Chapter 498: Who is the Flaw?

~7 min read 1,290 words

"Concentrate fire! Eliminate as many as we can!"

"Ding-ding!"

"Da-da!"

"Stop using the Sulfur Guns! Load the Trollhammer Torpedoes!"

As the Lizardmen air force was broken through step by step, the Dwarfs and High Elves fired their aerial weaponry in succession, but these strikes, lethal to mortals, remained ineffective against the Greater Daemons of Khorne born for war.

Bloodthirsters are the strongest in head-on combat; their high natural armor and the high magic resistance granted by the Lord of Skulls make them only slightly less durable than Great Unclean Ones.

"Bolt throwers! Use the bolt throwers!"

"Messenger of Taiboke, please show your power!"

Yisitelanna had rarely felt so powerless; the Dragons and Phoenixes that helped the High Elves rule the skies were not under her jurisdiction—Prince Imrik and Tyrion had never been harmonious since the moment they first met, and the noble Phoenixes born of magic were not suited for the current scene.

On the Sky-Slayer Chariot pulled by Giant Eagles, the Yingzhua Nupao were quickly drawn, but the ferocity of the Bloodthirsters exceeded their imagination—these creatures, at home in a rain of arrows and gunfire, could deflect giant bolts to protect their vitals while flying.

"By Valaya, it can even do that?"

Auerte-Yanmei exclaimed as he dropped his goggles, watching as Kabanha's brawny arms gripped the handle and the middle of the chain-whip, pulling it taut before using his right claw to whip the front section like a windmill, detonating multiple rockets fired at him right in front of his body.

"Zzz—beep-beep!"

The appearance of the Ripperdactyls was as their name suggested: giant serpents with feathered wings. These elegant behemoths were not suited for melee combat by their physical structure—at least not for melee with Bloodthirsters. They spat ball lightning, eliminating many Furies through repeated bounces, but it instantly annihilated upon hitting the Greater Daemons.

"What are you still waiting for?"

Gor-Rok shouted to the rear while taking two sweeping strikes from a Great Unclean One's flail with his great shield; the Bloodthirsters had already flown over the heads of the bridgehead battle group, and if they continued to break through, they would really be heading for the pyramid!

"According to the guidance of the Great Plan, activate the Creator's relic!"

The Great Beastmaster Mukamp ordered in a panic; he had not expected the Hexoatl air force, renowned throughout Lustria, to be routed so quickly. Facts proved that counter-insurgency and such a decisive battle were completely different concepts.

Compared to the slower-reacting Stegadons around them, on his command platform—the back of a massive Ancient Triangle Dragon—a Skink Priest quickly adjusted a device shrouded in dazzling golden light that made it hard to see clearly.

"Zzz-zzz!"

Accompanied by the Ancient Triangle Dragon's roar toward the sky, the device shot a beam of golden light straight into the heavens, subsequently forming a cloud of energy. Scorching rays suddenly descended from within, and the roars of the charging Bloodthirsters even carried a hint of terror.

"Mortals call it the Engine of the Gods! Dodge and keep charging! That thing moves slowly!"

As a veteran who had participated in the first Chaos invasion, Kabanha called out the origin of the device. Under the multiple strikes, the bodies of three Greater Daemons reached their limit and disintegrated, but the others had almost broken through the intercepting Lizardmen air force.

Yanmei and Yisitelanna looked at each other from afar, neither moving their troops toward the center line immediately; whether it was Giant Eagles or Helicopters, charging in meant huge sacrifices. Snorri sighed, hammer in hand, preparing to join the battle.

"Warriors, our mission is clear! Execute Strategy C and end their contradiction with the Creator's will!"

"Although it's a Skink, it's not so bad to be a Legendary Lord."

Tiketatuo and his subordinates pulled the collars on the necks of their Terradons, pulling up into a high-angle loop to turn around and catch up from behind. The Lord of the Heavens took the lead, and after dodging the axe swings and wing flaps of the Greater Daemon through continuous maneuvering, he closed in. He gripped the Blade of the Ancient Sky with both claws, stabbed it into the Greater Daemon's wing membrane, and then Zwap flapped his wings with all his might to pull upward, tearing a long gash before accelerating away.

"That's right, we should hit their wings! Isn't that why Skarbrand can't fly?"

With one wing leaking air, the Greater Daemon swayed unsteadily in the air. Snorri praised this upon seeing it; the Lizardmen had also learned some experience after suffering heavy losses under the Bloodthirsters' cluster assault.

"Get lost!"

"Don't touch me!"

The riders formed a wild goose formation to imitate Tiketatuo. Several Bloodthirsters, more favored by Khorne, materialized their rage into surging magic fire; the nearest Terradons fell with wails, but more fearless riders followed one after another.

"Ripperdactyls, go!"

"Don't worry about us, fire! Everything for the Great Plan!"

The scene that followed was not just heroic, but tragic; the Lizardmen riders chased the continuously assaulting Bloodthirsters into their own anti-air fire and launched suicide attacks.

The flesh and blood of the Ripperdactyls could not overcome the brass heavy armor, but tearing the wing membranes was more than enough. One Greater Daemon after another fell from the sky, and the pressure on the air force was shifted to the ground.

The Greater Daemons landed in the middle-to-rear section of the Lizardmen formation, near the ranged units at the base of the pyramid. Falling from high altitude did little harm to these thick-skinned guys, but it disrupted the dense infantry formation.

"Those who dare to resist the Lord of Khorne will only find death!"

"Blood for the Blood God, skulls for the Skull Throne!"

Although the great battle in front of this Star Bridge gathered the elite forces of all Lustria, only the battle group at the bridgehead consisted of battle-hardened Saurus warriors; the younger generation hatched later still lacked the strength to face the Greater Daemons head-on.

"I am the Demigod Snorri Thorsson who banished Skarbrand! How dare you monsters act so fiercely!"

The impact of pulling away the Kroq-Gar and Tehenghuoyin legions before the battle became apparent; the Carnosaurs and Nakai were fighting fiercely at the front, and the Lizardmen lacked enough powerhouses. Four or five Scar-Veterans riding Cold Ones charged up to try to hold them back, while other Scar-Veterans rode on Horned Cold Ones, shuttling back and forth to shout and reorganize the lines.

Snorri threw his Storm Hammer, sending a Greater Daemon in the distance tumbling, then swung his great axe to hack at the shin of another. The might of a demigod was unleashed, which these guys, weakened by the Ritual Vortex, could not withstand.

The Bloodthirsters were disciplined and had clear goals; ignoring Snorri's challenge and the Carnosaurs' interception, they strode forward, wanting to climb the pyramid. As for the Stegadons and Bastiladons, although thick-skinned, they were slow to move and could not stop them in time.

"Release the Dread Saurians!"

Accompanied by the clanking of iron chains, two behemoths of terrifying size crawled slowly out of the basement. Like Dragons, they were ancient inhabitants of this world, blocking the foot of the pyramid; the Greater Daemons, their wings damaged, found themselves in a difficult spot.

The battle reached a stalemate again, but Snorri felt a bit uneasy. As an expert in defensive warfare, the Dwarf knew that the safest way to face a defense that looked impregnable at first glance was to continuously apply pressure like adding oil to a fire; when the critical point was reached, the flaw would naturally be exposed, and then one could break it in one fell swoop. So, where was the flaw on the side of Order?
