cloth, but a true fairy robe.
A few days ago, she had asked Yu Lin to secretly visit her palace in the Heavenly Court and retrieve the treasured fairy silk.
These fairy silks shone with brilliant colors, containing pure immortal spirit.
She also used the Jade Plaque given by Yu Lin to accumulate some mana day and night; though far from her peak, it was enough to sustain her for an hour to weave this fairy robe.
Inside the house, the seven-colored fairy silk floated in midair, flowing on its own, emitting a soft yet brilliant five-colored radiance that illuminated the humble wooden house like a fairyland, splendid and magnificent, unlike any mortal sight.
Just then, a tender, clear child's voice sounded at the doorway:
"Mommy, what are you doing?"
A roughly three-year-old, fair and chubby, tiger-headed and tiger-brained little boy, clung to the doorframe, curiously peeking his head inside.
This child is the son of Dong Yong and the Seventh Fairy Maiden; because a white crane landed at the door when he was born, he was named Dong He.
Dong He was instantly drawn to the shining fairy silk; his big eyes lit up at once, and he exclaimed in genuine admiration:
"Wow—! So pretty!"
He chubby little hand, still with some dirt from playing outside, reached out to touch the incredibly tempting light-thread.
Although the Seventh Fairy Maiden knew the fairy silk was not ordinary dust and would not be easily dirtied, she still gently pulled her son's small hand and softly said:
"He'er, first go wash your hands clean."
She looked at her son's longing gaze and promised:
"If you like it, in a few days Mommy will also weave you a little cape, okay?"
Upon hearing this, Dong He immediately forgot about wanting to touch the fairy silk, nodding his little head like a chick pecking at grain:
"Good! Mommy is the best!"
The Seventh Fairy Maiden affectionately rubbed his little head: "Good boy, hurry and wash your hands."
"When you're done washing, help Mommy by keeping watch at the door; if you see Daddy come back, run and tell Mommy right away."
She lowered her voice, with a hint of mystery,
"When the time comes, we'll together give Daddy a surprise, okay?"
"Oh! Give Daddy a surprise!" Dong He felt this task was very important, immediately puffed out his little chest, gave a loud reply, turned and ran to wash his hands.
…………
As evening approached, the setting sun dyed the horizon orange-red.
Dong Yong's figure appeared at the village entrance, holding a bamboo basket covered with cloth, from which a tempting aroma faintly emanated, seeming to be roasted chicken or similar cooked food.
"Qimei! Xiao He! I'm back!" He was in high spirits; his voice arrived before he did.
However, the courtyard was silent, with no one answering.
Just as he wondered, he saw his son Dong He dart out like a small cannonball from the side; upon seeing him, the boy's eyes lit up, but he said nothing, then turned and darted back into the house—his demeanor clearly hiding some secret.
Dong Yong chuckled, feeling curious, and unconsciously quickened his steps.
As he just stepped inside the house, everything went black—a pair of warm, delicate hands reached from behind and gently covered his eyes.
No need to guess; he also knew it was the Seventh Fairy Maiden.
He lifted the corners of his mouth in a happy smile and asked:
"Qimei, what are you doing? So mysterious."
The Seventh Fairy Maiden did not answer, merely leading him slowly toward the inner room, her voice filled with joy and anticipation:
"Don't ask yet; you'll know soon."
As they walked into the inner room, the Seventh Fairy Maiden released her hold.
In an instant, a robe emitting soft immortal light, flowing with seven-colored halos, ancient yet magnificent in style, came into Dong Yong's view.
The robe seemed woven from starlight, tailored from clouds and rosy mist, hovering there silently, unstained by dust, transcendent and unworldly.
Dong Yong was utterly stunned, opened his mouth, gazing at this fairy robe that no mortal could possess, and for a moment did not know what to say:
"This… this is…"
The Seventh Fairy Maiden walked to his side, looking at his astonished expression, her face breaking into a satisfied and gentle smile:
"A birthday gift for you."
"I wove it with fairy silk; do you like it, my lord?"
Dong Yong gazed at his wife's gentle smile, then at the fairy robe that embodied her feelings and extraordinary skill; his heart surged hot, an indescribable feeling of emotion and sourness rising in his nose.
He tightly pressed his lips, his eye sockets involuntarily reddening.
He took a deep breath, trying to calm his emotions, his voice carrying a barely perceptible choke:
"I like it… how could I not… just, you've worked hard, my wife…"
He felt a bit embarrassed, turned his face away, and quickly wiped the corner of his eye with the back of his hand,
"Look at me… really… letting my wife see a joke."
He turned his head back, gazing intently at the Seventh Fairy Maiden, and said earnestly:
"However, compared to this fairy robe, I like and cherish even more you yourself, my wife."
Speaking, he suddenly seemed to recall something, and with one motion shoved the basket he was holding into the arms of little Dong He, who stood nearby with an upturned face, curiously watching his parents' interaction.
Then he gently pushed the child toward the doorway, and with the same motion closed the room door, speaking to his son through the door:
"Xiao He, eat the roasted chicken and biscuits in the basket yourself first; Dad and Mom… have some important matters to attend to."
Dong He, shut out behind the door: "……"
He held the basket, blinked his big eyes blankly, looked at the tightly closed door, scratched his head, and completely didn't understand what "important matter" his parents had that required them to shut the door.
However, the rich food aroma coming from the basket quickly caught all his attention.
He twitched his little nose, decided not to think about his parents' "secret" for now, sat on a nearby small stool with the basket, and began to eat heartily.
Really delicious!
"Having grown accustomed to thunder and rain, life and death, I was as unmoving as Mount Tai before its collapse, but upon seeing a warm, healing scene, I felt uneasy all over, as if I ought to do something."
"Yes, I'm talking about me."
Yu Lin stood at the Jade Emperor's side, adding the final line to the saying 'no silver here, three hundred taels'.
Jade Emperor: "........."
"Heaven's rules must not be broken; I am no exception."
Yu Lin shrugged: "You certainly aren't."
"You are heaven; the rules you set are heaven's rules."
Jade Emperor: ".......... I won't talk to you anymore."
"The Human World tomorrow, I will take Xiao Qi back; can you stop me?"
Yu Lin shook his head, grinning: "Am I the kind of person who would break the rules?"
"Just relax."
"If you want to take him, go ahead and relax; besides, I can't beat you now anyway."
The Jade Emperor heard this and gave a slight smile: "Your cultivation is inferior to mine; right now I could suppress you with a flip of the hand."
"But with all your divine abilities and talents supporting you........ I can't do anything about you either."
"Since you won't act, I'll just treat it as watching a show."
He stopped talking further and walked into the palace.
The corner of Yu Lin's mouth rose a bit more, and he thought to himself:
"I have plenty of ways to break this situation."
"Super wisdom!"
I'll take a day off tomorrow.
