Chapter 117: Observing the Battlefield
Sinuoli watched the caravan in the distance gradually approach; with the aid of a telescope, he could see a rough outline at a range of three thousand meters.
Just as he had not discovered the movements of the Night Goblins and was worried that his baiting strategy had been seen through, he felt the ground suddenly tremble.
As if a dark green fungal carpet were gradually spreading, groups of Night Goblins emerged from their originally dim hiding places; they assembled into somewhat messy formations and swarmed toward the direction of the caravan.
"Take a look, how many Black Dwarfs are there roughly?" Sinuoli handed the telescope to Captain Gelunsen, who had been leaning forward beside him; this elderly warrior's eyesight was not so good anymore.
"Hmm, I estimate, over a thousand? Less than two thousand, I'd say!" Captain Gelunsen rarely fought Night Goblins on the surface, but relying on his hundreds of years of experience, he made a judgment quickly.
"That Night Goblin boss is indeed as wise as you said!" Captain Gelunsen was somewhat mesmerized by what he saw.
"If it were a typical Greenskin army, they would have swarmed the caravan upon seeing it; raiding a caravan in the wild is much more attractive than gnawing on city walls! But it is clear that the Greenskins appearing on the surface now are only a portion! That boss judged that these troops were enough to eat up the portion of strength the caravan displayed!" Captain Gelunsen was somewhat distracted.
Sinuoli took the telescope from his hand to observe for himself. The old Dwarf's voice rang out, "I have never seen Greenskins capable of doing this before! We must carry out the Mother Goddess's oracle and keep it here forever!"
Once a race born for war like the Greenskins possesses such a boss, the consequences would be unimaginable.
Sinuoli saw the fungal carpet sweep toward the Dwarf army; a leading Dwarf seemed to suddenly grow taller, and Sinuoli blinked his eyes before realizing it was Buerjin standing on his Shield-Bearer Platform.
Immediately after, Buluokesen directed the Artillery crew to pull off the covers on the Artillery; the already pre-loaded Artillery displayed its might in almost an instant.
Fireballs, cannonballs, and Crossbow bolts were fired simultaneously; the rapidly spreading fungal carpet seemed to have been suddenly pressed on the pause button, and the Night Goblins were stunned by the death raining down from above.
However, this was not enough to make their morale collapse; soon, under the shouting of a leader holding a long weapon, they charged forward once again.
"How is it? How is it?" Captain Gelunsen, who heard the roar of the Artillery, could not see clearly and wanted to take the telescope from Sinuoli's hand again.
"After I return to Everpeak, I will equip every Captain-level figure under my command with a telescope!" Sinuoli thought while handing the telescope to the old Dwarf.
"Good, well hit!" Captain Gelunsen swung his empty right hand.
"Come, come, let me see too!" Sinuoli took the telescope back.
"Ouch!"
He exclaimed; as soon as he aimed it, his eyes were fiercely dazzled by the sunlight reflected by the mirror-like armor of the Brass Guard.
"The strange things made by Karak Izor are still quite interesting!" Captain Gelunsen sighed, "I think when fighting in the glaciers, those who oppose them wouldn't even dare to open their eyes at noon!"
Sinuoli saw that through the brief time gained by the Artillery volley, the Dwarf melee troops who had climbed out of the carriages quickly set up their formation.
He could not see the specific battle damage clearly, but that dark green fungal carpet came to an abrupt halt just like waves meeting a reef! There was even a trend of it being gradually pushed back.
The leaders of the two armies commanding the battle did not seem to have invested in Bagpipe Lung Capacity or loud voices; Sinuoli could not hear the orders they issued, only vaguely hearing "Waaagh" sounds and the rising and falling battle cries of the Dwarfs.
"Let me see!" Captain Gelunsen took the telescope again, "Grungni's beard! The formation Buerjin set up is too tight!" He called out with some nervousness.
Before Sinuoli could ask what had happened, "That Engineer you found from Zhufuba! That Little Beard is really good!" Captain Gelunsen took a swig from his flask.
"Good marksmanship! Although I don't want to admit it, sometimes taking out those filthy things from afar is also a pretty good choice!"
"Listen to me, young man!" Captain Gelunsen slapped away Sinuoli's right hand as he tried to take the telescope.
"Just now, the Dwarf-thing boss sent out a few Fanatics who had taken Madcap Mushrooms; they swung their meteor hammers, attempting to tear through the caravan's defensive line, but before they could even spin to our kin, that Little Beard shot them dead with a few shots!"
"By Mogelimu! Doesn't that mean they spun a lot of their own Dwarf-things to death during the warm-up phase?" Sinuoli laughed.
Those Fanatics needed to spin a few times in their own ranks to build up the kinetic energy of the hammers before coming into contact with the heavily armored Dwarf troops; considering the tight formation on the battlefield, it was inevitable that the Night Goblins around them would be dragged in.
At this moment, Sinuoli heard another sound of horse hooves coming from his side below; he looked down and saw his second route, the Humans, had also begun to act.
"Boss! Boss! Da Orks think that stuntie caravan is acting fishy!" At the same time, a Night Goblin leader stumbled into the cave in the woods.
"Eat slower, Gobla! There will be fresh beard-meat again soon!" Skarsnik was squatting and feeding his partner.
"Evil Moon shines high! Under Mork, I, Skarsnik, am the greatest!" He raised his head; the recent failure of the attack on Fearless Fort had made his eyes even redder.
Looking at the two red lights in the dim cave and listening to the sound of the giant Squig swallowing and chewing, the reporting Night Goblin became afraid. "Respected Boss, there are stunties in the carriages, they have boom-booms! We, we are no match!"
"Oh? Interesting, interesting! Who dares to play tricks in front of me, Skarsnik! I will cut off his beard and tie it to Gobla's neck!"
"Let the Squig-riding lads out! Don't they always fuss about not being full? Now, the meal has been delivered under the radiance of the Evil Moon!" Skarsnik grinned and made his decision, but before he finished speaking, another Night Goblin rushed in.
"Mozhetian, why are you running around instead of finding a place to rest? When the Evil Moon rises, you still have to lead the lads to climb the iron shells!" Looking at the tall Goblin who had to bow his head to enter the cave, Skarsnik rarely showed some patience.
"The Snotlings on watch report that a bunch of horse-riding shrimps have come from the south!" It panted and said; running under the scorching sun at noon undoubtedly made it somewhat uncomfortable.
"Horse-riding shrimps? Didn't they all go to the east? We spent a hell of a lot of effort to avoid them on the way here!" Skarsnik stroked Gobla's back and fell into thought.
Thanks to the Lizard Keeper for the tip, the boss of Night Knight, Leowatch, Iron Armor Still, and Temple Knight for the monthly tickets. Haven't finished thanking everyone, will continue tonight.
