Chapter 386: The Two Daemons Conspire
"The Changyuan Shaowei held them off?"
Sinuoli raised his eyebrows and asked. If that two-headed Daemon of Tzeentch was truly the one he thought it was, the capabilities of Biaolong Miaoying were indeed formidable.
"Yes, although that daemon's fierce flames were monstrous, forcing the Governor to take action personally several times. However, under the divine might of the Shenlong, it could only look on and flee."
"Let's go, let's continue the tour!"
Sinuoli nodded. He hadn't gone through so much trouble and spent so much gold to come in here just to listen to stories; if he went out and found a teahouse, a tael of silver would be enough to have a storyteller talk for an entire afternoon, and their skill would be far better than this Ranger Captain's.
During the subsequent tour, Sinuoli was responsible for chatting with the Ranger Captain to attract his attention, Buluokesen carefully observed every wreck to find suitable targets, and Asuota memorized the terrain and guard posts along the way.
"Number twelve, number twenty-nine, and number thirty-three are the priorities; their cores are relatively intact!"
After finishing the tour and returning to the inn, Sinuoli erected the Chenshi Bili, and the Dwarf leaders gathered to hold a meeting. The Engineering Master circled three red circles on the rough map of the Neiyuan that the Ranger Captain had drawn from memory.
"Good, I'll take the brothers up to scout the place tonight. Once we've set the path, we'll bring you Engineers up tomorrow!"
The reconnaissance that night went smoothly, and the height of the Dwarfs played a role at this time. The Rangers successfully avoided the guards and figured out the routes to those three wrecks.
"A strange wind suddenly came, the entire forest was fluttering, and we almost got exposed!"
"Two Changyuan Shaowei suddenly ran over to relieve themselves."
"Two Vermillion Birds flew in from somewhere, illuminating the area around the wrecks."
But in the three nights that followed, the Engineers' operations all failed; all sorts of accidents stopped them. Once or twice could be considered a coincidence, but for three nights in a row, anyone would know there was something fishy.
"I suspect it's Yin Yin. She has seen the Rune guards and knows we really might be able to build similar giant constructs. The agreement reached with Zhaoming in the village that day probably didn't escape her notice either."
Sinuoli made his own deduction; there were not many fellows with the ability and motive to do this.
"Let's set off for Nangao! See if we can get the Storm Dragon's approval. We've come this far, how could we easily give up?"
"I can see the past, it once burned in raging fire!"
"I can see the future, it will be destroyed along with this world!"
"But what about now? How can I break through it!"
Just as the Dwarf team was marching north out of the city, on the outskirts of the Jianqi Moyu in the Warp, at the top of a twisted silver-white tower, a hunched Greater Daemon of Tzeentch was pacing irritably.
Compared to other Lords of Change, it appeared decrepit, as could be glimpsed from its sparse and withered feathers, yet no daemon dared to mock it for this. Because this was Kairos Fateweaver, the Oracle of Tzeentch, and also the first Greater Daemon under her command!
In the Xuwang Baolei, there was a Well of Eternity, which legend said contained the answers to all unknowns. At the beginning of his transmigration, Sinuoli had been subjected to the phantoms of the daemon realm projected into his mind by Tzeentch.
One day, Tzeentch could finally no longer suppress the craving for the secrets at the bottom of the well; she grabbed servants one by one and threw them into the well to scout the way, but without exception, they all became victims of her curiosity and whims.
【The book friends of ten years recommended a reading app to me, Wild Fruit Reading. It's really damn good. I rely on this for reading and listening to books to pass the time while driving or before going to sleep. You can download it here. yeguoyuedu】
It wasn't until Kairos that, after crawling out from the bottom of the well, it split into two heads. One had a thorough grasp of the past, completely unconstrained by memory or emotion, looking back at the past as if it were clearly before its eyes.
The other head could see the infinite possibilities of the future, catching glimpses of eras yet to come and the endless variables ahead. All of this had a price, which was that it could never see the present.
"Clatter, clatter!"
This place was like a library, with a massive number of books filling the space. These books shimmered with blue and pink iridescent light, and some covers even mutated to reveal bloody maws or twisted facial features.
Every single one of them would be considered a peerless grimoire if it fell into the Mortal World. Large groups of Tzeentch Daemons were frantically flipping through them, among them even the massive bodies of Greater Daemons. Sensing the wrath of their superior, these fellows moved with increasing urgency.
"Kairos, my old friend, long time no see! What is it that makes you so restless?"
Just then, a figure appeared on the windowsill of the silver tower. If Sinuoli were here, he would recognize at once that this was that Buxuezhe Pukeerte!
"Let me see! Ha! Zhaluoke, you really are a piece of trash! How many years has it been and you still haven't taken down a Dwarf!"
Kairos's left head turned at a strange angle upon hearing the sound. With just a light sweep, the previous experiences of this Pukeerte were clear in its mind.
"You haven't fared any better, have you? Five years without gain before the defenses built by mortals, if you don't count the free hair-trimming service!"
Pukeerte took off his hood, revealing a pale, old face. Facing the Seer of Tzeentch, he felt not the slightest fear. The noisy arguing and complaining of the daemons in the silver tower ceased, leaving only the rustling sound of pages turning; no daemon dared to disturb their mutual sarcasm.
"That damned Great Vortex! If it weren't for it draining the Winds of Magic, I could turn that annoying lizard into a small centipede with a snap of my fingers!"
"There are no 'ifs' in this world, especially for you."
"Shut your mouth! If you're only here to chatter, I don't mind teaching you how to respect your seniors. Although that stupid thing Ku'gath is being tormented quite miserably in the Linghun Duanlu, it's still enough to give you a hard time! Coming here still wearing this skin, I'm afraid your fur hasn't grown back yet!"
Kairos turned around to face the Scholar, its two bird heads seemingly wanting to swallow his small, thin body whole. Among all its colleagues, the Fateweaver liked the one before it the least.
Its mechanism of ability was essentially the same as a normal person's eyes; when staring, the left head saw the past and the right head saw the future, but if it looked away or was not within the line of sight, it still couldn't see.
The past, in principle, would not change, but the future seen by the right head was not necessarily so. For example, a person sees an apple on a tree, but if the apple falls to the ground after a period of time, the knowledge will not be updated unless it is observed again.
People do not pay attention to whether an apple falls at every moment, and Kairos, as the first Greater Daemon under Tzeentch, was even busier. There were countless things worth observing in the heavens and worlds; it could not keep staring at one thing.
It is not easy to change the future, but that depends on who it is. Zhaluoke the Fate-Twister, as his title suggests, happened to be good at this. In the process of competing for Tzeentch's favor and ascending in rank, Zhaluoke had caused Kairos's prophecies to fail more than once.
"Of course not! I have a plan that requires your help. If everything goes smoothly, then your goals and mine can be achieved together!" Zhaluoke, disguised as the Scholar, ignored Kairos's threat and still wore a smile.
