Chapter 157: Divining Modian
"Kingdom of Disorder," Ninglu's right hand rubbed the three-sided die in his palm.
He could feel that he had established a certain connection with the Prophecy Dice, a mystical connection.
He was vaguely yet certainly aware that the die in his hand was the Magical Item corresponding to the "Soothsayer" of the "Hermit" pathway, Sequence 3.
The vagueness lay in the fact that he only knew this stemmed from his connection to the Prophecy Dice, but could not clearly perceive how to confirm it through that connection.
The certainty lay in his ability to confirm that the Prophecy Dice definitely corresponded to "Soothsayer," rather than the "Fool" pathway or the "Prophet" of the "White Tower" pathway, Sequence 4.
After the Primarch toyed with and studied it for a moment to no avail, he pondered to himself.
【The root of the connection should be the rules; perhaps only when I advance to the middle sequences will I be able to glimpse its essence.】
Ninglu gave up on further exploration and began to consider the target for his Divination.
【As of now, I have not received a report from Sanchez.
It is possible he has not yet conquered Tanis, or perhaps he has just sent an astropathic communication.
It is impossible for him to return in a short time; Divination on Catachan would be slightly wasteful.】
The worlds he knew of that the Imperium had not yet discovered flashed rapidly through his mind.
Walhalla, Venturian...
The Primarch conducted a high-speed analysis of these worlds, their characteristics, and whether they were suitable for the traits of a certain Chapter.
A moment later, a name paused in his mind: Modian.
【Bukayo Arshavin has successively discovered the Daxos Binary System and Sepra Mundi; he deserves a reward.
Modian is well-suited for the "Darkness" pathway, to serve as a recruitment ground for the Third Legion.
Moreover, Modian is relatively close to Sepra Mundi on the galactic Star Map and can serve as a strategic world to guard the entire region.】
Ninglu reached this thought and made his decision.
The information he knew about Modian flashed rapidly through his mind.
【Obscurus Sector, Modian System, Modian Prime.
Modian's rotation period and orbital period are the same, so half of the planet is forever in darkness, while the other half is scorched by the sun.
All life survives on the dark side; Modian is therefore also known as the "Eternal Night World."
Because the planet lacks rotation, there is no Coriolis effect, which prevents the formation of any strong winds, resulting in a thick and dark atmosphere.
...】
After everything Ninglu knew about Modian flashed through his mind, he recited silently in his heart.
【The Star Map from Sepra Mundi to Modian.
The Star Map from Sepra Mundi to Modian.
...】
After reciting it eleven times, he reached out and threw the Prophecy Dice in his hand.
After the three-sided die tumbled in the air several times, it fell, and the moment it landed in Ninglu's outstretched palm, a scene resembling a holographic projection unfolded before his eyes.
In the scene, the stars were spread out.
In the bent "long snake," the head was a metal sphere filled with dense, colorful threads, like a ball of yarn.
The tail was a sphere, half of which was brilliantly radiant, while the other half was pitch black without a trace of light.
While the Primarch committed the Star Map to memory, he also used the knowledge of the divination school he had mastered to interpret it:
The metal sphere is Sepra Mundi, which stems from the local industrial base; it can rapidly grow in the short term into a Forge World with powerful production capacity, becoming a shipyard comparable to Mars.
The dense colorful threads are the Warp Routes intersecting at Sepra Mundi; in his memory, this world, which will be chosen by the Imperial Navy as a base for the Obscurus Sector, possesses a unique geographical location.
The light-and-dark sphere symbolizes Modian, which is forever half-light and half-dark.
Ninglu then returned to the real world and, relying on his superhuman memory, reconstructed the Star Map and recorded it onto a Data Slate.
It would be sent to the Third Legion along with the supply fleet.
Subsequently, the Primarch found Diana Polin, who was in full military attire and commanding the ship.
"Your performance is worthy of praise; I wish to grant you a reward. Follow me."
"My Lord, it is my honor to serve you."
As the female captain spoke, the space battle against the Aeldari Craftworld in the Vigilance System not long ago flashed through her mind.
The scene where the Primarch saw through the Eldar light-cluster illusions during that battle and tore the enemy ship apart.
【Only a Primarch possesses such superhuman abilities.】
Just as Diana marveled in her heart, Ninglu said with a smile.
"This is also for my own sake; finding a suitable captain to pilot my ship is no easy task, and I do not wish to lose you."
Hearing that she was needed by the Primarch, a brilliance erupted in the female captain's eyes.
【Yes! The Primarch needs someone to manage the various affairs of the Shadow of Sovereignty, needs someone to liaise with other fleets, and needs someone to coordinate officers of all ranks.
Ordinary enemies do not require him to command personally.
He should devote his energy to more important matters.】
Diana followed the Primarch toward his palace, walked past the training deck on the outermost layer of the palace, and arrived at the first floor.
Two honor guards stood before the black gate; seeing the Gene-Father approach, they bowed in salute.
Ninglu pressed his palm against the panel; the identification runes flickered, and the black alloy gate slowly opened.
The Primarch brought Diana to the area where the Ring Weapons were stored. "The Ring Weapons made by the space monkeys; you may choose as you please. Wearing them on all ten fingers like Arsena is also fine."
The female captain did not retreat and immediately began to choose.
Ninglu's black eyes swept across his armory; the Ring Weapons, Protective Orbs, and Spy Flies made by the space monkeys filled one-third of this massive treasure vault.
【The output of the space monkeys is indeed high, yet no special surprises have appeared. Perhaps the "program" the Old Ones implanted in them makes manufacturing conventional products the norm.
Relying on luck, I do not know how long it will take to obtain a valuable item.】
Fortunately, another space ape has become pregnant; once the new infant is born and a bond is established, he can be designated for targeted research, starting with Ape Field technology.
While Ninglu was deep in thought, Diana, just as the Primarch had said, selected Rings and filled her slender fingers with them.
The blonde female captain walked before the Primarch, "Thank you for your gift, my lord. I once saw a great noble wearing precious Rings in a tavern on Sabadia; I never imagined that one day I would have my hands full of them."
Her blue-green eyes shimmered: "I never expected that your private armory would be stocked with so many Ring Weapons."
Ninglu raised his left hand, pointing to the area where the Protective Orbs were stored.
"You may also choose any Protective Orbs you wish," he paused for a moment before saying, "as you said, they are just decorations sitting here."
"I have decided to take a portion and bestow them upon the ship's officers who perform with excellence; you shall set the standards."
The Primarch also decided to have the Primarch Attendant establish a system of standards to reward the administrative officials of various worlds, the Treasure Hunting Squads, and the Auxilia.
This would not only enhance their ability to protect themselves but also increase their loyalty to him through these rewards.
Upon hearing this, Diana looked at the Primarch with reverence.
"On behalf of all the officers, I thank you for your generosity."
"Serving you is our honor and duty; you do not need to bestow any rewards."
Afterward, Ninglu returned to the Bridge with the female captain.
The Shadow of Sovereignty returned to the Vostonia system after five weeks of ship travel time.
While the ship was sailing toward the Vostonia Xinggang, Arsena Dunn came before the Command Throne.
"My lord, there is a report that was not submitted to you, but I believe it is worth noting."
Ninglu tapped his fingers lightly on the seat, "Speak."
"The Transport Ship Groningen completed the Second Legion's supply mission and was carrying a gift for you on its return voyage—a ship full of interesting creatures raised by Orcs."
"After the Groningen jumped out of the Warp, it did not head to the Xinggang and ignored all communication signals."
"The Auxilia sent to investigate have all lost contact; the voice communications they sent back were filled with screams and roars."
The "Deduction Scholar" had deep eyes, and he spoke with a certain tone.
"I believe the creatures carried by the Groningen met with an accident during the voyage and require your personal intervention."
