Chapter 164: Conquering Modian

~8 min read 1,600 words

The assembly point chosen by Samir was several plazas in the center of the Modian capital, where elite Warriors gathered.

The First Captain judged that the Four Emperors would gather their forces there.

To prove he was more suitable to serve as Chapter Master than Bukayo, Samir decided to lead a team personally to kill the Four Emperors.

The Order of Iron of the Modians and the sturdy defensive lines mentioned in the Chapter briefing were not worth mentioning in the eyes of the First Captain.

Samir believed that he and his Warriors could crush the Modians.

Even if it meant paying a slight price, it was worth it.

Before stepping into the Drop Pod, the First Captain closed the Chapter's command channel and issued orders on the First Company's command channel.

"Move out! Decapitate the target, the Four Emperors of Modian!"

The black Drop Pod dragged a glaring light as it fell rapidly toward Vanandra.

The defensive system of the Modian capital operated at full capacity; missiles and rockets soared into the sky, and anti-aircraft artillery roared, intercepting the glaring meteors falling from the air.

Boom!

The Drop Pod fell at an extremely high speed, making it difficult for the Modian anti-aircraft fire to hit.

The capital's air defense Commander immediately adjusted the strategy, conducting centralized attacks while launching saturation attacks on several targets.

The first Drop Pod was hit by several anti-aircraft missiles simultaneously, and a squad of Order Shadow was torn into fragments.

Above the orbit, the Dark Lord witnessed three Drop Pods being destroyed during their descent.

His black eyes were filled with flames of anger; the Modian capital's anti-aircraft fire was dense, and air-dropping to Vanandra was foolish, while attacking the fortifications was even more foolish.

Sensing his anger, his strong-brain cat also tensed its body.

Bukayo picked up the communicator on the command console and asked coldly in the command channel.

"Samir, I haven't issued an order yet, yet you dare to act without authorization."

Responding to him was the silence of the communication channel; Bukayo hung the communicator back heavily.

The Dark Lord immediately calmed down from his anger and began to think of countermeasures.

His combat deployment had been sabotaged by the First Captain's deliberate premature action, and a new strategy had to be planned.

Bukayo decided to utilize Samir's surprise attack to launch a new offensive.

Battlefield data surged in his mind: enemy fire deployments captured by the scanning array, the combat capability of the First Company, the offensive posture of the surrounding pyramids...

The strong-brain cat accelerated his speed of analyzing the war situation, and after synthesizing the information, the Dark Lord issued an order.

"The Second Company and the Fourth Company will immediately launch an attack on Vanandra to attract the garrison's fire."

The Dark Lord led his honor guard toward the Drop Pod; even if Samir launched an attack foolishly, he was still a powerful Warrior.

His First Company would inevitably deal a heavy blow to the enemy, and Bukayo would use the opportunity he created, while the mission of the other four companies was to attract the attention of the garrison.

Landing on the ground, Samir found himself plunged into an ocean of the garrison's defenses.

The Modians relied on constructed three-dimensional defensive fortifications; snipers in towers fired precisely from a commanding height, bastion guards fired dense barrages of bullets, and enemy forces in bunkers launched insidious sneak attacks...

They cut the battlefield into independent units, preventing the squads of the First Company from regrouping.

Red lasers shot out from the bunkers of the Modian soldiers, and the horizontally pouring crimson rain left no room for the Order Shadow to dodge.

When Samir found the guard members of another drop pod, he had already been hit four times, located on his greaves, leg armor, chest armor, and helmet.

The First Captain was glad that the beams did not hit his eyepiece, and he immediately raised his Bolter Pistol to fire at the enemy.

One of the Modian soldiers was hit, and the huge impact force sent him spinning in place.

Samir crashed into a bunker, bullets ricocheting off his layered armor; the chain axe in his hand roared, and every swing was an impeccable, lethal attack.

The First Captain found that the Modian attacks could not match the strength of the Astartes, but they were not crushed by the savage attacks of the black-armored Warriors; they relied on the fortifications to conduct stubborn resistance.

The huge sacrifices of the Modians also achieved results, as the guard members following him fell one by one.

Samir was surprised to find that two squads had actually lost three Astartes.

【The Gene-Father choosing Modian as a recruitment world for the Third Legion was indeed insightful.

It was reasonable for Bukayo not to want to conduct urban warfare.】

Although the First Captain was in Shock, he had no way back; he had defied the Chapter Master's order, and he had to seize the opportunity to prove himself.

Samir spoke on the First Company's command channel: "Report target location."

The First Captain then saw two marked runes light up on his tactical helmet, one from the Lieutenant and the other from the Captain of the assault squad.

Samir discovered that the two targets were 2.5 kilometers and 3.6 kilometers away from him, respectively.

The First Captain immediately charged toward the targets marked by the runes; on the way, he assembled a total of eight squads, totaling 71 Astartes, to launch a decapitation strike against the targets.

Standing between Samir and the targets were Modian Warriors wearing blue military uniforms, who used their bodies as shields to block the charge of the black-armored Warriors.

But the Astartes gathered by the First Captain and the Lieutenant exceeded one hundred, and when they charged, nothing could stop the superhuman Warriors.

Samir took the lead, serving as the Spearhead of the enemy annihilation, while the remaining Astartes formed the blade of the spear.

The First Captain led the team to savagely break through the enemy's defensive line, blood and flesh splashing onto his helmet, but he tried his best to suppress the bloodthirsty desire to kill.

Samir led two guard units to charge into the pyramid-shaped tower, leaving other squads to guard the retreat route.

The guard members covered his stride forward, blocking any enemies attempting to flank him.

The First Captain climbed to the top of the pyramid building, where he saw the target wearing gorgeous blue battle armor.

Samir knew that this was one of the Four Emperors, and he temporarily named the target the Sea Emperor, even though Modian had no sea.

But this was not important, because he would soon become a corpse.

The chain axe rotated and roared, shredding the guards blocking the way.

The First Captain heard the Sea Emperor issue an angry roar in a voice full of hatred.

He could vaguely distinguish the meaning of some of the words: "... we... die together..."

Samir secretly thought it was bad; he saw the Sea Emperor raise his left hand and press the button on the detonator in his hand.

The entire pyramid shook, collapsing with a rumble like a mountain landslide, rubble and debris pouring down, and the First Captain struggled to maintain his Balance.

Samir shouted "Run," then scrambled on hands and feet across the constantly collapsing and disintegrating pyramid; he leaped with all his might, grabbing a relatively stable edge.

As the First Captain rolled and fell to the ground, he saw several Warriors in black armor crushed into the ruins.

Samir's eyes instantly turned blood-red, a suppressed bloodlust suddenly erupting; he saw a red-clad force and charged toward the enemy troops with long strides.

A Modian Emperor wearing red battle armor raised the master-crafted Laser rifle in his hand and fired a scorching beam at the black-armored Warriors.

The Laser pierced through the visor and then shot into the First Captain's right eye.

Witnessing Samir's corpse slam heavily onto the ground, Bukayo felt complex emotions: both the relief of no longer having to worry about an unruly subordinate and a trace of sorrow for the Death of a battle-brother.

Bukayo's gaze flashed, and the majority of the powerful brain-cat's eyes, which had turned black, flickered simultaneously as invisible ripples surged.

The entire battlefield seemed to be pulled by threads, paused for an instant by the powerful brain-cat's "Freeze Time."

"Midnight Poet" raised his bolter and fired a bolt at the red-robed Emperor.

The invisible ripples vanished, and as time sluggishly jumped to the next second, the explosion tore apart the red-clad Emperor's head and neck.

Bukayo strode to a member of the First Company guard who was struggling to rise from the ruins, paralyzed by painkillers, and roared loudly.

"Oleksandr, he is a knight who serves the monarch."

"Following the Gene-Father's orders, he shall temporarily serve as First Captain."

A moment later, Bukayo finally brought the First Company back under his command.

Samir's reckless and ambitious attack disrupted the defensive line of the Modian defenders.

The casualties of the Astartes were exchanged for the Death of hundreds and thousands of times as many Modians.

Bukayo launched two consecutive decapitation strikes, ending the Four Emperors era of Modian.

A Transport Ship from the Cradle of the Sea arrived shortly after, and for the first time in thousands of years, the people of Modian did not have to worry about a lack of food.

As the Dark Lord re-established order, screening and recruiting children of appropriate age, the fleet led by Ninglu arrived at the Fenrisi xingxi.
