Side Story 6: East Meets West, I'm Going Down

"Everyone, look—there is Heaven."

Yu Lin stood at the front of the formation surrounded by auspicious clouds, looking much like a top‑notch tour guide; he raised his hand and pointed toward the vast realm ahead, suffused with gentle golden light and faint holy hymns.

"Those with wings flitting about are angels."

He paused, then pointed to four especially dazzling, unfathomable shafts of light deep within the golden glow:

"And those four—"

"First on the left, Michael, Vice Ruler of the Kingdom of Heaven, chief angel, wielding a divine sword—he can fight, he can bear, and he can also manage affairs."

"Second, Gabriel, messenger angel, Heaven's press spokesperson, the busiest of all—delivering good news, conveying decrees, interpreting dreams, sounding the horn to herald the end times; his duties are vast, and he is said to have a wonderful voice, the lead of the choir."

"Third, Lafeier. His name means 'God will heal'; he excels at travel protection and curing obscure ailments. Lao Jun, you should find this interesting," Yu Lin blinked at the Tai Shang Lao Jun behind him.

Lao Jun stroked his beard, his eyes already showing a hint of interest in "exchange and discussion."

Just right.

He has some pills.............

"Fourth, Wu Lie Er, whose name translates to 'Divine Light' or 'Divine Flame,' an angel of wisdom and warning."

After Yu Lin finished the introduction, he turned and glanced at the "tour group" behind him.

To be honest, he thought that the Jade Emperor, Lao Jun, and even the Four Sovereigns up there had probably already dealt with Heaven.

The world is that big; how could they truly not know what the neighbor looks like?

But at this moment, all the deities—including the Jade Emperor—wore perfectly measured smiles of novelty and first‑time curiosity, handling the etiquette of a first visit with flawless precision.

Alright, you act, I'll act too.

Yu Lin went with the flow, deciding to treat them all as first‑timers.

And before Heaven's Gate, the four great archangels had indeed lined up in advance, as if they had long foreseen the arrival of this cross‑realm "tour group."

Serene Holy Light spread from behind them, both a respect to the Gods of the Heavenly Court and a preservation of their own divine dignity.

Michael stepped forward first, a friendly smile blooming on his face.

His gaze first fell on Yu Lin, and he gave a slight nod:

"Welcome your arrival."

Then he turned to the Eastern Heavenly Emperor seated on a Nine Dragons carriage, whose aura was deep and unfathomable, as well as the elderly man with long white beard who seemed as old as the heavens and earth, and to the myriad divine lords and celestial officials across the sky, all offering solemn greetings:

"We also welcome all distinguished guests from afar; from Heaven above to below, it is our great honor."

Yu Lin waved his hand, his tone as relaxed as if greeting guests at his own doorstep:

"Why be polite? We're all old acquaintances—"

He paused, then added:

"Even if we're not familiar now, with frequent visits we'll become acquainted sooner or later."

"Go ahead and enter."

As he spoke, he already set off, striding briskly toward the open Heaven's Gate, his leisurely gait as if this sacred supreme realm were his own home.

Hmm… in that case, there's really no big problem.

Anyway, he's just coming and going at will.

Michael and the three other archangels exchanged glances, smiles in their eyes, said little, and stepped aside to show the way.

Thus, under the personal guidance of the four great archangels, the Gods of the Heavenly Court's "Heaven One‑Day Tour" officially began.

Golden light flowed, holy hymns swirled.

The angels, though casting curious glances at the massive "Eastern delegation," kept the formation orderly and dignified under the four leaders, fully displaying Heaven's order.

The celestial officials of the Heavenly Court moved calmly, some murmuring, some smiling and nodding; the two divine factions, at this moment, showed harmony.

Of course, having visited the neighbor's house, one cannot favor one side over the other.

Accompanied by Michael, the delegation made a side "visit" to Hell.

A atmosphere entirely different from Heaven.

Crimson scorched earth, a burning lake of fire, the air thick with the scent of sulfur.

Satan himself stepped forward to greet them.

When he stood opposite the Gods of the Heavenly Court, the scene was briefly delicate.

But soon, with Yu Lin's prompting.

Fengdu Emperor and the Ten Yanluo Judges of the Underworld, along with other underworld deities, began chatting with him.

The two sides talked from soul‑settlement cycles to sentence conversions, from the functional zones of Hell's eighteen layers to the duties of each Underworld hall; the conversation grew increasingly congenial, subtly reaching a prototype of cooperation that modern times would only later formalize.

When Satan saw the gods depart, his expression was calm, as if deep in thought.

Then each side dispersed, getting to know one another.

Over at Lafeier's side..................

Lao Jun grasped Lafeier's wrist, kind‑eyed and warm in tone, as if he had found a long‑lost scholarly confidant:

"I just heard you, fellow Daoist, have considerable research in healing?"

"What a coincidence, I too have some insights," he replied.

"Come, come, here are several pills I forged in my leisure—one can restore heaven, another can continue severed threads, and one just came out of the furnace; but worry not, I see your divine body is robust, it will be fine."

Lafeier stared at the few radiant pills in his palm, falling into a brief silence.

He lifted his eyes, meeting Lao Jun's gaze filled with "I, old man, am wholly sincere—can you bear to refuse?" and Yu Lin's encouraging look of "Don't worry, you won't die."

"…Thank you for the pills."

"I'll try them."

Seeing him swallow them, Lao Jun nodded with satisfaction, then led him aside, his hand now holding several more bottles of pills:

"These few bottles are also quite remarkable................."

On the other side.

The Jade Emperor, together with Michael, the Vice Ruler of the Kingdom of Heaven, began discussing methods of governance.

"I often contemplate one matter."

"The immortal gods of the Heavenly Court, whose lifespans are endless and ages long, may at first feel carefree, but after a thousand or ten thousand years, extreme stillness gives way to restless thoughts, and the mind cannot help being unsettled."

"There is always the thought of wanting to go down to the Human World, to walk and look around; releasing them might break the rules and disturb the mortal realm."

"I wonder how Heaven deals with this matter?"

Michael, hearing this, replied:

"The rebellious ones cannot remain before my Lord."

"Ordinary angels once walked with the Lord, but due to pride or confusion, they developed a greed for Authority, an excessive attachment to the mortal world, and even attempted to deviate from their appointed station."

"Thus they were cast out of Heaven, falling into that dark abyss."

"Consequently they became devils, together with the messenger of the original betrayer, awaiting the Great Sun's judgment."

"Those whose thoughts are impure yet not yet traitorous, the Lord dispatches to the four corners of the earth to carry out his commands: to proclaim messages, to guide the lost, to battle, or to guard."

"They remain on Heaven's register, yet for a long time are far from Heaven's glory, and through toil and mission, their loyalty is forged."

He paused briefly, then said:

"Every angel, from the day of creation, knows why they fight and why they exist."

The Jade Emperor listened quietly, gave a slight nod, and said softly:

"Punishment and dispatch go hand in hand; with fierce fire they refine the impure, and with mission they set their direction."

He shook his head, his tone tinged with a sigh, "It truly differs from my Heavenly Court; many immortal gods become immortal precisely for freedom."

"The two sides' situations differ; it seems we must treat them separately, not generalize."

Michael, hearing this, did not end the discussion there.

A smile appeared on his face:

"You are right; every realm has its own measure for its path."

"Everything we do—whether battling, serving, praising, watching, even those cast out of Heaven and all they once did... ultimately is for the same purpose."

His gaze became exceedingly gentle, full of emotion:

"It is to obtain the Lord's love."

"To be loved by Him, to know His love, to live in His love forever."

"That is our goal."

"The Lord first loved us, so we can love Him, and because of this, everything we do gains meaning."

"Perhaps your immortal gods also need a purpose."

"Not a mission, not a commandment, not even the duty itself—rather a goal that lets them, across endless ages, still feel 'worthwhile' and 'satisfied'."

The Jade Emperor, hearing this, nodded lightly:

"Indeed, I have long held this thought."

"Since that is so..."

They continued chatting.

The other deities also chatted.

When all the deities were chatting merrily,

Yu Lin, however, walked alone to a deserted observation deck at the edge of Heaven, lowered his gaze, and looked toward the distant yet familiar Human World beneath the layered seas of clouds.

He saw rivers farther away, older in time.

The glimmer of the Jordan River, the carpenter's shop in Nazareth, and John in the wilderness who had begun Preaching, with followers gradually gathering behind him.

And.

Jesus walking toward the Jordan River.

He withdrew his gaze, stood up, and clapped his hands.

The crisp applause, neither too light nor too heavy, reached the ears of every deity and angel present.

"All eyes, look at me in unison."

The deities fell silent, the angels glanced sideways, all raising their brows to look over.

Yu Lin, facing the gazes of the hall full of gods, Buddhas, and angels, grinned, revealing a radiant smile:

"I proclaim—"

He deliberately elongated his tone, building anticipation.

"I am descending now."

The deities were silent for a moment.

"Please cooperate, give me some face."

Cooperate.

Give him some face.

Then give him that.

In the Human World, the wind and sun were pleasant, everything as usual.

But in the next instant—

The heavens opened.

Yu Lin descended upon the Human World.
