Chapter 380: Someone Will Die Tonight

~8 min read 1,476 words

"Man Er, go knock on the door."

In the pouring rain, the elder turned his head; rain streamed down the gray‑white tips of his hair and the hollows of his cheeks, and his gaze in the darkness was like two cold ghostly flames.

He whispered instructions to Man Er, who stood beside him, and simultaneously signaled with his eyes toward the side room ahead that was lit by a faint firelight.

"Remember," the elder's voice was pressed low, almost drowned by the rain, yet very clear:

"You must act very angry. Your wife was humiliated by them, and you are now here to settle the score. Don't let them detect any flaw."

He paused, his gaze sweeping over the villagers hidden behind the rain curtain and shadows behind Man Er, and continued the plan: "Then… under the pretense of an apology, find a way to bring him out alone first."

"As long as you bring one out, the remaining one will be easy to deal with. Understand?"

Man Er hurriedly nodded, his face a mix of nervousness and the excitement of imminent success, and he didn't even notice the rain striking his face:

"Got it, got it! Village Chief, rest assured! I will definitely trick him out!"

The elder gave a slight nod, said no more, simply tightened his grip on the Long Sword, stepped back one pace, fully merged into the shadow beneath the eaves, his gaze fixed rigidly on the door.

The group held their breath, watching Man Er take a deep breath, adjust his facial expression, then stride quickly through the rain toward the side room.

Bang! Bang! Bang!

The knocking was urgent and fierce, brimming with unabashed anger, even drowning out part of the rain.

"Open the door! Open it for me!" Man Er's voice came through the door panel, filled with suppressed fury.

Inside, Luoer had already been on guard thanks to Yu Lin's warning.

He didn't open the door immediately, but silently slipped to the crack and peered outward.

In the dimness, only Man Er could be seen standing outside, drenched, and seemingly holding no obvious weapon.

Luoer's doubts deepened, yet he opened the door, deliberately showing a hint of surprise and confusion on his face:

"Brother Man Er? In such heavy rain, how did you get here? Why do you look so angry?"

As the door opened a crack, Man Er lunged, reaching to grab Luoer's collar; his facial muscles twisted with anger, rain dripping down his chin: "Who is your brother?!"

He growled low, his voice hoarse: "What did you just do to my wife?! How dare you humiliate her like that?! Aren't you even a man?!"

His performance was truly committed, his eyes bloodshot, his chest heaving violently, as if genuinely enraged.

While roaring, he reached out again, trying to seize Luoer's arm and forcefully drag him out the door:

"Come with me! Go apologize to her right now! Otherwise, this isn't over between us!"

Luoer's gaze hardened, his body instinctively recoiling, ready to refuse or even counterattack.

However, at that instant, Yu Lin's voice sounded beside his ear:

"Luoer, go with him."

Luoer froze, then turned his head and glanced swiftly at Yu Lin.

In the firelight, Yu Lin's expression was calm and unruffled, and he gave a slight nod to him.

Confusion surged in Luoer like a tide, yet his instinctive trust in Yu Lin forced him to suppress all doubts and the urge to resist.

In that brief moment of distraction and hesitation, Man Er's hand had already gripped Luoer's wrist tightly, feeling wet and cold.

"Move!" Man Er said without hesitation, pulling Luoer into the rain, his strength astonishing, as if truly driven by anger.

Luoer followed him, still shouting: "Man Er! Calm down! It's pouring rain! Even if you go, take something to shield yourself from the rain!"

Man Er ignored him completely, simply dragging him forward, his steps hurried, as if his mind was blinded by fury, wanting to resolve the matter immediately.

The icy rain instantly drenched both of them.

Being dragged all the way, they arrived at an open space beside a well in the village center.

Rainwater had pooled here into a small hollow, and stepping into it splashed muddy droplets.

Luoer forcefully shook off Man Er's hand, raised his hand to wipe the cold rain from his face, his gaze scanning the surrounding dark corners, and asked with a raised eyebrow:

"Man Er, where is your wife? Weren't you asking me to apologize?"

Man Er gave no answer.

He simply stepped back a few paces; the angry expression on his face fell away like a mask, replaced by a mix of greed, cruelty, and a finally unhidden triumph.

"You'll see soon enough."

He grinned, showing rain‑soaked teeth, then abruptly turned and ran toward the shadow of a half‑collapsed shed not far away.

Almost as he fled—

Crack!

A stark white lightning bolt tore the night sky, illuminating the world in a bleak glare!

In that fleeting Thunder Light, Luoer clearly saw one silent silhouette after another, like ghosts crawling from the earth, slowly emerging from the shadows of nearby houses, beside firewood stacks, and along broken walls...

They bore various weapons in their hands—Long Swords, hatchets, sharpened wooden staffs, bows and arrows.

Rain ran down their expressionless or fierce cheeks, and in the lightning's glow their eyes reflected a greedy, icy light.

At the front stood the white‑haired elder.

He stepped forward, the Long Sword in his hand glinting a cold sheen in the rain, its tip raised, pointing straight at Luoer, who stood alone in the center of the clearing.

Thunder rumbled overhead, and the elder's voice, though low, pierced the rain and entered Luoer's ear clearly:

"Tonight, someone will die."

Listening to his words, Luoer smiled.

He drew two short daggers from his waist and continued the elder's words:

"But it won't be me."

The moment the words fell—

Boom!

Another blinding lightning bolt tore the heavens, lighting the whole village as bright as day!

Almost in sync with the lightning, Luoer's figure, like a phantom, suddenly blurred and vanished on the spot!

"Ah—!"

A short, shrill scream suddenly exploded in the rain curtain, its position unexpectedly on the outer edge of the crowd to the old man's left!

Everyone turned their heads in shock!

Only a Black Shadow flashed past like a whirlwind and then vanished, leaving a villager clutching his bleeding neck, eyes wide, face still etched with disbelief, falling backward stiffly and splashing a pool of murky water.

The rain quickly diluted and spread the bloodstain spreading beneath him.

Fast! Too fast!

So fast that many couldn't see how he passed by or how he struck!

The old man's expression changed, like an old wolf locking onto its prey.

A flash of lightning flickered in his eyes and then vanished, causing hardly any ripple.

His tone remained indifferent, as if the one who died was not his comrade but merely an insignificant insect:

He has some skill.

He paused, then the wrist holding his sword made an extremely slight adjustment in angle.

But, it's still not enough.

After uttering those three words, he moved.

Without any earth-shaking momentum, he simply swung the Long Sword in his hand casually toward Luoer's current position.

The blade's trajectory through the rain was unusually clear, yet it carried an eerie sense of slowness.

Hum—

A low vibration, almost inaudible, centered on the blade, instantly spread outward!

The next second, within several meters around Luoer, a sudden aberration occurred!

Those originally vertical, densely packed rain lines seemed to hit an invisible barrier, as if wiped away instantly by an invisible giant hand!

Centering on Luoer, there appeared a short-lived, eerie sphere with no raindrops—a 'vacuum' sphere!

Rain poured down wildly outside this spherical region, splashing loudly, while inside it was a stark, heart‑pounding dryness and dead silence—only Luoer's heavy breathing and the wet, slippery ground beneath his feet proved that a downpour had just occurred.

But this silence lasted less than a heartbeat.

Immediately—

That cleared 'vacuum' area was suddenly filled with another kind of 'rain'!

It was not water, but countless barely visible strands, as fine as cow hair, flashing with a chilling metallic gleam—Blade Aura!

They seemed alive, coming from all directions—up, down, left, right—penetrating every gap, madly stabbing and slicing toward Luoer at the center!

Each strand of Blade Aura was razor‑sharp, cutting the air with a sharp, dense hiss that made one's teeth ache, like countless snakes flicking their tongues simultaneously!

This was not rain, but a death storm forged from pure killing intent and sharp qi!

To utterly crush and shred everything trapped within—whether flesh or bone—until it turns to fine powder!

Luoer merely watched, taking a deep breath:

"Again I've been underestimated—looks like I really need to get serious this time."
