Chapter 283: My Specialty Is Fists

~6 min read 1,168 words

The next day, early morning.

The morning mist in the forest had just lifted, golden sunlight streamed through the gaps in the leaves, the temperature was just right, bringing a comfortable warmth without feeling scorching.

Arthur sat upright on the rough wooden chair inside, his small frame straight, his gaze occasionally drifting toward the window.

Outside the door, a group of his little companions were chattering, calling for him.

"Arthur! Arthur! Come out quickly! We're going to the creek to catch fish today!"

"Yeah, Arthur, we found a bird's nest!"

"Arthur, I made a beautiful flower wreath for you!"

Arthur looked at his companions' excited faces, forced down the urge to go out, shook his head, and wore a sincere apology on his face:

"Sorry, I can't go out with you today."

"Grandpa Merlin said he hired a teacher for me, and today he'll start teaching me how to become a warrior; I have to stay home and wait for the teacher."

To Arthur's surprise, the companions, upon hearing the news, did not show disappointment; instead each eyes lit up, their excitement surpassing his.

"Wow! Warrior! Arthur, you're becoming a warrior!"

"That's awesome! My father said only the bravest can become warriors!"

"Arthur will surely become an outstanding hero in the future!"

"Yeah, yeah! When that time comes, you have to protect us!"

They chattered, their little faces full of admiration and yearning, as if they already saw Arthur clad in armor, brandishing a sharp sword.

The children's clamor filled the tiny courtyard.

At that moment, a voice with a hint of laziness and amusement came from beside them, clearly reaching each child's ear:

"Oi, little brats, what are you crowding at the doorway for? You're blocking my way."

The voice seemed to carry a certain magic; the noisy clamor instantly fell silent.

The children all froze, then simultaneously looked toward the direction of the voice.

On the village path, a person rode a remarkably strange "steed" at a leisurely pace.

The "horse" was entirely covered with fine, scale armor that shimmered with soft Golden Light under the sun, not fur; short, jade‑like horns sprouted from its head, its posture elegant and noble (actually a kirin).

Sitting atop this divine steed was a young man clad in fitted leather armor, a plain Sword Sheath at his waist, and a long sword that faintly glowed with a crimson sheen.

He had black hair and black eyes, a handsome, sharply defined face unlike the locals, a bright smile at the corner of his lips, and every movement exuded damn charisma, as if born to be the center of attention.

The children had never seen anyone with such a peculiar appearance, nor anyone so... good‑looking and full of spirit.

They almost immediately were convinced—this must be the warrior teacher that Grandpa Merlin hired for Arthur!

Yu Lin rode the kirin to the front of the house, deftly flipped off the kirin.

He looked at the wide‑eyed, curious, slightly shy children, his smile deepening, and casually pulled a handful of fruit hard candy from a pocket inside his leather armor, stuffing it into the hand of the child nearest him.

"Take it, share it with everyone."

He ruffled the child's hair and said, "Go over there and wait quietly; Arthur and I have something important to do."

The children, seeing the colorful candy they'd never seen before and hearing that there was something to eat, cheered, scattered, ran to the shade of a nearby tree, and began to carefully share the candy.

While eating, they watched Yu Lin and the wondrous golden "horse" with bright, curious eyes.

A few bold children, after finishing the candy, became very interested in the kirin and tiptoed to try touching its shimmering scales.

The kirin had no objection, merely flicked its tail—also covered with fine golden scales—casually, producing a faint rustle.

That small motion startled the children, who let out a "Wow" and immediately pulled their hands back, thudding back to their group, no longer daring to approach, only watching from afar.

Yu Lin ignored the children's little incident, gently patted the kirin's neck, signaling it to wait, then strode into the modest Wooden House.

The light seemed to brighten a few degrees as he entered.

Arthur, who had been waiting inside, instantly rose from the chair, his small frame straight, bowed respectfully toward Yu Lin, his voice crisp and unmistakably nervous and eager:

"Teacher."

Yu Lin gave a slight nod in response.

His gaze fell on Arthur, meeting the eyes of this future king, who now still wore a face of innocence and bewilderment.

He didn't begin teaching immediately, but posed a seemingly simple question that could have far‑reaching impact:

"Arthur, tell me, what do you want to be when you grow up?"

"Do what?" The sudden question left Arthur stunned.

Usually he only thought about where to play today, what to eat tomorrow, at most imagining himself as one of the brave warriors from Grandpa Merlin's stories.

But being formally asked about his future ambition, he was momentarily at a loss.

His tiny brows furrowed, a look of conflict and serious contemplation appearing on his face.

Become a farmer like the others in the village? Till the fields daily? Or be a livestock keeper, tending cattle and sheep? It seemed... none of those were his true inner desire.

Then, like the teacher Grandpa Merlin hired, become a powerful warrior? Or be a hunter who can roam the forest freely and support his family?

His thoughts tangled; finally he shook his head dejectedly and honestly said, "I... I don't know."

"Maybe... to be a warrior who can protect the village from beasts and bandits, or... a very skilled hunting hunter."

Yu Lin listened quietly to his answer, offering neither praise nor rejection, his face revealing no particular emotion.

He simply followed with another question:

"Then, today, what do you want to learn from me?"

This time Arthur hesitated not at all; his eyes burned as he looked at the crimson long sword at Yu Lin's waist, his tone decisive and firm:

"Learn swordsmanship!"

"Oh?" Yu Lin raised an eyebrow, "Why swordsmanship?"

Arthur answered confidently, with childlike direct logic: "Because you carry a sword, teacher! So I think your swordsmanship must be the best!"

That answer made Yu Lin chuckle, he shook his head and said, "Well, my specialty is using fists."

Arthur: "……"

Looking at his expression, Yu Lin smiled, then changed the subject:

"However, for you, learning swordsmanship is indeed the most suitable path."

He said no more, turned and walked out of the house, leaving only one line:

"Come on, follow me."

Arthur heard this, the loss in his eyes was instantly replaced by renewed excitement, and he quickly replied "Yes!".

【67> He lifted his legs, quickly stepped up to follow Yu Lin's back, heading toward the sunlit open space outside.

He swung his calves, quick-stepped to catch up to Yu Lin's back, and walked toward the sun-drenched open space outside the house.
