Chapter 492: The Four Gods' Daemon Army
"Blood for the Blood God, skulls for the Skull Throne!"
"Are we just going to watch them summon more people, more Daemons? If I had a Thunder Airship, I'd fly over there and blow them to smithereens!"
As a Bloodthirster with monstrous flames drilling its way out, Malakai Makaisson couldn't help but promote his own products. Skarbrand's massacre beneath the Eight Peaks had made it clear to the Old World once again that there is a world of difference between a Greater Daemon and a so-called cultist, even among the forces of Chaos.
"What else can we do? The initiative is in their hands. The further away they open the Chaos Rift, the better, but the location of the Slann's ritual is fixed."
Sinuoli muttered. He knew how much shock and pressure a well-organized, direct Daemon army could bring to mortals; any army with inferior quality would simply scatter and flee.
"Kabanha? I heard that after being backstabbed by Skarbrand, there were no great generals left under the Skull Throne. I didn't expect they'd send a piece of trash like you to serve as the vanguard?"
"Aren't you afraid you won't be able to return to the Brass Citadel in your ruined form? That mortal who banished Skarbrand is right across from you!"
"Last time on the Realm of Battle, I saw you getting pinned down and hammered by a few pus-bags! Have you finished healing your wounds before coming here to be served as a dish?"
The Daemon armies of Khorne and Tzeentch were in a state of perpetual war, and meeting in the Mortal World still inevitably led to some trash talk. Kabanha, having been sent to lead the charge, was clearly not someone whose brain was filled with muscle; it did not get easily provoked into charging forward with its weapon, but instead stood firm to observe the formation.
"Ha! You old scoundrels, so you're afraid to cross over! Without the tricks you rely on for survival, you're no different from the ground-chickens of the Kun Realm!"
Although he lacked the ability to sense the Winds of Magic, as an Inner Circle Greater Daemon who had campaigned across the heavens, he was well-informed and quickly identified the first obstacle placed on the path to the top of the pyramid.
"You, take the little ones and go scout it out!"
After mocking the Lords of Change, Kabanha raised the iron whip in its hand and issued an order to the troops at its feet. There was no such thing as fear for the servants of the Blood God; the stronger the enemy, the more valuable their skulls were.
"Boom! Boom!"
Since it was a probe, naturally no giant like a Greater Daemon would join in. Sinuoli only managed to see the appearance of the enemy through binoculars from thousands of meters away—it was a large group of humanoid Daemons covered in scarlet skin, their master's favorite color.
These low-level Khorne troops, known as Bloodletters, had beast-like faces, muscular limbs, long-horned slender skulls, and pupil-less eyes burning with rage. Unlike the chaos common to other Four Gods' troops, they marched in neat ranks, simply because their creator was also the Lord of War!
"Hahaha!"
"Scared the hell out of me! They can't even get across!"
"Praise the great power of the Slann!"
Before Sinuoli could praise their military bearing, and before the warriors' hands gripping their weapons could break into a cold sweat, the Bloodletter formation fell into chaos not long after they started walking—their bodies began to disintegrate at a speed visible to the naked eye.
"Keep moving forward!"
Kabanha's roar rang out. Once they entered the anti-magic zone and could not receive replenishment from Chaos Energy, every movement the Daemons made consumed the energy stored within their own bodies in the Warp to maintain their form.
After advancing another few hundred meters, only the Bloodletter leader riding the Iron Bull remained. It looked stronger, and its body was covered in many pieces of armor cast from brass and steel, but from a distance, Sinuoli could not judge whether this was an intermediate-level Bloodreaper or a higher-ranking Khorne Herald.
"Fire!"
The Lizardmen also knew what it was trying to do by refusing to retreat, and how could they let it succeed in probing the effectiveness of the anti-magic zone at such a low cost? The resurrection ritual was being performed for the first time, and even the second-generation Slann did not have a precise count of how long it would take, but striving for as much time as possible was definitely the right move.
"Pulu-lu!"
At the Great Beastmaster's command, a dark red giant beast that had been lying on the ground rose up and shot a stream of nauseating pus from its mouth. This substance was highly volatile and burned violently as soon as it touched the air.
The Bloodletter leader was sprayed head-on by this incendiary agent while still charging. Stuck with the biological agent, it continued to burn; after roaring in impotent rage, both the Daemon and the bull were banished back to the Warp.
"Gaga! Very troublesome, the interference of this ritual with arcane energy is even more powerful than that damned Great Vortex!"
The Lord of Change who first stepped into the Mortal World stared fixedly at the movements of the Bloodletters. It shook its cloak, raised the staff covered in hideous eyeballs in its claw, and pointed at the energy vortex spanning the sky.
"Noisy! We are not blind like Kairos! Six thousand years ago, I was also present. At most, Caledor could hold off one old toad, and that group of mages could count as another, making it only two. There are four old toads squatting up there!"
As divine Lords of Change, they still had to fight for seating and their master's favor. Although Tzeentch had appointed a leader for this operation, wasn't He also happy to see changes happen?
"Tell the ones behind, stop sending over the trash! Especially those little green beans, they're just replenishing energy for their ritual!"
Kabanha had no interest in intervening in their infighting; the Tzeentch Daemon army was not the protagonist in this battle anyway. Maintaining the expansion of the Chaos Rift against the energy vortex to let the other three armies pour in endlessly would be a great achievement.
"Wagaga, who is praying piously to the Benevolent Father, calling for His loyal child?"
Before the roar had faded, a massive green blob squeezed out of the portal, accompanied by a pattering of foul-smelling rain. Without a doubt, this was nothing good—the Bloodletters at Kabanha's feet wailed as they were drenched, white smoke rising from them.
"Clean up your stench, Rotigus! You've dirtied my feathers!"
"Aha! What does Rotigus see? My lovely little Dwarf! I heard you are also called the Generous One? Come over here and let me give you a hug~"
The Great Unclean One ignored the others, looking toward Sinuoli's direction and opening its short, thick arms. As it spoke, the gashes all over its body opened and closed, spraying out torrents of pus.
Hearing its true name, Sinuoli understood why this Daemon had singled him out—this fellow, known as the "Yufu," was the second-ranking Greater Daemon under Nurgle. During the time Kugasi was being punished in the Soul Forge, it was in charge of the daily work in the Plague Garden and spreading Nurgle's faith across the heavens and worlds.
"Don't block the door, you bastard! I smell the scent of Aenarion! That Elf is mine, no one is allowed to fight me for him!"
Before Sinuoli could respond, a massive hoof kicked out from the portal. Yufu was kicked into a stagger by the sneak attack from behind, and then a Slaanesh Greater Daemon with pincers growing from its ribs strode out.
Looking across the Lizardmen army toward Tyrion on the left, Sinuoli guessed that this Daemon must be the Slaanesh Temptor—N'Kari. It swept across the Daemon realms and the Mortal World, with the wildest and purest taste for pleasure and bliss.
