Chapter 47: Warp Insight

~8 min read 1,451 words

Ninglu had just conquered Grosseto Island when he received a distress signal sent by Szczesny.

He immediately boarded an aircraft and flew toward Trinio.

When he saw the giant sea monster named Zhangya, he could not help but marvel at the sheer size of this Tooth-Devouring Octopus.

Malena's eyes were filled with hatred: "Zhangya is the largest Tooth-Devouring Octopus; it has devoured countless Sicilians."

No sooner had she finished speaking than she saw the giant leap down.

After Szczesny severed the sea monster's tentacle, he drew the creature's frenzied attacks; he dodged about in a sorry state, but the Tooth-Devouring Octopus did not have only eight arms like an ordinary octopus—it had dozens of tentacles.

He was whipped away several times, and it was only thanks to his subordinates opening fire in time to divert the pressure that he had barely managed to hold on until now.

This also provoked the sea monster's frantic counterattack, causing the Fourth Regiment to suffer heavy losses; at least dozens of warriors who had undergone less iron-augmentation and over a hundred candidates were eaten by the Tooth-Devouring Octopus.

The morale of the people of Trinio collapsed; they scattered and fled, screaming in terror in a local Low Gothic dialect that Szczesny could not understand.

Only Jorginho remained by the Leader's side, loudly rebuking his clansmen and rallying thirteen new recruits who had passed the selection.

Just as the Fourth Regiment was plunged into crisis, a massive figure descended from the sky and slammed into the Tooth-Devouring Octopus's long, narrow head.

Szczesny's eyes glowed as he saw Ninglu drive his Heavy Halberd deep into one of the sea monster's compound eyes.

The iron warriors saw the Tooth-Devouring Octopus smashed into the sea as if struck by a meteorite, kicking up monstrous waves a hundred meters high.

They looked with reverence at the towering figure standing upon the sea surface and erupted into thunderous cheers.

"Perun, God of Thunder!"

"Sventovit, God of War!"

"..."

Each of them associated Ninglu with the images of the gods of Old Night, charging into the sea like pilgrims to launch frenzied attacks on the tentacles.

Ninglu pulled out his Heavy Halberd, blood staining the sea surface, and Zhangya let out a mournful cry of pain.

The Primarch keenly sensed that the previous attack had not been fatal to the Tooth-Devouring Octopus; this massive sea monster possessed vitality matching its size, and its eyes were not its fatal weak point.

A whistling wind rose behind his head; Ninglu flipped forward, and at the same time, his Heavy Halberd left a deep gash on the sea monster's long, runway-like head and torso.

He activated his Spirit Vision, simultaneously attempting to observe Zhangya in the same way he had when capturing the Mother of the Sea, to find weaknesses that his physical senses had not discovered.

Dozens of python-like tentacles swayed wildly; Zhangya had not been injured for over a thousand years, and it angrily sought to swallow the hateful prey on its head.

On the aircraft, Malena held her staff high with both hands, aiming at the hateful creature that had devoured countless of her kin.

Two brilliant rays of light shot out from the skull, lashing toward the tentacles.

Cells boiled and burned; the gray tentacles instantly turned into red-hot snake bodies, swaying in a frenzy.

With a loud *pop*, the tentacle shattered into thousands of pieces, splashing in all directions.

Having succeeded in one strike, Malena nevertheless furrowed her delicate brows.

【Zhangya's vitality is so strong; I only shattered one of its tentacles with a single strike.】

At the same time, Maria and the other two injected the Kurnikova Family's Battle Potion into their bodies.

Tesvisna pulled the trigger rapidly, emptying her Energy Cell in an instant, and a rain of curved light bombarded the sea monster's head.

The other two Assassins leaped down; Dementieva gripped her blast shield tightly to her side and slammed it hard against the Tooth-Devouring Octopus's head.

Maria swung her curved blade, carving an arc to cleave through a tentacle Zhangya had whipped at her, and upon landing, she fiercely drove her Floating Wave Piercer into the slick head.

The overlord of the Coral Sea let out an earth-shattering roar; its remaining compound eyes became bloodshot, and it angrily raised its head.

Maria and Dementieva raised their weapons, intending to plunge them into the sea monster's head, but just as they exerted force to swing their arms, a tentacle flew through the air and whipped against their arms.

As the two women were flung away, Zhangya's head had risen to its highest point, yet it was still dozens of meters away from the aircraft.

Tesvisna, having changed her Energy Cell, pulled the trigger and strafed the open maw.

Malena realized something was wrong and shouted in Wosuotuniya Low Gothic: "Quick, dodge! It's going to spray ink."

The pilot had no time to think; he subconsciously pulled the control stick and hurriedly performed an evasive maneuver.

Pitch-black ink splattered against the bottom of the aircraft, and the streamlined airship spun out of control in the air.

The pilot struggled to stabilize the aircraft; he was covered in cold sweat, as the ink had nearly struck the nose of the airship.

While the others were in a sorry state from Zhangya's attack, Ninglu found his opportunity.

He entered that wondrous state once more; he felt as if he were standing in the air, overlooking the entire sea, with the whole battlefield brought into his "line of sight."

He did not see everyone's movements; he saw everyone's projection in the Warp, the ripples rising in the Sea of Souls.

The fear of the Trinio people and the pilot, the faith of the iron warriors, Malena's monstrous hatred...

Most crucially, Ninglu saw Zhangya's projection in the Warp.

Within the octopus's body, the most peculiar part was its ink sac; it presented two opposing lights: a shimmering light of life enveloping a pitch-black void of countless lives wailing in agony.

Simultaneously activating his Spirit Vision, he also saw the light of Spirituality flickering above it.

A realization dawned on Ninglu: 【The ink sac of a Tooth-Devouring Octopus is both its weakness and an extraordinary material.】

Zhangya's thrashing completely exposed its weak point; having captured the opening, he let his body slide down naturally.

Ninglu swung his Heavy Halberd violently in mid-air, precisely piercing the top edge of the ink sac beneath the Tooth-Devouring Octopus's head.

He twisted his body, and the Heavy Halberd in his hand carved an arc, sliding toward the lower right.

The Primarch's body seemed to have shed the control of gravity; he, along with the Heavy Halberd in his hand, acted like a butcher's blade, cutting along the edge of the ink sac.

Zhangya felt its head being sliced open; it tried its best to reverse its backward tilt, but it could not control its body in a superhuman way like Ninglu.

Its massive body tilted slightly to the right and slammed heavily into the sea.

Amidst the shockwaves of wind and waves, Ninglu strode forward in an arc.

The entire ink sac was cut off intact along with the skin; the Primarch reached out, grabbed the slick Tooth-Devouring Octopus skin, and gave it a hard tug.

Zhangya's tentacles swayed powerlessly; as the ink sac left its body, its life force ebbed away rapidly.

In Ninglu's perception, as he landed in the sea, the point of light Zhangya held in the Sea of Souls flickered out.

The Primarch, having successfully tapped into his own potential, could not help but smile.

I should give this ability a name; it is different from the Aetheric Sight of psychics and the Spirit Vision of Beyonders.

When I use this ability, seeing the emotions of living beings is only incidental; its more crucial function is locking onto an enemy's weaknesses.

This ability is somewhat similar to the Sequence 5 Beyonder ability "Weakness Detection" of the Red Priest pathway, but it is not activated from an occult perspective; rather, it observes directly through the Warp. Since that is the case, let's call it "Warp Insight."

Ninglu thought about the Eleventh Legion he was to take over from the Emperor before long.

"I wonder how many of my gene-sons have unearthed the ability to inherit my 'Warp Insight'."

The Trinio looked at the giant dragging the ink sac back, his eyes full of worship; he had actually killed Zhangya, the Beast of the Coral Sea, ending the thousand-year Nightmare of the Sicilians.

Malena, who had stepped off the aircraft, walked toward Ninglu and bowed.

"Thank you for killing Zhangya. With its head, the Sicilians will offer their loyalty to you."
