Chapter 483: Counterattack on the Golden Triangle (6)

~6 min read 1,182 words

After hesitating for a moment, Luan Caixunuan suddenly grabbed the handgun beside him, aimed it at his own chest, and a trace of resolve appeared on his face.

As the commander of the Thai Expeditionary Force, if captured he would not only lose face but bring disgrace to Thailand; better to die than be taken.

"Bang!" a gunshot rang, the bullet pierced Luan Caixunuan's chest, and blood spurted out instantly.

He fell to the ground, his eyes gradually lost their luster, his breath grew weaker, and finally he ceased all movement.

Thai Expeditionary Force commander Luan Caixunuan died by suicide in despair.

A few Expeditionary Force soldiers, seeing this, shook their heads helplessly and left a few to guard the high‑ranking officer.

The remaining Independent Regiment soldiers put away their rifles and continued advancing toward the Front position.

Meanwhile, Shou Wu Jinger still resisted stubbornly, and the Japanese Army soldiers around him dwindled until only he remained.

He held his rifle, hid in a bunker, and kept firing at the charging Expeditionary Force soldiers, trying to buy time for reinforcements.

But he also knew reinforcements could not arrive; the Japanese Army's forces in Thailand were already stretched thin and could not spare troops to support them.

Independent Regiment Regiment Commander Yao Quanyi, leading several soldiers, charged forward and soon located Shou Wu Jinger's hideout bunker.

A soldier shouted at the bunker, "People inside, listen: you are surrounded, lay down your weapons and surrender immediately! Otherwise we will launch an attack and annihilate you completely!"

Shou Wu Jinger gave no reply, continued firing from the bunker, and bullets whizzed past Yao Quanyi's ear with a sharp whistling sound.

"Since you refuse to surrender, don't blame us for being impolite!" Yao Quanyi's gaze hardened as he gave a signal to the soldiers beside him.

Several soldiers immediately understood, split into two groups: one flanked from the Left, the other restrained from the Right, while Yao Quanyi himself launched a frontal assault, throwing a Hand Grenade into the bunker.

"Boom!" the Hand Grenade exploded, creating a gap in the bunker as mud and shards of stone sprayed everywhere.

Shou Wu Jinger was shaken by the blast wave, dizzy and disoriented, blood streamed from his mouth corner, and his rifle fell to the ground.

Yao Quanyi seized the chance, led the soldiers, stormed into the bunker, pinned Shou Wu Jinger to the ground, and with his other hand bound him with a rope.

He didn't know the Japanese soldier's name, but it was clearly a big fish.

"What a fellow, still a Lieutenant General, that Thai officer still a General, their ranks aren't low!" Yao Quanyi muttered.

Soon, soldiers found information on these officers, and Yao Quanyi learned that the Japanese officer was named Shou Wu Jinger.

"The name is really ugly," Yao Quanyi kicked the bound Shou Wu Jinger.

Shou Wu Jinger struggled, roaring, "Baka! I am a Lieutenant General of the Imperial Japan, you cannot do anything to me!"

Obviously, this Lieutenant General hadn't yet figured out his current position.

"Enough talk, from now on you are a prisoner of my Independent Regiment, stuff something into his mouth, how stinky!" Yao Quanyi said.

"Yes, Regiment Commander!"

The soldier, not knowing where to get a smelly sock, shoved it straight into the Japanese Lieutenant General's mouth, nearly making Shou Wu Jinger faint from the stink.

On the battlefield on the south bank of the Lock River, the smoke gradually cleared.

The air was filled with the charred smell of exploded shells and the scent of blood; shell casings, weapon debris, and Thai soldiers' corpses littered everywhere. The once noisy battlefield now only echoed with the Expeditionary Force soldiers' cheers and occasional groans of the wounded.

The Expeditionary Force soldiers also reacted, quickly transporting the wounded to the field hospital behind.

The hospital was set up on the south bank of the Lock River.

Whether Independent Regiment soldiers or 93rd Division soldiers, all the injured were sent over.

All the doctors at this field hospital came from the Independent Regiment.

The end of the Great Power Battle came far faster than Jiang Anguo had expected.

From the opening artillery barrage to the ground forces' final assault, then crushing the Thai Army, capturing Japanese Lieutenant General Shou Wu Jinger, and killing Thai Expeditionary Force commander Luan Caixunuan.

In just about two hours, a seemingly lopsided clash concluded with a decisive Expeditionary Force victory.

Jiang Anguo and Lv Guoquan walked side by side across the battlefield, their feet in the muddy ground, their eyes scanning the wreckage before them, feeling both emotion and a hint of surprise.

Jiang Anguo crouched, pinching a handful of Thai soil, "This land is really good, suitable for growing rice!"

However, land that has endured artillery fire still needs some nurturing.

Lv Guoquan looked at Jiang Anguo in surprise; he didn't quite understand why the young division commander said the land was suitable for rice.

"I didn't expect this battle to go so smoothly," Lv Guoquan sighed, his tone full of satisfaction.

"I was originally worried about the Thai four divisions; even if we launched an offensive, we'd have to pay a heavy price. I didn't expect their combat power to be so weak,"

Jiang Anguo nodded slightly, his gaze toward the soldiers clearing the battlefield in the distance, his tone calm yet resolute: "Mainly our Artillery performed well; the 105mm mortar's power directly shattered their command system."

The Thai Army's combat will was already weak; once command faltered, the soldiers panicked, either dying in battle or fleeing, with no ability to fight back.

Just then, a communications soldier hurried over, saluting and reporting: "Division Commander, Lv Division Commander, Regiment Commander Yao Quanyi has already delivered the frontline battle report."

"The current casualties are still being tallied, but preliminary estimates put Independent Regiment losses at no more than one hundred, with most casualties concentrated in the early Reinforced Camp defense, and almost no losses during the final assault,"

The statistics from the 93rd Division are not under Jiang Anguo's jurisdiction, so Lv Guoquan must handle them himself.

Of course, the early Reinforced Camp defense at Great Power lost half its troops.

"Losses no more than one hundred?" Lv Guoquan's eyes lit up, a look of incredulous smile on his face.

"Such a loss! This is a great victory! Back then, taking on a Japanese squad cost us several times the casualties; I didn't expect that fighting three Thai divisions would cost us so few!"

Jiang Anguo's face also showed a hint of satisfaction, nodding: "Indeed a great victory. It was largely thanks to Shi Xiaomao's Artillery Battalion; the mortar's power was immense, each mortar firing at least a hundred shells."

Jiang Anguo tugged at his ear; his ears still seemed to hum.

"The pre‑war artillery barrage blew the Thai Army's camp to pieces; their soldiers couldn't react before being stunned by shells. I estimate at least half of Thai casualties were killed by our artillery fire."

Jiang Anguo deeply understood a principle: when poor, use flanking and maneuver; when rich, employ firepower coverage!
