Chapter 605: Do I Have to Swear an Oath Too?

~7 min read 1,243 words

After eating a meal at Lao Jun's place, Yu Lin also left the Heavenly Court.

After drifting through a period of idle time, the mission countdown reset to zero.

"Dragon Lord, are you sure you aren't going with me this time?"

"Not going, not going; the global competition is about to start, wait for us to bring back a championship!"

"Fine."

Yu Lin shrugged, didn't press the issue, whispered a word to enter, and a flash of WhiteLight flickered; he vanished.

【Myth: Twilight of the Gods】

【Mission: Rewrite the ending of the Gods in Twilight of the Gods, and help the Gods forge new Nine Realms】

【Reward: Creation Power】

Asgard, Golden Palace.

Sunlight poured down from the dome of Valhalla Hall, bathing every column in dazzling Golden Light.

The Rainbow Bridge shimmered in the distance, linking Asgard and the central courtyard; at its entrance, the guard Hai Mu Da Er clutched a horn, his gaze piercing the clouds, watching every corner of the Nine Realms.

This is the dwelling of the Gods, the eternal, radiant, undecaying Asgard.

At least, it looks that way.

Bader stood on the Golden Palace terrace, overlooking the divine land bathed in sunlight beneath his feet.

The God of Light stood as upright as a birch, golden hair fluttering gently in the wind, his face handsome to the point of unreality, his azure eyes reflecting the sea of clouds and distant mountains, always bearing a gentle, reassuring radiance.

He is the most beloved deity, the favorite of the Gods, the light of all beings.

Fu Li Jia loves him, Aoding is proud of him, even Thor, the rugged Thunder God, lowers his voice before him.

No one dislikes Bader, no one would harm Bader.

But lately, Bader has begun having nightmares.

Those dreams at first were only vague, shapeless shadows, like fish swimming beneath the water's surface, flashing by.

But gradually they sharpened, became real, like a knife that pierces his sleep night after night.

He dreamed he stood on a wasteland, surrounded by gray mist, with no light, no wind, no sound. He looked down at his hand, which was glowing; the light was bright yet could not pierce the fog.

Then something emerged from the mist, indistinct, only known to be approaching, getting closer and closer.

He turned to run, but the ground was swamp; mud clung to his ankles, preventing him from moving.

The thing caught up; he felt no pain, only cold—a chill seeping from the cracks of his bones, dragging him toward the abyss… the cold of death!

Afterwards.

He dreamed of the world's end.

He dreamed of wolves devouring the sun and the moon.

He dreamed of endless pain and death!

His dreams grew ever more terrifying…

Then he awoke, drenched in cold sweat, and the warm firelight of the Golden Palace could not dispel the chill!!!

Bader didn't know why, so.

A few days earlier, he told the matter to his mother—Aoding's wife, Fu Li Jia.

"Bader."

Fu Li Jia's voice came from behind.

Bader turned around.

His mother stood in the terrace's shadow, face pallid, faint dark circles under her eyes as if she hadn't slept for many days.

She looked at Bader, those beautiful eyes holding an expression he had never seen before.

Concern, heartache, or rather… fear!

"Mother, have you also been having nightmares?" Bader said.

Fu Li Jia said nothing, just walked over, stood beside him, and took his hand.

Her hand was cold, cold as winter well water.

"Child, I know what you have endured."

"I will go find your father," she said.

Aoding sat on his high throne, with two ravens, Hu Jin and Mu Ning, perched on his shoulder.

They had just flown back from the Nine Realms, whispering something in his ear.

Aoding listened, his complexion growing darker, the single eye reflecting the ravens' jet feathers and some deeper, indescribable shadow.

He saw, with the eye sacrificed for wisdom, he saw—flames devouring the Golden Palace, massive waves crushing the walls, corpses strewn everywhere, blood staining the earth.

The Gods perished in twilight, one after another, like leaves blown from trees in autumn.

And Bader, his son, the God of Light, stood at the forefront of all the corpses.

He was the first!

Aoding rose, told no one, mounted his eight‑legged divine horse Sleipnir, and headed for the Underworld.

The Underworld lies in Heerhaimu, beneath the deepest roots of the World Tree.

There is no light, no warmth, only eternal mist and a river that never freezes.

Aoding rode the horse through the gate that only the dead may pass, arriving before the tomb of the female Prophet Valvara.

He used Runic script to awaken her, casting a spell to make her speak.

"You have awakened the dead," Valvara's voice rose from the tomb, like wind through dry bones, like ice cracking on a river surface:

"What do you wish to know?"

"Sorry, I want to know Bader, his dream."

Silence.

A long silence.

Then Wa Er Wa La spoke, his voice lower and deeper than before, like water rising from the deepest underground.

"Bader will be killed,"

"The murderer is his own brother, Huo De Er."

Aoding's single eye snapped shut, and the veins in his hand gripping the reins bulged:

"How can we stop it?"

"It cannot be stopped." Wa Er Wa La's voice faded, "Twilight of the Gods is coming; this is destiny."

"Destiny can be changed."

"It can, but Bader's death is the beginning of the twilight; without it, there is no twilight." Her voice grew farther and softer: "Without twilight, there is no rebirth; without rebirth, is that what you wish to see?"

"............." Aoding gave no answer.

He rode his horse through the gate and returned to the sun‑lit Asgard.

He went to find Fu Li Jia.

After hearing the Prophecy, Fu Li Jia did not cry or shout; she simply sat quietly, like a stone statue.

"I will not let my son die."

Then she stood up, stepped out of the Golden Palace, out of Asgard, and walked to every corner of the Nine Realms.

She traversed the nine heavens and nine earths, from Asgard's heights to Vanaheim's deep seas, from Alfheim's forests to Svartalfheim's mines, from Midejierte's Human World to Jotunheim's wastelands.

She passed through flame and ice, through storm and deathly silence, across the boundary of life and death.

She beheld all things—fire, water, wind, earth, metal, trees, stone, disease, poison, beasts, birds, snakes and insects, running beasts.

She said to each of them, "Swear never to harm Bader in any way, swear never to let Bader bleed, never to let Bader fall, never to let Bader die."

All things swore.

Fire said, "I will not burn him"; Water said, "I will not drown him"; Wind said, "I will not blow him down"; Earth said, "I will not bury him"; Metal said, "I will not pierce him"................

All things swore.

And the Gods.

Fu Li Jia returned to Asgard, stood on the Golden Palace's terrace, and watched Bader strolling in the garden.

Sunlight fell on him, his golden hair glittering; those vows were like an invisible armor protecting him from head to toe, from skin to marrow.

No one could hurt him now, nothing could hurt him now.

Fu Li Jia felt she could finally get a good night's sleep..........

"Did I arrive just in time?"

"Do I also need to swear?"

Fu Li Jia: "..............."
