Chapter 222: Fire Wheel
The Second Chapter and the Eleventh Chapter, having rested, stepped onto the battlefield once more.
The two Chapters and the knights of the Vickstrix Family launched attacks on the Orc fortresses to the northwest and southwest, respectively.
Weiershier, serving as Captain, delivered a speech to the crowd.
The listeners were not just his own squad, but ten other squads as well.
Although they were of the same rank, the ten captains all spontaneously followed at Weiershier's side.
This was both because Weiershier was a Royal Court knight and because he was convincing.
Weiershier's voice rang out through an amplifier, which he had specifically asked a Techmarine to build for him, allowing his speech and his singing to exert their maximum effect.
"Do you know me?"
Weiershier roared at them, his voice drowning out the roar of the engines.
"Yes!"
Everyone answered in unison.
"I am Weiershier!"
A burst of cheers responded to his words, but it was not enough.
"Today is a day of glory for us; by the order of the King, we shall purge the Ork."
"Are you willing to stand with me?"
"We are!"
Over a hundred Order Shadows roared in unison, following behind Weiershier.
Beside the formation, the engine sounds faded as the green Knight Mechs of the Vickstrix Family stepped off the landing deck.
Ward Hitra sat in the cockpit of the Glory Victory, a massive stream of information flowing through his neural interface.
Runes scrolled across his retinas as he observed his surroundings through the Knight Mech's external sensor array.
He had merged into one with the Glory Victory, feeling its thirst for battle.
For the first time in thousands of years, they had stepped out of Daxos and joined the battle in the star sea once again.
Knight King Campbell Vickstrix commanded the attack on the southwest fortress, while he, as the most powerful knight besides the Knight King, was responsible for the battle at the northwest fortress.
Nineteen Knight Mechs followed behind the Glory Victory, including Bowen's Daxos Shield and A'erwalesi's Shengsheng Mars Hao.
Ward opened his comms, his majestic voice rumbling through the communication network.
"Engage power systems!"
The Glory Victory was the first to engage its power transmission units; smoke and the scent of incense vented from the armor's exhaust ports, hydraulic tendons flexed, and gears accelerated their rotation.
Twenty Knight Mechs rapidly approached the Orc fortress.
When Ward saw the walls of the Orc fortress in his line of sight, he spoke over the communication network.
"Knights of Daxos, noble descendants of the Vickstrix, Bowen, and Hitra families."
"Today, we obey the command of King Ninglu; we are the cleansing flame."
"For the King and for Daxos!"
Twenty Knight Mechs activated their ion shields simultaneously.
On the south side of the northwest fortress, the Avenger gatling cannon of the Glory Victory emitted a piercing shriek.
Shells erupted like a torrent; wherever they passed, walls collapsed, and the Orcs behind them were reduced to bloody corpses.
The Shengsheng Mars Hao on the left and the Daxos Shield on the right strode toward the two corners of the south wall, their thermal cannons on their right arms roaring to life.
The thermal cannons activated, target data flooding their minds, and the earth beneath their feet trembled in response.
A blinding flash illuminated the Ork fortress, and with the scorching explosion of superheated energy, the corners collapsed with a crash.
As the structures collapsed, the runes representing the enemy vanished in droves.
The autocannons of the other Knight Mechs spun rapidly, firing wildly at the Orks atop the walls, sending green flesh splattering into the air.
Ork artillery roared, launching an attack against the green mechs.
Ward shouted in the communication network: "Raise your shields."
The Knight Mechs raised their arms in unison, the ion shields mounted on their outer walls blocking their fronts.
The shells from the Ork artillery slammed into them, only to be deflected.
The Glory Victory strode forward, rushed to the wall, clenched its touch-glove, and slammed its armored fist heavily against the wall.
The thunderstrike gauntlet struck the face of the wall with a heavy blow, and rubble fell with a rumble.
Ward let out a roar and threw another punch, striking the gap created by the Avenger gatling cannon.
Boom—!
The wall collapsed with a crash, and the green mechs charged into the fortress.
The Orcs roared as they charged toward him; the Glory Victory swung its fist, instantly tearing a dozen Orcs to shreds.
At the two corners, Bowen and A'erwalesi swung their touch-gloves violently, and their Reaper chainswords slashed into the corner junctions.
The walls collapsed, and the two Knight Mechs crashed into the interior of the walls.
The Knight Mechs of Daxos breached the Ork fortress.
At the southeast corner of the wall, Weiershier opened his mouth and let out a long, melodic chant.
The singing was amplified, spreading across the entire battlefield.
The one hundred and nine Order Shadows looked at the back of the "Singer," the song lingering in their ears and pouring into their bodies.
Every Order Shadow could feel courage from it; they felt themselves stronger and faster than usual.
The "Singer" strode forward, not ceasing his chant.
The Order Shadows followed behind; as they ran, their footsteps were lighter.
Even while infected by the "Singer" and in a state of fanaticism, the Order Shadows could clearly perceive that their speed was truly faster than usual.
The feeling just now was not their illusion.
The Order Shadows, inspired by the "Singer," rushed swiftly into the city walls and launched a violent attack with the weapons in their hands.
The black-armored knights, like a whirlwind, crashed into the wave of Orks.
They swung the weapons in their hands, launching a ruthless slaughter against the Orks.
The "Singer" led the way; it was not only his followers who gained strength from the singing, but he himself as well.
Weiershier swung his Power Hammer with his right arm, the blue Disruption Field racing through the wave of Orks like lightning.
The Orks that were struck were all torn into fragments.
A schematic flashed on Ward Hitra's retina, transmitting alarm data directly to his cerebral cortex.
Ward almost pulled the touch glove to launch an attack with the Heavy Machine Gun at the area where the Auspex was crackling and flashing wildly.
Just as his hand was about to apply force, the rune markers on the Auspex suddenly turned into green friendly markers.
Ward froze for a moment; he mobilized power, allocating more power to the motion capture sensors.
The holographic image blurred for a moment, then was replaced by a series of views.
The image on the holographic stone flickered again, and when it became clear once more, Ward distinguished the tall, robust figures from the Orks.
They were Astartes clad in black armor, the Order Shadows.
A hundred Order Shadows quickly caught up to the knights of Daxuokesi and surpassed them.
Their movements were extremely fast, even faster than the striding Knight Mech.
Their speed of slaughter was no slower than that of the knights.
A memory surged into Ward's mind.
The knight elites of Daxuokesi had lost to the Order Shadows time and time again.
Ward felt the sound of the Mechanical Throne ringing in his neural link, and he roared in the communication network.
"For Daxuokesi, charge!"
The servo motors whirred, and the iron-clad feet stepped powerfully onto the ground.
Ward pulled and pushed the touch glove, and each time, a dozen or so Orcs were blasted into smithereens.
The knight wanted to personally kill the Orc boss in the city to win glory for Daxuokesi.
Glory Victory crashed through several fortifications along the way; his Auspex updated data in real-time, and he captured a tall figure.
He was three point three meters tall, swinging a two-meter-long large Choppa in his hand.
Weiershier also saw that tall Ork; that was his target, the trophy he would offer to the Gene-Father.
The "Singer" sang loudly, his voice even drowning out the smoke of the battlefield.
Power surged within the "Singer," and he instantly bypassed Glory Victory, rushing in front of the Orc boss.
The Order Shadow's eyes were filled with black; the moment the tall Ork raised his large Choppa, he swung the Power Hammer from bottom to top, smashing it into the Ork boss's ribs.
Ward, who arrived two steps late, witnessed the Disruption Field tearing apart the Orc boss's massive body, and he helplessly made a Rapid turn.
The servo motors short-circuited due to the immense pressure, electric sparks flashed, and the war Machine tilted to the right.
Weiershier felt the Mech tilting behind him; his expression was calm as he lowered his body and whispered to himself.
"I have also awakened 'Warp Insight'."
