Chapter 407: Supreme Buddha Law
"Tathagata Buddha, what business do you have with me, a little Demon?"
Inside a yakitori shop.
Feimeng watched Xuanhai, who was putting a grilled skewer into his mouth and savoring it—uh, actually the Tathagata Buddha— with a hint of curiosity:
"Aren't members of the Buddhist Sect forbidden from eating meat?"
"Eh, not so." The Tathagata Buddha swallowed the skewer, tossed the stick into a nearby trash can, and smiled lightly: "As the saying goes, wine and meat pass through the gut, but the Buddha remains in the heart."
"I am the Buddha myself; eating a bit does no harm."
"Alright, you are the Buddha, you are right." Feimeng merely nodded in acknowledgment; the nervousness he felt was swept away by those words, and he relaxed considerably.
Back then, when he went to Ling Shan, he didn't know the Tathagata Buddha's identity, so he wasn't nervous; after leaving Ling Shan, he made a few inquiries...........
He could only be grateful that the Buddha and those bodhisattvas and arhats hadn't yet enlightened him—consider it good luck!
He didn't let him say more.
He then heard the Tathagata Buddha say, "There are indeed some matters for you."
Feimeng, upon hearing that, immediately pounded his chest and said:
"Buddha, go ahead and tell me; whatever I can do, I will do my utmost!"
"I have a copy of the 'Supreme Buddha Law'; tomorrow you will give it to Yu Lin and tell him.............. understood?"
"Understood, understood. But this won't be harmful to Uncle, right? If it is, I can't agree to it."
"No need to worry; as long as you let him glance at this scripture, he will naturally know what to do."
"Alright."
Feimeng reached out, took the 'Supreme Buddha Law' from the Tathagata Buddha's hand, and thought to himself that the thoughts of such high‑rank beings were truly baffling; what were they plotting this time?
Or perhaps they simply wanted to give Yu Lin something to do?
After all, given their power... Feimeng didn't think any being could threaten them!
Fine, he'll just follow the orders.
The Tathagata Buddha, seeing him accept the scripture, a smile flickered in his eyes as he rose and said:
"Since that's the case, I won't disturb you further."
"When you have time, come to Ling Shan for a visit; I'll teach you some other techniques."
As the words fell, in Feimeng's perception the vast aura surrounding Xuanhai vanished instantly.
Immediately after, Xuanhai's gaze became hazy, then clear, then startled:
"Hm?! Where am I?! What have you done to me?!"
"........." Feimeng, covering his chest, looked as if afraid of being taken advantage of, and said wordlessly:
"Hey, hey, calm down."
"I'm not interested in doing anything to you; it's just that you Buddhists... uh, anyway, it's none of your business, you may go."
He thought for a moment, but still didn't mention the matter of the Buddha possessing his body.
With a wave of his hand, Xuanhai vanished instantly.
The diners inside the shop were like blind and deaf people, completely unaware of what had happened, each busy with their own affairs.
Until Feimeng waved at a waiter and said:
"Check, please."
"Hold on, I'm coming right away.........."
"If you have something, just say it directly; you look so guilty."
The next morning, in the Quiet Chamber specially prepared inside the shrine, Yu Lin was leisurely enjoying the breakfast that Feimeng had meticulously prepared.
Opposite him, Feimeng was also seated but was utterly restless, shifting his hips on the chair, his gaze drifting, his half‑spoken demeanor practically spelling out 'I have something to say.'
Yu Lin calmly swallowed his food, lifted his tea cup for a sip, then looked up at Feimeng and directly called out his unease.
Hearing that, Feimeng immediately let out an awkward chuckle, scratched his head and said, "Well... hehe, Uncle, your eyes are really sharp."
He no longer hesitated, carefully taking out a rather ancient-looking volume whose cover was neither leather nor paper but radiated a faint gold‑white aura; he held it with both hands and respectfully presented it to Yu Lin.
"Uncle, please take a look at this first."
Yu Lin set down his tea cup, his gaze falling on the booklet.
The cover bore four bold characters—'Supreme Buddha Law'.
At the sight of the name, his eyebrows twitched slightly, a clear surprise flashing in his eyes.
"Hm?" Yu Lin didn't reach for it immediately, but looked at Feimeng, his tone inquisitive,
"Where did you get this 'Supreme Buddha Law' from?"
Feimeng hurriedly explained, recounting in detail the bizarre incident that occurred last night at the yakitori shop:
"Yesterday after your rest, I intended to go for a walk, but on the street I ran into that monk Xuanhai again."
"However, at that time the one controlling his body was no longer himself, but the manifestation of the Tathagata Buddha from Western Ling Shan!"
"The Buddha used Xuanhai's body to find me, personally handed me this scripture, and said... to pass it on to you, Uncle."
"He said that once you see this scripture, you will naturally know what to do."
He paused, then added, "I verified that the Buddha said this wouldn't harm you, so I dared to accept it."
After hearing Feimeng's explanation, Yu Lin was silent for a moment, then tugged at the corner of his mouth with a hint of helplessness.
Well, over here Lao Jun just slipped a 'Mahayana Dao Method' into him to cause trouble in the Journey to the West, and over there the Buddha tossed a 'Supreme Buddha Law'...
Then ask Lao Jun how to deal with it.
"Understood." Yu Lin said little else, merely nodding, reaching out to take the 'Supreme Buddha Law' from Feimeng.
Seeing Yu Lin simply accept the scripture and say "Understood" without further comment, Feimeng's curiosity, like a cat's paw, was impossible to suppress.
He leaned in, using a voice only the two of them could hear, and whispered, "Uncle, may I be so bold as to ask...?"
"What good is this?"
Yu Lin glanced at him, gave no detailed explanation, and casually retorted with a question:
"Do you still remember the Mahayana Dao Method you read yesterday?"
He didn't say any more on the subject.
But Feimeng isn't a fool.
Yu Lin's words already revealed enough information!
Putting those two scriptures together makes the intention crystal clear! It's the big shots of the Dao and Buddha sides vying with each other!
As for their goal, that's beyond what this little Prince of Devils can guess.
Better to act as if you know nothing!
"Alright."
Yu Lin clearly didn't want to continue the topic; he wiped his mouth with a napkin and stood up:
"The breakfast was good. Now, take me to Gaotianyuan for a look."
Feimeng immediately steadied his mind, suppressed the swirling thoughts, and hurriedly stood up:
"Yes!"
Supplement: Tathagata is actually one of the Buddha's ten titles (Tathagata, Yingshou, Zhengbianzhi, Mingxingzu, Shansui, Shijianjie, Wushangshi, Tiaoyu Husband, Tianren Master, Buddha, Shizun); any Buddha may be called Tathagata.
For example, Medicine Buddha Lapis Light Tathagata, Burning Lamp Tathagata; because "Buddha" is also one of the ten titles, when mentioning Tathagata one usually does not add the Buddha name.
