Chapter 643: A Gift for You
"Three hundred eight receives three hundred."
"Take care, okay."
"Hmm, it's paid."
Yu Lin scanned the code, then slipped his phone into his pocket.
He turned and walked to the roadside. Lao Jun was squatting on the curb, pinching a toothpick in his hand, picking his teeth.
The streetlamp shone on him, making his speckled white hair gleam.
He picked his teeth earnestly, the toothpick moving back and forth at the corner of his mouth, his cheek pouches puffing.
Yu Lin stood before him, bowing his head to look at him.
"Do you still get food stuck in your teeth?"
Lao Jun took the toothpick out of his mouth, glanced at it, and casually tossed it into the nearby trash can.
He stood up and patted the folds of his Daoist robe:
"My body is a mortal flesh, so naturally I get teeth stuck."
"In today's world, it cannot bear my descent to the mortal realm."
"Naturally, one must be a bit careful."
"Oh," Yu Lin nodded.
When the world was stable before, there wasn't much of that.
Now that this situation has arisen, if Lao Jun were to descend in his Heavenly Court body, he wouldn't need to do anything; merely standing there would cause the surrounding space to collapse.
Those worlds that evolved from Chaos, and those Dong Tian opened by immortals and deities, cannot endure it.
Therefore Lao Jun uses a Clone; the mortal flesh gets hungry, thirsty, gets teeth stuck, just like an ordinary person.
As for Yu Lin… hmm, Miracle.
"Where will Lao Jun stay tonight? Or is he going back?"
Lao Jun waved his hand:
"No rush, I'll go stay at your place for a few days first." He looked at Yu Lin, smiled, "What, not welcome?"
Yu Lin waved his hand:
"Of course welcome, let's go."
The two walked side by side toward the residential complex.
The security guard at the entrance was looking at his phone, not lifting his head.
They passed the main gate, the flowerbed, the old tree, and went up the stairs.
Yu Lin took out his key, about to open the door, when his gaze fell on the mat at the entrance.
There lay a pair of women's shoes.
He raised an eyebrow, "How did she get here?"
Lao Jun looked down at the shoes, the corner of his mouth lifting slightly:
"A golden house hides a beauty? I didn't see you had such a taste…"
"Cut it out." Yu Lin gave him a glance, opening the door while saying, "I don't believe you don't know who is beside me."
The door opened.
The living room lights were on.
In view sat Dragon Lord in the center, with Qilin and White Tiger on either side; the three beasts crowded onto a sofa, claws on a game controller, eyes fixed on the screen.
Next to them sat another person.
Ning Ya sat with her legs crossed, also holding a controller, hair casually tied in a ponytail, wearing a loose T‑shirt, chewing potato chips.
Obviously she had become a gaming buddy with them.
She was playing intently, her body swaying left and right with the game, potato‑chip crumbs covering her.
Hearing the door open, she turned, saw Yu Lin, and grinned:
"Back already?" She set down the controller, rose from the sofa, her gaze passing Yu Lin to land on Lao Jun behind him.
Lao Jun wore a teal‑gray Daoist robe, his hair tied with a wooden hairpin, cloth shoes on his feet, and a cloth bag in his hand.
Ning Ya sized him up from head to toe, curiosity in her eyes:
"Who is this Daoist?"
Lao Jun gave a slight smile, stepped forward, "Just an ordinary Daoist, here to borrow a place for a few days."
He stood before Ning Ya, examined her for a moment, then suddenly extended his hand, pinching his index and middle fingers together, lightly tapping above her forehead.
"Little girl, I see a flash of spiritual aura over your Heavenly Spirit Cover, your bones are remarkable… I'll give you this pill."
He flicked his curved finger, and a brown pill shot from his fingertip, arcing through the air to land steadily in Ning Ya's palm.
Ning Ya lowered her head, looking at the round pill in her palm, emitting a faint medicinal scent.
She lifted her head, glanced at Lao Jun, then at Yu Lin, opened her mouth, not knowing what to say.
Yu Lin said, "Just take it."
"The Daoist may fail at other things, but the pill will certainly work."
Hearing that, Ning Ya accepted, nodding, "Alright."
Then she thanked Lao Jun, "Thank you, Daoist, for the pill!"
"If the Daoist wants anything to eat during his stay, just tell me, okay!"
Lao Jun adjusted his beard, smiled faintly:
"Then that's all, sorry to trouble you."
Having said that, he lifted the cloth bag and walked toward the guest room beside him.
He pushed open the door, walked in, turned around, and with a thud closed the door.
The guest room was silent; I didn't know what he was doing.
Ning Ya withdrew her gaze and sat down beside Yu Lin.
She lowered her voice, leaned in, as if afraid someone might hear.
"Yu Lin, who is this Daoist priest? He has no trace of cultivation aura—could this be the legendary return to simplicity and unity with the Dao? Or is he the sect leader of some school?"
She paused, held the pill in her palm up to her eyes to examine it; the medicinal fragrance drifted past her nostrils, and she sniffed.
"And what effect does this pill have?"
Yu Lin leaned on the sofa and casually said, "I guess I'm the sect leader, though this Dao is a bit high."
"As for the pill, you'll know once you take it—it's harmless."
Ning Ya looked at him, waited a moment, seeing he had no intention to explain further, so she stopped pressing.
After thinking, she simply shoved the pill into her mouth, chewed twice, and swallowed.
The next moment!
The medicinal power melted in her throat, warm, traveling down the esophagus, then suddenly exploded.
The medicinal power erupted inside her body, like a kettle of water boiling, steam spurting from the spout!
Her face instantly turned red, from neck to forehead, red as a cooked shrimp.
She sprang up violently, the chair was tipped over and crashed to the floor with a thud!
"I... I'm going back to my room first."
She hurried to her own room, pushed the door open, entered, and closed it.
Through the door panel one could hear her sitting cross-legged inside, her breathing shifting from rapid to steady.
Just then, the guest room door opened.
Lao Jun poked half his body out and shouted toward the living room:
"Yu Lin, come here a moment."
"What's up?"
"I have a gift for you."
