Chapter 177: Hunting Witherwing
Sanchez and Jorin began to climb Et Peak simultaneously from different directions.
Both were riding Thunderwolves, climbing all the way up along the cliff face.
The frozen peak, difficult for ordinary men to climb, was like flat ground to the Thunderwolves.
Sanchez's Thunderwolf was larger, and as it sprinted, its speed was faster than the Fenrisian's, gradually opening a distance between the two.
By the time Sanchez reached the summit, he had left Jorin several kilometers behind.
Sanchez looked around and discovered that the summit area was less than one square kilometer.
The cold wind whistled as it blew against the mountain rocks frozen into ice, emitting a piercing shriek.
The "Hunter's" black eyes stared fixedly at the prey crouching on the rocks; its wingspan exceeded ten meters, covered in a thin film of ice crystals.
The edges of its wings were like jagged ice blades, refracting a ghostly blue cold light when spread, as if they were two floating frost-bladed scythes.
One of the most dangerous dragons of Fenris, the Ice Dragon Witherwing.
"Roar!"
The overlord of the Fenrisian sky, seeing the overlord of the ground intruding upon its territory, flapped its wings, stood its crystalline body upright, and let out an angry roar.
"Awoo!"
The Thunderwolf replied with a roar, moved its hunting gait, and closed in on Witherwing.
On the cliff, Jorin heard the dragon's roar and the Thunderwolf's howl, and his expression changed.
Jorin immediately swung his axe, carving a forearm-length gash into his mount's Thunderwolf.
The blood was almost instantly frozen by the cold air, and the Thunderwolf, in pain, began to run wildly.
At the summit, the Thunderwolf dodged Witherwing's first round of attacks; the "Hunter" found an opportunity, pushed off with his legs, and leaped toward the ice dragon.
Witherwing missed its strike and turned sideways to fly up with its wings spread.
The Power Sword, shining with blue light, slashed into the ice dragon's left wing; the Disruption Field shredded the ice crystal film, and drops of ink-like blood splattered out.
The wounded Witherwing immediately realized that the human wielding the sword was no less of a threat than the Thunderwolf.
It raised its narrow, spear-tipped dragon head, revealing the dense ice crystal fangs within its mouth.
Witherwing took a deep breath, and the Thunderwolf's massive body was pulled toward it.
Sanchez bent his body slightly, lowered his center of gravity, and stood firm on the spot.
Witherwing's gaze was cold and sharp, and it spat out a mist of ice crystals from its mouth.
The blood of Sanchez and the claw-swinging Thunderwolf seemed to freeze; their bodies stiffened, and their movements grew slower and slower, as if they were being entangled by spider silk.
Sanchez's heart stirred; the black eyes of the Brain-Cat turned, and it raised its paw.
"Accelerate metabolism!"
For both man and wolf, the blood flow accelerated, and their speed surged.
The Thunderwolf sprang up, its claws clutching the dense scales the size of fingernails, and it opened its blood-red maw to bite the ice dragon's neck.
Sanchez swung his sword, and the Disruption Field pierced and tore through Witherwing's right wing.
The ice dragon wobbled as it flew up; with its body wounded, it already felt the crisis of Death.
"Flying lizard, you don't even want your territory anymore? Don't run!"
The "Provocateur's" Spirituality was rapidly consumed; although Witherwing could not understand the insulting words, the overlord of the sky instinctively felt humiliated.
The ice dragon let out an angry roar and turned to pounce on the "Provocateur."
This human was too detestable; Witherwing had never loathed any creature so much, and now the ice dragon only wanted to tear the human to shreds, even if it meant being severely wounded or dying together.
The "Hunter" charged toward Witherwing in three large strides, but his brow suddenly furrowed; he saw an axe spinning like a windmill, hacking toward the ice dragon's head.
Sanchez's Superhuman Senses immediately locked onto the Thunderwolf and Jorin.
【Once Jorin hits Witherwing, it won't be clear who made the kill.】
The "Hunter" would not allow his prey to be snatched by others, nor was he willing to be humiliated by a Fenrisian, thereby bringing shame upon the Legion and the Gene-Father.
Sanchez drove the Brain-Cat through their psychic link.
The Brain-Cat raised its paw and slammed it onto the ground.
A faint, nearly invisible psychic ripple swept across the entire summit; the ice dragon, the axe, Jorin, and his Thunderwolf were all frozen for an instant.
This instant was enough for an Astartes.
Sanchez took a large running stride, leaped into the air, and slashed his sword onto Witherwing's head.
The Disruption Field shredded the scales, and the ice dragon's head fell heavily.
The next instant, the spinning giant axe arrived.
Sanchez reached out his left hand, precisely gripped the axe handle, threw it forcefully to the ground, and said in Juvik.
"Jorin, you are late."
The look of wind and frost on Jorin's face grew heavier; still in a mortal body, he had not perceived the psychic power the Brain-Cat had used in that instant.
【The gap in physical fitness between him and me is too great; if I also become an Astartes, I definitely won't lose to him!】
Jorin clenched his fists, feeling an even greater longing for the genetic modification the Wolf King had spoken of.
While Sanchez was hunting the ice dragon, at a volcanic vent in the Sea of Storms, Szczesny also began his hunt for the drakes.
Szczesny learned from the Fenrisians that drakes named Drax would hover above geothermal vents in winter to keep warm.
He contacted the Techmarine to craft specialized capture devices to hunt the Drax.
After the three Dragon Boats were equipped with the capture devices, Szczesny led the fleet toward the volcano and discovered hundreds of drakes circling and dancing in the air.
When they were five nautical miles from the volcano, the "Navigator" stood at the prow; as a scholar of astronomy and geography, he quickly mastered the conditions of the surrounding sea and the volcano.
He immediately issued orders for the other two Dragon Boats to spread out and sail toward the volcano from both sides.
When they were one nautical mile from the outer perimeter of the volcano, he gave the command.
"Fire!"
At the prow of the Dragon Boat, five "Sailors" had already aimed hunting devices resembling giant crossbows at Drax, and they pressed the triggers.
The javelins shot toward the sky, and when they were a dozen meters from the dragon, the sensors on the javelins activated.
The javelins used Yuejia'er Arc Projectile Gun technology; their nozzles emitted a current of electricity that slammed into Drax.
The dragon's body stiffened from the high-voltage arc, and it was immediately wrapped in a large net.
The Order Shadows pulled the winch, and before Drax could fall into the volcanic crater, it was dragged into the sea.
An Astartes immediately organized the Fenrisians to jump into the sea and salvage the dragon.
The Drax were furious because their kin had been captured, and they immediately charged toward the Dragon Boat.
The dragons fell into the encirclement constructed by the "Navigators," falling into the sea one after another.
When they tried to flee, the three ships had already been connected head-to-tail under the command of the "Navigators" to form an encirclement, and very few Drax managed to escape.
After the hunt ended, Szczesny summoned a Transport Ship to send the dragons to the Shadow of Sovereignty.
Ninglu received prey from the Sea of Storms and Asaheim every day.
Initially, they all came from the Sea of Storms.
As the "Hunters" entered Asaheim, land beasts such as mammoths also became more numerous.
Among them, the most valuable was Drax, which was the main Potion Material for the "Provocateur" follow-up Sequence 7 "Pyromaniac."
After sending all the dragons to the "Kingdom of Disorder," Ninglu thought: 【The Potion Material for "Pyromaniac" has been gathered, but Sanchez only recently advanced, and it will still take some time to digest "Provocateur."】
While he was deep in thought, Sanchez's Thunderwolf, carrying the Wings of Wither bound to its back, returned to the Wolf King's court.
