Chapter 207: Two Behemoths
I saw that a portion of the Humans who were originally traveling with the caravan were gradually mutating; some had hair growing out of their bodies, and others had teeth in their mouths lengthening into beastly fangs!
"Beastialization! That, that fellow can amplify the savage and bestial parts of the Humans' souls from the deepest depths of their minds! If this continues, these poor people will completely turn into beasts!"
Sitelinge's advisor identified this terrifying wild magic, and his exclamation caused fear to arise in the hearts of the Dwarfs; some clansmen with less firm wills also began to twitch in pain.
"Quick, the Hearth and Home Rune!" Sinuoli shouted from afar; this rune, which could evoke a sense of honor and courage in people's hearts, could counter damage that acted directly upon the depths of the soul.
Sitelinge reacted, and he quickly invoked the power of the rune; the Dwarfs' alienation stopped, but the young Rune Smith's power was still far from enough to contend with the Legendary Bray-Shaman, and although the alienation of those Humans with weak minds had slowed, it was still continuing.
"Do it, Prince! They, these Human friends will understand you!" The advisor calmed down, and looking at the poor people who had already lost their human form, with red eyes and saliva flowing from the corners of their mouths, he quickly advised.
"This, I..." Sitelinge hesitated, holding his Forging Hammer.
"Hehe! Little one, obey your own heart and release your fire of desire!" Malage raised its staff again. This Beastman, blessed by the Chaos Gods, was adept at seizing any opportunity to drag its opponents into the abyss.
"Noisy crow, shut your mouth!" Sinuoli would never sit by and watch it cast spells; since triggering the Doom Anvil was useless, he would just use his hammer to physically interfere.
A Storm Hammer whistled toward the Crow Father in mid-air; after all, it was a spellcaster and dared not take the hit head-on, so it was forced to flap its wings to dodge, interrupting its own foul spell.
"Shorties, you are a bit tougher than the fragile hoofless ones, but so what? You still cannot dodge our horns!" Seeing the Dwarfs enter the narrow valley entrance, Malage simply stopped wasting its mana.
If prepared in advance, with enough foul totems set up, and with the added blessings of the Herdstone, the Evil Moon, and so on, Dark Omen Malage could even twist an entire town into a paradise for beasts at once.
However, Dwarfs were born with a certain resistance to the corruption of Chaos, and it had come in a rush; with the timing, terrain, and people not in harmony, its ability to bewitch hearts was quite restricted.
"Charge! I have heard the whispers of the gods; the brave may perhaps win ascension!" Malage waved its staff, scattering the grace of the Chaos Gods upon its subordinates.
The favor received by this Legendary Bray-Shaman included, beyond its wings, that low and unique voice; its voice seemed to reach directly into the depths of the soul, and when it chanted spells, it could make the listeners full of physical strength and increased in speed.
A large group of Beastmen emerged from the depths of the dense forest; they were almost equal in number to the Skaven, but even the worst among them were on par with or slightly superior to Clanrats. Following Malage's spellcasting, a cloak condensed from dark power appeared behind these Beastmen.
"In the name of Gorok, crush the fools who do not revere the gods!" Malage released a high-level wild magic—Cloak of Gorok—significantly enhancing the lethality of its subordinates. This spell originated from the first Minotaur of the realms, who in legend possessed the power of a storm.
"Fire! Three-Stage Shooting Method!" Sinuoli commanded as he watched the beast herd charging over. Because the valley entrance was narrow and the ranged troops could not fully deploy, they switched to a different shooting method.
I saw the Dwarf marksmen lined up in three rows; first, the first row fired their guns, then retreated to the back of the formation to focus on reloading ammunition, and then the second row of warriors stepped forward to fire. The three rows of clansmen took turns reloading and firing, and the dense barrage suppressed the Beastmen's advance.
Malage, in mid-air, watched its large force crowded at the narrow valley entrance, being easily harvested by the Dwarfs' ranged fire, and felt anxious. These guys, whose desire for battle—that is, beast-frenzy—had reached its peak, had only one thought left: to rush in and satisfy their hunger for flesh and blood.
Dark Omen was not a person of courage without strategy; it knew that this Dwarf team did not have much food, and as long as it blocked the valley entrance for three or five days, they would either be forced to break out or collapse without a fight.
But it also knew it did not have the time to do so; although it had used a ruse to shake off the Wood Elves for a distance, those environmentalists were still in hot pursuit, and the Dwarfs in the surrounding Shanbao might also arrive to support.
Thinking of this, the scepter in its hand waved again!
"By Grimnir, a Ghorgon!"
"A four-armed bull demon, this thing exists too?"
"A Cyclops, watch out!"
With a tremor of the earth, two behemoths walked out; the fellow with only one eye on its forehead uprooted a tree and threw it at the Dwarfs, but its aim was poor and it hit the mountain, shaking down rain-like rubble.
The other one was even more direct, rushing straight toward the valley entrance. The four-armed bull demon was originally a powerful Minotaur, but endless hunger caused them to twist and mutate, turning into savage monsters with multiple arms.
When the monster walked closer, Sinuoli discovered that it was covered in wounds, its body full of injuries left by arrows, with some arrowheads still remaining inside. One of its arms was also missing; it was now literally a three-armed bull demon, which was perhaps the reason Malage did not let it enter the battle immediately.
"Fire the cannons!" Buluokesen gave the order directly without needing Sinuoli's command; facing such a large target, the artillery crew did not need to aim at all, just fire away.
The Cannon balls and ballistae hit the target accurately, but the effect was truly minimal; not to mention the whole arm, even the forearm of that giant beast was comparable to the Cannon itself, and small projectiles could not cause much damage.
That Ghorgon, under the shocked gazes of the Dwarfs, waved its massive arms to scoop up a few Ungors from the ground and stuffed them into its bloody maw to chew. With the intake of fresh flesh and blood, its injuries seemed to be easing, and flesh buds emerged from the stump of its arm.
"Bang!"
"Duang!"
Physical brute force and the Meteorite Iron Armor collided directly; the Meteorite Iron Armor of the Ironbreakers was no sturdier before this behemoth than the crude breastplates of the Bretonnian Infantry.
They were directly smashed into terrifying curves, and the flesh wrapped within went without saying. Some clansmen were also swept into mid-air, then slammed heavily against the mountain.
Sinuoli poured his full effort into the healing effect of the Valaya Ritual; a large number of green light orbs filled the valley entrance, and although the miracle greatly encouraged the clansmen's desire for battle, Sinuoli sadly discovered that these light orbs were floating in the air and could not find targets. They could only heal, not resurrect.
