Chapter 1004: Divine Child
Lei En worked while thinking.
The God of Magic would never permit a non‑follower to become the Empire's emperor. Conversely, it also needs the God of Magic's support; besides mortal backing, it requires the deity to shield it from the other gods' hostility.
The deceiver Luo Xi, the Black Emperor Ban'Erke, and Spider Queen Ros—none of them are easy to provoke.
And the greatest potential future enemy, the Sun God Ge Weng!
Longhaired Lady's divine power is several levels lower than the God of Magic's; of the four enemies above, aside from Spider Queen Ros, the other three are completely no match for the deity.
You are too weak!
The deity chooses mortals, and powerful mortals also choose the deity; Longhaired Lady's temple is too small to contain this great god.
You have no right to have me serve!
Of course, Lei En dared not say it outright; even the weakest deity is an unattainable great being to mortals, so he could only toil silently.
Freya, seeing that he had not responded for a long time, had already guessed the answer; a hint of anger flickered in her eyes but did not erupt.
The deity does not dare.
Behind Lei En is VijesCui, and behind the deity is also VijesCui; formally they are called allies. The deity knows very well how important Lei En's position is in VijesCui's eyes, yet secretly undermines him. If VijesCui were to find out, the consequences could be severe.
But as a deity, luring a mortal with its true form only to be rejected left the deity with a slightly embarrassed expression.
"Hmph."
Freya, with displeasure on her face, said, "That's your loss, ah…"
Lei En suddenly launched a fierce assault; the intense sensations from high‑frequency dashes interrupted the deity's words, and he bent down to block Viola's mouth, attacking from both top and bottom, plunging into a chaotic, bewildered state.
Viola, possessed by the deity, naturally was not as fragile as she herself, and under divine support she seemed to have inexhaustible stamina, like a field that never spoils. Fortunately, Lei En was also an endlessly strong ox, a worthy match.
The fierce battle lasted through the night until dawn.
When dawn broke and the first ray of sunlight lit the horizon, the two on the Lotus Viewing Terrace almost simultaneously reached their peaks; Lei En felt a tingling numbness surge up his spine to the crown of his head, beyond his control, and he released it without reservation.
Viola also let out a high‑pitched moan, as if two voices overlapped.
One was Viola herself.
The other carried an ethereal aura, as if from a distant void.
In an instant, a massive divine power gathered in the room and fell upon Viola; her skin shimmered with holy light, her body like the most perfect artwork in the world, and after a few seconds it merged into her abdomen before dissipating.
"Bestow blessings upon you all."
Longhaired Lady's voice rang in their minds: "Your son will also be my divine offspring."
"He will not inherit the Blood Soul Curse; his soul carries a portion of divine might, immune to all evil intrusion and negative attacks, his growth far outpaces humans, and before the ninth Soul Transformation there will be no obstacles. You must nurture him well."
The divine aura gradually dispersed and vanished quickly.
Peace returned to the Lotus Viewing Terrace, and Lei En felt conflicted; so this was Longhaired Lady's blessing, delivering a divine child to him and Viola.
"Great!"
Viola was ecstatic, rose and assumed a praying posture, her face full of devout gratitude toward Longhaired Lady.
Lei En, however, could not feel happy.
To others, having a divine child is the utmost honor, but to him it meant nothing. The deity's union with a mortal producing divine offspring was not unfamiliar to Lei En; the Seven Sisters of Duke Silverstar were born that way.
From Longhaired Lady's description, the deity poured even more divine power into his son than into the Seven Sisters.
The Seven Sisters' talents are far inferior to those of the unborn son.
However, in the future his son has a high chance of becoming Longhaired Lady's Chosen One, since the deity is also half his mother, and his soul has her divine power infused, which cannot remain unaffected.
If possible, Lei En would rather his son not be a divine child; he could still lift the Blood Soul Curse himself and raise him to a pinnacle warrior.
However, Longhaired Lady did it without obtaining consent.
Lei En felt very displeased.
After Viola finished praying, she saw Lei En's expression and was startled, softly asking, "Lei En, aren't you happy? We'll have a son soon!" She placed her slender hand on her flat belly, her face radiating maternal glow.
"Of course I'm happy," Lei En said, not wanting the half‑elf to worry, smiling, "Congratulations on becoming a mother."
"Hmm…"
Viola nodded, immersed in joy.
Daybreak arrived.
Lei En waved his hand to tidy the wrecked large bed; after washing in the bathroom, the two changed into clean clothes and returned to the bed for a short rest.
Viola felt no drowsiness; she nestled in Lei En's arms, yearning for the son in her womb to emerge soon, pulling Lei En to discuss what name to give the son, how to raise him, who to hire as a teacher, and which extraordinary profession to choose.
"Combat Wizard."
Lei En said without hesitation, "He is my son, so he will certainly become a Combat Wizard; I will teach him myself."
"Good!" Viola gladly agreed, "You choose a name."
Lei En smiled, "The son hasn't been born yet; don't be so eager. I've already thought of a name; I'll tell you on the day of his birth."
Viola gave a gentle nod.
The two continued whispering intimate words; the half‑elf gradually fell into a deep sleep. After a night of toil, she could barely stay upright, so Lei En gently moved her to the side, covered her with a thin blanket, and slipped silently onto the balcony, looking down over Lotus Lake.
It was already morning, and the Imperial Guard and officials in He Palace began their duties.
However, Lei En's thoughts were elsewhere; he was still pondering the unborn son, determined that his heir must never become Longhaired Lady's Chosen One.
Viola might be pleased, but he would not allow it.
For this son, I must be more attentive; I must personally teach him from the moment he understands, not only the ways of a Combat Wizard but also life philosophy, discarding Longhaired Lady's influence, establishing a correct worldview, rather than becoming a blind follower.
"Worrying about him before he's even born…" Lei En sighed, feeling a bit regretful.
But the boat has already set sail; regret is useless.
After that, Lei En spent most of his time in He Palace with Viola, using his soul‑eye each day to observe her belly. After a month and a bit, she still showed no signs, but the soul‑eye saw a brand‑new soul being born.
The divine offspring was indeed extraordinary.
The newborn soul grew stronger day by day, carrying a faint yet palpable power, and Viola, bearing him, also exuded an awe‑inspiring aura.
Three months later, Viola's lower belly had already swollen.
When the news of her pregnancy spread, the Empire's various factions sent congratulations to Lei En. Even before the son was born, he attracted people's attention. She was carrying a divine child; Lei En dared not be careless, staying by her side almost every day, leaving the matters over at the New Continent to Frangiska and the clone, and only traveling there in person every few days.
Time flew, and in the blink of an eye it was spring of the New Era Calendar year 2540.
Evening.
After dinner, Lei En walked with Viola in the garden of He Palace; her belly was already large, and the due date was next month.
Despite nine months of pregnancy and a plump figure, the Half-elf's beauty was not diminished at all.
A Legendary High-rank Wizard's constitution exceeds that of ordinary people; pregnancy did not sap her mobility, but made her energetic, reporting the Interior Ministry's work to Lei En while strolling slowly, with a squad of Extreme Warriors behind her and the Rick Imperial Guard on the outer perimeter.
"You should start resting from tomorrow, and rest easy for the delivery," Lei En suddenly said. "The Interior Ministry's work will temporarily be handed to Count Hapbi."
Viola's complexion changed slightly.
This year marks Lei En's fifth year as Consul; his term is more than halfway through, and most of the original cabinet members have been replaced.
This is Lei En's method of power balance.
Cabinet minister positions are extremely important; unless one is Lei En's absolute confidant, they cannot sit in that role for long, while also providing opportunities for others to rise. Apart from the Ministers of Interior, Military, Education, and Industry, ministers of other departments have undergone three rounds of replacement.
Therefore, Viola subconsciously thought that Lei En would also replace her.
"Don't overthink it," Lei En smiled helplessly.
Power makes people addicted beyond rescue; once one tastes its flavor, they are reluctant to let go, and even if Viola is his pillow companion, resistance to stripping her of power is inevitable.
"I only want you to rest for a month, give birth to the son, and you can continue the work of Interior Minister," Lei En explained with a smile.
Viola let out a silent sigh of relief, her face breaking into a smile: "Fine."
The two continued their walk.
Suddenly, an official from the Consul's office hurried over, passed through the Rick Imperial Guard's clearance, jogged to Lei En's side, and reported quickly: "Sir, Flaniss Floating City just sent a notice; please review it."
Lei En took the document, opened it for a glance, his expression unchanged.
"Understood."
He thought for a moment and added: "Notify the chief of staff of the notice, have him draft a congratulatory letter in my name and send it to Flaniss."
"Yes," the official took the order and left.
Seeing Lei En show no intent to conceal, Viola asked directly: "What happened in Flaniss that makes it so solemn?"
Anything involving Holy Soul Wizards and a floating city is never a minor matter.
"Master Ma Youfu has been promoted," Lei En replied.
"Ah!"
Viola was startled; she naturally knew who Master Ma Youfu was—a member of Flaniss's Eight-Leaf, one of TimKainanMaster's most prized students, a highly gifted wood elf who invented several spells and is very famous in the Empire.
The Empire has over ten Legendary Wizards vying for the Saint Rank, and Master Ma Youfu is one of them, but no one expected him to surge ahead.
This is good news for Flaniss, but a bad one for Lei En.
Currently, the Supreme Council of Kemiatis has thirteen members; Lei En and the Mo Du faction hold seven votes, thereby achieving absolute control over the Supreme Council.
If Ma Youfu enters the Supreme Council, the Naiser faction and the Balance faction could join forces, resulting in a stalemate.
Lei En would then be unable to dominate everything.
Viola couldn't help but worry, raising a doubt: "Ma Youfu is an elf; his promotion makes him a Grand Mage, not a Holy Soul Wizard—can he enter the Supreme Council?"
She wanted to argue from the perspective of Mage versus Wizard status.
"Useless," Lei En shook his head. "Although the current Supreme Council members are all Holy Soul Wizards, and there has never been a precedent of a Grand Mage joining, that reason cannot stop Ma Youfu from entering; it's insufficient."
"The Mo Du faction could preemptively legislate, stipulating that only Holy Soul Wizards may be nominated," Viola added.
Holding seven votes, they could force a resolution through.
"That would be outright opposing TimKainanMaster," Lei En said, not wanting to break with the Balance faction for now. "Moreover, Mo Du's Holy Soul Wizards might not all support this; excluding a Grand Mage from the Supreme Council would weaken the Empire's overall strength."
"Sigh, indeed..."
Viola, looking worried, said, "How could Master Ma Youfu be promoted? Lord Heistaf, Lady Leila, and Speaker Ronnie were all said to have strong chances of becoming Holy Soul Wizards, yet there's been no news, and instead Master Ma Youfu surged ahead."
Lord Heistaf and his spouse both lean toward the Mo Du faction.
Roni is also the Speaker of Weizelan.
If these three were promoted to Holy Soul Wizards, their positions would be secure, further solidifying Mo Du's grip on the Empire.
"Promotion to Holy Soul Wizard isn't that easy; no one can predict it," Lei En said with a smile.
He knew Ma Youfu's rapid promotion stemmed from the Hes Magic Array he had given TimKainanMaster, yet it was more than a decade earlier than expected. Clearly, to restore balance in the Supreme Council, TimKainanMaster had poured substantial resources and effort.
Although somewhat unexpected, it would not disrupt his own plans.
"You needn't worry; I can handle it," Lei En said confidently, continuing the walk for over half an hour and escorting Viola back to the bedroom to rest.
Then he teleported to Weizelan.
"Teacher."
Anxiwodasi looked up from behind his desk, speaking calmly: "You've received the news, right? It's about time Reslin enters the Supreme Council." This was the matter he had been pushing; with Reslin publicly aligned, Weizelan would have three Holy Soul Wizards, proving the Mo Du faction's doctrine superior to the Naiser faction's, and Weizelan's prestige would rise further.
"I have no such intention," Lei En shook his head.
"Hmm?" Anxiwodasi furrowed his brows, a bit puzzled: "Aren't you afraid of losing control of the Supreme Council, which would be detrimental to your own plans?"
Lei En replied with a relaxed expression: "I will continue to control the Supreme Council, but there is a more suitable candidate."
Anxiwodasi scratched his snow-white beard, "What do you mean?"
"Teacher, you'll know soon."
As Lei En spoke, he opened a portal; a tall figure stepped out, OxiRiya appeared in the hall and said respectfully, "Teacher."
"OxiRiya!"
Anxiwodasi hadn't seen the student for years; after a brief observation, he instantly sensed her aura shift and exclaimed, "You've also become a Grand Mage?"
