Chapter 112: Ahetanmu and Bartini Jokes
Hearing this, Sinuoli felt relieved. Although Karak-Azgalaz was not a particularly large fortress, Sinuoli believed that with the resilience and defensive capabilities of the Dwarf race, it was absolutely impossible for it to fall in just eight or ten days.
One must know that those famous Dwarf strongholds of the Old World, such as Karak-Angul, Karak Eight Peaks, Karak-Azgal, and so on, only fell after experiencing decades or even centuries of tug-of-war battles.
"What about the enemy? What is the situation with the enemy?" Seeing Maldini's attendant bring him a sweat towel and fresh water, and then lead away his Pegasus, Sinuoli leaned in and continued to ask.
"I did not see any sign of Orcs; there only seemed to be Goblins and the Trolls they drove out!" Maldini said after catching his breath.
"That is reasonable. Orcs are naturally the last batch of green mushrooms to emerge. If a Goblin is the boss, they truly cannot control the Orcs without sufficient prestige," Sinuoli analyzed from the side.
"Yes, I saw a cluster of Night Goblins gathered together in the sky. Judging by their attire, they might be the initiators of this Waaagh!" Maldini continued.
"Wonderful! Having the ability to fly is truly great; one can see the enemy situation at a glance!" Sinuoli revealed an envious look; he knew too well the importance of intelligence to war.
Great men have taught that a commander needs to use all possible and necessary reconnaissance means, take the various materials of the enemy situation obtained from reconnaissance, discard the dross and select the essential, eliminate the false and retain the true, proceed from one to the other, and from the outside to the inside, then add the situation of one's own side, study the comparison and mutual relationship between the two sides, and thus form judgments, make decisions, and create plans.
This is the entire process of understanding the situation for a military strategist before making every strategic, campaign, or battle plan.
"How do you put it, what is their situation?" Sinuoli continued to ask.
"Hmm, they wear hoods and cloaks as if they were born with them. I cannot see clearly, but the one standing in the middle is slightly taller." Bartini gestured with his hands, and Sinuoli felt that the Night Goblin boss should be about as tall as a normal Dwarf.
"It is holding something pointed in its hand, not the sword and shield of an ordinary Night Goblin leader; perhaps it is a staff?" Maldini was a young man after all; his combat experience and life experience were not rich, so he could only give an uncertain inference.
If it were his father, Viscount Akeman, who had been on the battlefield for more than twenty years, he might even be able to make a rough judgment on the age and strength of the Night Goblin boss.
"It is very common for a spellcaster who is larger in size than an average Night Goblin to serve as a Warboss!" Sinuoli affirmed.
"Is there anything else worth noting?" Sinuoli guided Maldini, who was not a professional scout.
"Well, that Night Goblin boss has a very large Cave Squig beside him, the kind that is a pink meatball." Maldini spread his hands, trying to show the size of that Squig.
"Night Goblins are good at taming them; it is also reasonable for the boss to have a larger one beside him!" Sinuoli suddenly had a strange feeling; he tried to obtain a little more information to verify it.
"What else? Does this group of Night Goblins have any other characteristics? Like emblems or banners?" Sinuoli wanted more information to help him make decisions. This was the first major battle he was commanding alone, and he hoped to minimize uncertain factors as much as possible.
"A grinning moon, a crescent moon, or is it a full moon? I am not very sure. The leading Black Dwarfs all have these on their hats!" Maldini used his imagination to try to describe the clumsy and abstract creations of the Greenskins.
"A grinning moon? Night Goblins? Holding something pointed? A large-sized Squig beside him?" Sinuoli repeated the key information provided by Maldini.
"You... Valaya above!" Sinuoli finally connected it all. "Skarsnik! Warlord of Eight Peaks!" He spat out these ten words, enunciating each one clearly, as if every letter weighed more than a thousand catties.
"Skarsnik? What does this mean, cousin?" This was Balin's voice.
"This is the middle section of the Grey Mountains! Karak Eight Peaks is far away in the Badlands, over a thousand miles away!" This was the voice of Captain Gelunsen; he only heard the word "Eight Peaks" clearly.
"Right, Skarsnik started his army from Karaka-Wuwei Fort!" Sinuoli slapped his forehead; he connected everything.
"Pass my order, convene a pre-battle meeting!" Sinuoli roared. He gave extremely high importance to Skarsnik, the unique Goblin Warlord who possessed intelligence.
"I want to keep him here, keep him under the walls of Karak-Azgalaz!" Sinuoli secretly made a vow. He knew that if he really succeeded, then on the road to recapturing Karak Eight Peaks, the eternal place of sorrow for the Mountain Kingdom, there would be one less huge obstacle in the future.
Although they were puzzled, the guards around Sinuoli quickly dispersed. Ten minutes later, the various persons in charge of the convoy gathered in Sinuoli's tent.
In front of a temporarily set-up table, Sinuoli spread out a map. It depicted the terrain of Karaka-Wuwei Fort.
"Everyone!" Sinuoli stood in front of the main seat, squinting his eyes to examine the attendees. They were:
Questing Knight Fatisi, responsible for commanding the human adventurers recruited by the convoy;
Pegasus Knight Maldini, responsible for commanding the human troops of Bretonnia;
Engineer Buluokesen, Sinuoli authorized him to be responsible for commanding the artillery crews and the Dwarf long-range firepower other than the Irondrakes;
Manticore Slayer Rogov, responsible for commanding the Slayer troops; of course, his formidable martial strength and fighting spirit might be the best among them all;
Buerjin of Huangwu Bao, he was the military adjutant arranged by Lord Borok, responsible for commanding the Dwarf melee troops supported by Karak-Norn;
Eternal Hammer Guard Gelunsen, Sinuoli appointed this Longbeard elder, who was equal in beard and strength, to serve as his military adjutant;
Cousin Tomi, who relied on his status as a wealthy merchant and his kinship with Sinuoli to become Sinuoli's spokesperson in the caravan, and was now responsible for leading the merchants and their guards.
And Ogre Irongut Ahetanmu, who was squatting outside the tent because he was too big to get in, undoubtedly responsible for commanding the Ogre Mercenaries.
"Calling everyone here so late is for tomorrow's battle. The Ancestor Goddess just sent down an oracle for me!" Sinuoli pushed the reason onto the Mother Goddess without saying another word.
"She told me that the commander of that group of sneaky Black Dwarfs is a great enemy of our Sons of the Mountains! She demands that we behead him on the spot!" Sinuoli's voice was not loud, but the people in the tent became solemn upon hearing this.
