Chapter 154: The Dilemma of the Emperor's Flower

~7 min read 1,261 words

Sinuoli swung his Warhammer with his right hand, while his left hand was half-cupped in front of his mouth like a megaphone, cheering for his Human friends from afar.

"In the name of the Ancient Covenant, we are almost there! The rats are finished!" Noticing that Sinuoli had already routed the Skaven flank and was only about one hundred meters in a straight line from the enemy's main formation under the Screaming Bell, the Humans' morale soared.

"Kill! Kill all these big rats!" Viscount Thompson was not wearing his fashionable wide-brimmed hat now; he was in full military gear, relying on his Plate Armor and the sword and shield in his hands to hold the very front of the line alongside the Ruike foot Knights.

"Grom the Paunch's Waaagh cannot break Helmgart, the lickspittles of the bitch across the mountains cannot break Helmgart, how could she fall into the hands of a bunch of beasts?" The Viscount roared as he hacked and slashed at the rats before him.

Just as he was shouting and fighting fiercely, doom descended. In the black sky, under the green light of Moersilibu, several black figures suddenly streaked across.

They leaped lightly from the roof of the Sigmar Temple, rolled slightly upon landing, and dodged several weapons blocking their path amidst their agile movements.

"Watch out! Lord Viscount!"

"No! Don't!"

Viscount Thompson, in the midst of battle, was stunned upon hearing this, but by the time he reacted, a dagger was already embedded in his chest.

"Hah, hah!" Looking down at the dagger tip that had suddenly emerged from his chest, the Human lord gasped twice more before dying from the deadly poison of the Warpstone.

"My, why didn't my Dwarf-forged Runic Plate Armor work?" This was the last thought in his mind before he died.

"Ahhh!" The Human warriors were enraged; they abandoned their posts and charged to hack at the few Skaven that had descended from the sky.

"Bang!" One of the Skaven assassins seemed to have anticipated this situation; it pulled a bomb from under its cloak and threw it on the ground. When this bomb exploded, it did not release fire or shrapnel, but instead spewed out a black smoke screen.

This smoke screen obscured the figures of the Skaven assassins and caused the surrounding Human warriors to cough repeatedly, unable to breathe. Accompanied by a few short screams, they rolled and leaped a few more times and disappeared into the sea of Skaven.

"Weeping Blade? Death Runners?" Sinuoli muttered to himself while witnessing this scene. In fact, Sinuoli was not surprised by their appearance at all; he had been secretly on guard ever since he discovered the traces of Clan Eshin.

To be honest, the appearance of only Death Runners was already a relatively good situation—those granted this title were the Gutter Runners with the most potential to become assassin mentors.

They were the elite among Gutter Runners and would also serve as squad commanders in the absence of higher-ranking Clan Eshin members. They were especially skilled in using mysterious Far Eastern combat techniques.

Fortunately, the leading Grey Seer Lord could not afford enough Warpstone tokens, otherwise, it could have hired an assassin mentor of Clan Eshin or even a Master Assassin who had earned the title of Deathmaster to serve it.

Sinuoli silently prayed for the Human noble with whom he had chatted quite a bit at the city gate earlier that day. But he knew there was no time to delay; he had to seize the opportunity of the Human warriors being filled with righteous indignation over their lord's death to rout the Skaven, otherwise, it would be difficult once the hot blood in their chests cooled down!

"Fight, Human friends! Fight! Protect your home!" Sinuoli shouted, and at his signal, his subordinates all joined in the shouting.

"Man-spawn, the Sons of the Mountains have come to help you!"

"Hack the rats to pieces, settle the Grudge!"

Surrounded by his kin, Sinuoli felt a sense of security in the cold winter night. Ever since he transmigrated, he had been warning himself to be cautious and careful, not to be flashy when fighting, lest he be picked off by strange long-range firepower or assassins.

Now it seemed his self-protection awareness had served its intended purpose. Sinuoli believed he was also a primary target on the Death Runners' assassination list,

but because he had been under the protection of the Anvil Guard and his equipment had no eye-catching features, the Skaven assassins could not judge in their haste which one was the commander of this Dwarf unit.

In the eyes of the Clan Eshin assassins, perhaps Captain Gelunsen, whose equipment was better than his comrades', who had a snow-white beard and wore a conspicuous blue uniform; Qiangsen, who had a loud voice and was clearly a Dwarf elite commander; and Buluokesen, who was commanding the artillery crew, might all have higher assassination priority than Sinuoli.

The Humans' desire to fight was extremely strong; soldiers from the provincial regiments also rushed out from the ruins of the temple, followed by several apprentice Priests of Sigmar, who had also undergone the tonsure ceremony just like the full members.

Having a lord and mentor killed by Skaven on the battlefield, within their own ranks, was a supreme humiliation for any Order race. The fire of vengeance burned fiercely in their chests.

Sinuoli saw that even that Bright Wizard had drawn the precious sword at his waist and started hacking at the Skaven before him in melee combat.

However, this state of a melee mage appearing on a Flame Wizard was not strange. Aksh, with its fiery nature, favored reckless and passionate fellows, and its users were often combat experts as well.

The short distance was quickly covered even by the short legs of the Dwarfs. Relying on the powerful momentum brought by their armor and weight, Sinuoli and his subordinates crashed like a battering ram into the Skaven's already compressed and distorted line.

Almost in an instant, they crushed a group of rats that had been squeezed to the front row by their own kind behind them, creating a huge indentation.

"Buluokesen! Tell the artillery crew to knock out that broken bell for me!" Sinuoli roared. He saw that the Grey Seer had already stepped down from the cart carrying the pendulum with its staff, and a white-haired big rat with bulging, deformed muscles and a back stuck full of green Warpstone shards had replaced it to ring the bell.

"By Mogelimu! Warpstone can be used in such a wide variety of ways?" With only twenty-some meters of distance, Sinuoli could see clearly without a telescope that it was obviously a disposable, mutated rat.

This guy was much more energetic than the skinny spellcaster; it pulled the rope with enough strength to shatter the pendulum, and under the influence of the noise, the rat-vermin perked up again as if they had taken stimulants.

Buluokesen had been annoyed by that green, moving big target for a long time; he pushed aside the original gunner and personally operated the Cannon to aim at it.

The Grey Seer also felt a jolt in its heart as it looked at the dark muzzle not far away. It knew that the Screaming Bell was crucial to the morale of the rat-vermin right now; once the pendulum was destroyed by Artillery, the already starving Skaven troops would soon collapse. It immediately pulled out a bottle of potion and poured it into its mouth.
