Chapter 67: Stali Boots

~7 min read 1,272 words

"Filthy Skaven may be hiding in the abandoned underground mines and the Earth Vein Network! There are also herds of hoofed beasts in the deep forests of Bretonnia!" Thorgrim worried that Sinuoli would become arrogant and careless after winning a small victory.

"You have already seen Skaven in Karak-Varn, so I might as well tell you about the Beastmen!" Perhaps due to the Vigorous Effect, Thorgrim was in a talkative mood.

"Beastmen are not animals native to the natural world. According to the knowledge passed down by the Ancestor Gods, these filthy hoofed monsters first appeared when the polar warp gates of the Old Ones collapsed and highly corrosive warpstone poured down like rain.

The corruption of Chaos brought nightmares to many ancient Humans; their resistance to Chaos is far inferior to us Sons of the Mountains, which led to severe mutations. These unfortunate fellows are called Beastmen; they are half-human and half-beast, and their appearance is exceptionally chaotic."

Thorgrim opened his mouth, only to find that the wine glass on the table was empty. For Dwarfs, it is very uncomfortable to speak at length without drinking something.

Seeing this, Sinuoli stood up, intending to go out and get some drinks for his father and himself, but Thorgrim reached out to stop him.

Sinuoli watched as Thorgrim pressed a button on the table, and soon an Eternal Hammer Guard walked in carrying two glasses of beer.

"What is going on?" Sinuoli asked; in his memory, his father's desk never had this function before.

"Hahaha, didn't I meet up with Brother Selending on your side a couple of days ago? He recommended this set of things to me, and I tried it out—it's actually quite useful!" Thorgrim said with a laugh.

"Willing to let technology enter his life; it seems Father's level of open-mindedness is slightly higher than I expected. The reason it wasn't obvious before might be due to the immense pressure from the conservative faction," Sinuoli thought to himself.

The father and son clinked glasses, and Thorgrim continued to introduce the Beastmen to Sinuoli.

"Beastmen are generally divided into two categories: Ungors and Gors. Ungors are a twisted breed, combining the worst qualities of both humans and beasts;

Gors are a more robust branch of the Beastmen, similar to the result of piecing together and blending certain powerful animals and humans. These hoofed creatures are happy to accept their Chaos nature—possessing intelligence that does not lose to our Human friends, yet acting as cunningly as beasts."

"I know these, Father. I also know that their truly powerful threats are not these, but Minotaurs, Ghorgons, and those other twisted creations," Sinuoli responded.

"It seems you have been studying quite a bit lately! When you were young and in school, you had absolutely no interest in these things!"

Thorgrim seemed very happy; he did not want his son to only sit in the workshop engraving Runes. Sinuoli wielding Rune Power to provide support for his kin on the battlefield was what he wanted to see.

After a brief conversation, Sinuoli returned to his room in the Clan. Just as Thorgrim had said, he had to make sufficient preparations for this journey. Pushing open the door, he found two Dwarfs waiting for him.

Judging by the marks on their Shields and helmets, they were Anvil Guards of Krag Master.

"Krag Master ordered us to bring this to you!" As they spoke, the two Dwarfs handed a box to Sinuoli and then turned and headed straight for the door.

"It seems my master was indeed moved after witnessing the divine grace!" Sinuoli thought, while his mouth kept moving:

"Two warriors, don't be in such a hurry to leave, sit down and have a beer! Does Master have any words for me?"

"Not necessary!"

"Don't know, if there are any, they are in the box!"

The temper of Krag Master's Anvil Guards was as stubborn as his own. After dropping these words, they left directly.

"Sigh, these guys, I'm afraid only Sidemunier could change their foul tempers!" Sinuoli shook his head and pulled the door shut.

He couldn't wait to open the box; he was quite looking forward to this gift from the greatest Rune Master of the age.

Upon opening it, Sinuoli's expression couldn't help but turn a bit strange. Inside lay a pair of boots, a pair of Legendary Quality boots engraved with three Runes. Coincidentally, he also knew the origin of these boots.

These boots were called Stali Boots, one of the few pieces of equipment passed down to this day that can be clearly identified as coming from the hands of the Rune Smith God, Thurni.

You must know that in Dwarf society, many Legendary or even Exquisite Quality pieces of equipment are attributed to the hands of the Ancestor Gods, but in reality, some only had the Ancestor Gods complete one of the steps, such as casting the blank or participating in the quenching.

This situation is still considered good, as there was at least some participation from the Ancestor Gods in the casting process, but others are weapons of the Ancestor Gods imitated by certain Rune Masters, or lost Artifacts recovered by expeditions from lost citadels without specific records, which are directly claimed to be the work of an Ancestor God to increase their value.

Just like the Dwarf God of War Gelimu, as far as Sinuoli knows, there are no fewer than ten Battle Axes in the entire Mountain Kingdom that bear his name. But obviously, no matter how capable this God of War is at fighting, he couldn't possibly wield that many axes.

The reason these boots are famous throughout the circle of Rune Users is because when Thurni made them, he creatively split three Runes in half and engraved them on the two feet of the boots, and used special techniques to connect them so they could function normally.

Such a technique has been attempted to be imitated by almost every Rune Master of later generations, but those who could succeed were few and far between, and the so-called success was merely engraving an ordinary Rune on the surface.

The reason Thurni went to such great lengths to do this goes back to the beginning of the world.

When Gelimu and his son Mogelimu were slaying the Dragon Drakxion for Thurni, these three Ancestor Gods discovered they needed a warrior with superb skills to lure the world's first dragon out of its heavily guarded dragon lair, which was filled with its own powerful offspring.

This was undoubtedly an extremely dangerous mission. The Dragon Drakxion had wings, and its offspring also had the ability to fly. For a race like the Dwarfs, which is not naturally fast, how to tease it into leaving the lair a sufficient distance without letting it give up the chase was almost unimaginable.

For this reason, the three Ancestor Gods sought out the most brilliant Ranger of the time—Stali, who bravely accepted the task, with the reward being that Thurni would personally craft a piece of equipment for him after the deed was done.

Stali did not fail the expectations of the gods; he skillfully used the traps he had set along the way, the ballistae with tightened bowstrings, and the locations convenient for hiding to successfully complete the mission, and Thurni also fulfilled his promise.

Thanks to ArtoriasW for the monthly ticket, the Qidian event, and the book friends' monthly tickets. Adding a chapter tonight.

It's not that I'm not working hard during the National Day, the school only gives three days off, and there is research that needs to be concluded.
