Chapter 171: Kraken Spire

~7 min read 1,329 words

The Wolf King's sapphire-like eyes flashed; for this contest, he would eliminate any factor of luck.

The Primarch conceived a hunting contest plan in an instant.

"The contest will still be divided into three rounds. The hunting target for the first round is the Thunderwolf among the Fenrisian wolves, but not to kill them—rather, to win their recognition."

"If your cub succeeds, he will gain a powerful partner."

Leman Russ glanced at the brain-cat at Ninglu's feet. "Truly trustworthy combat partners are not those pets that play sorcerous tricks."

"Whoever obtains the largest partner wins the first round of the contest."

The Wolf King's aggressive gaze made the brain-cat feel uneasy; his ginger fur stood on end, and his black eyes stared fixedly at the Wolf King.

After Ninglu soothed the brain-cat through their mental link, he said in a calm tone.

"A partner powerful enough to make one tremble with fear?"

He ignored the flames of rage in the Wolf King's azure eyes and said, "Good."

Ninglu knew Leman Russ was right; the Thunderwolf was the most famous subspecies among the Fenrisian wolves.

The largest subspecies of Fenrisian wolf is the Black-maned Wolf, which can grow as large as a rhinoceros transport vehicle.

Thunderwolves are slightly smaller than Black-maned Wolves but are stronger, even capable of serving as combat mounts for fully armed Space Wolves.

The Wolf King stared at the black armor on Sanchez and spoke.

"The hunt on Fenris is a test for true warriors, not a cowardly act of hiding in armor. Does your cub dare to take off that black shell and participate in the hunt?"

Ninglu knew Leman Russ often presented himself with the image of a Barbarian to mask his wolf-like cunning.

He was using crude language to provoke him, in order to weaken what he considered to be unfair factors as much as possible.

Jorin not having undergone the Gaizao Shouhu was unavoidable, but the defensive advantage of Sanchez's power armor could be removed.

Before the Primarch could speak, Sanchez spoke first.

"Of course, I am willing to shed my armor, carry only a combat blade, and participate in the hunt according to Fenrisian customs."

Three Fenrisian hours later, Sanchez shed his Mark II power armor, donned a piece of light armor, held a short blade the length of a mortal longsword, and walked into the wind and snow alongside the Fenrisian Hunter Jorin.

The Order Shadow and the Fenrisians were all distracted by the hunting contest; even the strong liquor and fine food seemed somewhat dull.

After Ninglu said a word to Huang Laohan, he left the table with the Order Shadow.

He had sent the "Hunters" to the wilderness to hunt, and he led twenty-eight Beyonders of the "Tyrant" pathway, including Szczesny and Jorginho, to board gunships and fly toward the Sea of Storms.

When Ninglu had previously used the Sequence 1 Beyonder ability "Detect Evil," he had already locked onto several gathering spots for Potion Material; his first target was a sea dragon lair.

Sea dragons are a type of terrifying, large marine reptilian predator on Fenris that prowl the Sea of Storms.

Although sea dragons are terrifying creatures that pose a great threat to the Fenrisian, they are also a source of materials that the islanders rely on for survival.

The Fenrisian will risk their lives to hunt them, using their tough skin and scales to build Dragon Boats for sea travel and houses on the islands.

The lair Ninglu locked onto was a large underwater cavern, surrounded by dense Fenrisian krill, which attracted numerous marine creatures.

These were all food sources for the sea dragons, and thus, over a dozen sea dragons had established their lair here.

Arriving above the waters of the underwater cavern, Ninglu issued orders to the Order Shadow, who had shed their power armor and changed into light battle armor.

"Go into the water and hunt the reptilian predators of the sea."

Szczesny leaped out of the cabin first and fell into the Sea of Storms; he felt as comfortable as a fish returning home.

Feeling refreshed, the "Fury of the People" did not forget his King's order and dove headfirst into the sea.

The "Fury of the People" moved with the agility of a fish, and the low-light vision granted by his visual control organs allowed him to lock onto a target after a dozen seconds.

A fish eating krill was swallowed in one gulp by a spindle-shaped tearing fish.

Before the tearing fish could even savor the delicious meat in its mouth, a sea dragon opened its maw and swallowed it into its belly.

The sea dragon, undulating its body, immediately felt a current pass over its head.

The reptilian predator looked up fiercely and saw a bronze-skinned human who actually dared to pounce on it alone.

The sea dragon lunged upward immediately, opening its huge mouth to reveal sharp teeth as it bit toward Szczesny.

The "Fury of the People" twisted his body violently; phantom fish scales emerged on the back of his hands, his arms bulged, and he slammed a fist toward the sea dragon in a rage.

The "Wrathful Strike" hit the sea dragon like a cannonball, and the violent force knocked the reptilian predator unconscious.

Ninglu ordered the Beyonders to search and hunt in the surrounding area, then brought two sea dragons back to the "Kingdom of Disorder," ordering the Space Apes to prepare the Potion for the subsequent Sequence 7 "Navigator" of the "Fury of the People."

He then summoned Szczesny and Jorginho back to the gunship to let them advance to "Navigator."

Ninglu headed without delay to the next location, one of the few other permanent landmarks on Fenris besides Asaheim—the Kraken Spire.

Slightly different from Asaheim, although it is a permanent location, it often sinks below the sea surface; at such times, it becomes a graveyard for the Kraken, the deadly Monster of the Fenrisian ocean.

In the summer of fire, the violent crustal movements of Fenris sometimes push this massive rocky island, along with other volcanoes, to the surface of the sea.

The rising of the Kraken Spire is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity for the island tribes; the island is scattered with countless Kraken bones, which are the remains of Krakens that have been deposited underwater for thousands of years.

As Fenris enters winter, the Kraken Spire slowly sinks; to seize this wealth, one must hurry.

When the gunship was still over ten kilometers away from the Kraken Spire, the Primarch relied on his superhuman vision to see a bloody melee taking place in the sea.

In his "Warp Vision," two Krakens with dim lights of life were attacking the greedy humans who dared to approach their graveyard.

Blood stained the entire sea area; shattered wooden planks, sea dragon skin, and severed limbs floated on the surface.

The smaller one, about eight or nine hundred meters long, slammed into a Dragon Boat, smashing it into a pile of debris.

The larger one was an Iron-scaled Kraken, nearly five kilometers long, leaving a trail of wreckage in its wake.

The Fenrisian fired dense volleys of arrows and threw spears at the smaller Kraken.

The wounded Kraken let out bursts of roars; in its twilight years, it did not fear Death, only wanting to tear apart the Fenrisian who disturbed their peace.

The damage caused by the Fenrisian's attacks to the Iron-scaled Kraken was even closer to zero; arrows shot at the cast-iron scales were immediately deflected, and even if a spear occasionally pierced a scale, it lacked the power to penetrate the hard bone sheath.

Ninglu said to Szczesny and Jorginho: "You have just advanced to 'Navigator,' and just as you lack ships, someone delivers them—and they are Dragon Boats at that."

"Go, kill those two Krakens."

The Beyonders of the "Tyrant" pathway leaped out of the gunship and, led by Szczesny and Jorginho respectively, surrounded and killed the two Krakens.
