Chapter 503: Perhaps There Are Two Me

~6 min read 1,190 words

Comfortable.

After disciplining Jesus, Yu Lin let out a long breath, feeling body and mind at ease.

What? You say this ruins the Holy Bible's original plot where Jesus debates with the Scripture Masters in the Temple, his parents come looking for him, and he retorts, "Do you not know that I must consider my Father's affairs?"

That's not something they can decide.

Since the moment he seized Jesus's corpse.

How the Holy Bible is written, or rather, everything changes because of him.

History, from the moment he intervened, has acquired new possibilities.

Seeing Jesus still sobbing plaintively, tears about to fall, Yu Lin casually handed over a few soft sheets of paper:

"Alright, why are you crying? Wipe it away."

"As for you," his gaze swept over the kneeling Temple members ahead:

"You may leave now."

"Yes, yes, you're busy, you're busy."

The crowd, as if granted a pardon, bowed repeatedly and almost jogged away swiftly.

Soon, the once bustling Piandian emptied, leaving only Yu Lin and a few others.

You ask why these usually proud priests and Scripture Masters, who regard the Temple's authority as life, treat a "madman" with such reverence, even daring not a single word of defense or doubt?

Very simple.

Just now, when a few of the most agitated senior Scripture Masters ordered the guards forward, and someone even attempted to invoke binding prayers,

Yu Lin merely lifted his eyes and casually waved toward the void above the temple ceiling.

No incantation, no dazzling light.

But in that instant, everyone with spiritual perception "saw" it.

The Temple's solid dome became transparent, and immediately, Heaven's Gate appeared before their eyes.

Then the great gate opened slowly.

Just a glimpse, and the scene inside made them involuntarily kneel; all hostility and anger were instantly washed away, leaving only primal awe and submission!

Jesus's safety?

Before a being who can casually open Heaven's Gate, that exceptionally clever child now indeed seems… not so "important" anymore.

After all, Jesus's identity hasn't been revealed to them yet.

Which is lighter or heavier, they instantly knew the answer in their hearts.

Jesus was still lying on the ground, his butt swollen and burning painfully, preventing him from daring to sit.

He took the rough paper Yu Lin handed him, haphazardly wiped the tear stains and snot from his face, then lifted his head, his eyes reddened as he looked at Yu Lin, his voice thick with grievance:

"Yu Lin… what exactly did I do wrong?"

Yu Lin didn't answer immediately, but turned his head aside and waved toward Yuese and Mary, still standing at the doorway, their expressions complicated and indecisive.

Yuese's lips moved as if to ask something, but Mary stepped forward first.

She looked at Jesus, her tone still carrying a hint of reproach: "Jesus, why didn't you tell us and just stayed here on your own?"

"Do you know we searched for you for three whole days! We thought… we thought something had happened to you!"

By the end, her voice became a little choked.

Jesus heard this, his face showing confusion, even a hint of "you don't understand at all," and replied as if it were obvious:

"Because my Father wants me here."

He paused, seeming to think the explanation was sufficient:

"Why did you look for me? You could have gone straight back to Nazareth.............."

"Because we are also your parents."

Yuese, who had been silent, suddenly spoke.

Although not biological, over a decade of daily companionship and careful upbringing had etched that father‑son bond deep into his marrow.

He looked at Jesus, his gaze full of anguish.

Jesus's words abruptly halted.

He froze, looked up, his eyes meeting Yuese's directly.

Yuese's simple sentence, like a key, suddenly unlocked some long‑neglected memories deep within him.

It was Yuese's rough yet warm large hand, tightly holding him as he tottered; it was Yuese in the carpenter's workshop, patiently teaching him to identify each type of wood, how to use a plane and chisel.............

And Mary's meticulous care, the gentle lullaby at night, the silhouette under the lamp as she mended his clothes, her soft comfort when he was confused…

These scenes, so vivid, carrying the scent of mortal life and the warmth of family, made his emotions, suppressed by Divinity, surge again.

He seemed... to understand something.

He understood why his earlier answer made his mother weep, and why his usually silent father interrupted him so passionately.

But he still didn't fully understand.

He didn't know why he had become like this.

He naturally felt that staying in the Temple to discuss theology was more important than following his parents home, even deeming their worries "unnecessary."

He just felt that he "should" do so, that he "needed" to do so.

Silence spread throughout the empty hall.

Jesus looked at the pain and love in Yuese's eyes, then at Mary's tearful gaze, and finally cast his puzzled stare toward Yu Lin.

He thought Yu Lin must know the reason.

"Yu Lin," he asked softly, with unprecedented bewilderment:

"What… is happening to me?"

Yu Lin spread his hands, his face wearing that "don't ask me, I don't know anything" expression:

"I don't know; you'll have to figure it out yourself."

He said no more, rose cleanly, slipped a glossy pill from his sleeve, flicked it with a finger, and the pill traced an arc, landing precisely in Jesus's hand.

"Alright, we should go. Take this; don't dawdle on the road."

Having said that, he no longer looked at anyone, turned and walked toward the outside of the Temple, his stride leisurely, as if he had done nothing moments before.

Just as if he were here on a tour.

Jesus looked at the pill in his palm, did not hesitate, tilted his head back and swallowed it.

A cool, gentle breath instantly spread from his throat, flowing to his limbs and bones; the burning, throbbing pain in his buttocks vanished in the blink of an eye, and he even felt his whole body lighten a bit.

He shifted a little, stood up, and walked to Yuese and Mary's side.

Yuese silently extended his hand, patted his shoulder, while Mary tightly grasped his hand.

Jesus felt the weight on his shoulder and the warmth from his palm; the high wall in his heart built by the Divine Awakening seemed to loosen a bit.

He silently followed his parents, stepping together toward the outside of the Temple.

In his mind, that question still swirled: What on earth has happened to me?

The four of them, in silence, walked out of the Jerusalem Temple, and out through the Holy City Gate, which remained noisy but was no longer relevant to them.

They set foot on the long dusty road back to Nazareth.

Yu Lin walked slightly ahead, his silhouette blurred in the dusk.

Jesus was sandwiched between his parents, head down, walking.

He let the memories and emotions belonging to the Human Son, and the increasingly clear self‑awareness and mission belonging to the Son of God, repeatedly clash and intertwine in his young heart.

"Perhaps there are two me inside my body."
