Chapter 169: Terrifying Gunshots

~8 min read 1,550 words

Three days later, when Ao Xiliya returned, she found that the workshop, which had been extremely noisy, had become very quiet.

The steam lathe had stopped turning, all the tools were put back in place and cleaned, and Lei En sat on a chair to rest, seemingly waiting for himself.

At his feet, one on the left and one on the right, lay two items.

One was a massive square metal box, its contents unknown; the other was a long strip, wrapped in black cloth, presumably the result of Lei En's ten days of work.

"Your Excellency, the Earl…" Ao Xiliya withdrew her curious gaze, about to speak.

Lei En stood up himself and said, "Madam, we should set off."

"Set off?" Ao Xiliya asked, a bit puzzled, "Where to?"

"Of course to Azure High Castle, to reclaim what belongs to me," Lei En said, a strange smile appearing on his face, yet not at all joking, "Please take me back to the Magic Hotel."

Ao Xiliya was surprised inside, but still opened the portal door.

Lei En lifted the two items, returned to his hotel room, immediately went out, and ordered all the Silver-armored Knights and Secret Fire Guard to descend and assemble.

They followed Lei En to Mo Du, but remained inside the hotel without going out, nearly suffocating.

Upon hearing Lei En's command, none hesitated.

Lei En called Pan Xier over, whispered a few instructions to her, then tossed the items into the car's trunk, took the driver's seat, and drove himself.

Ao Xiliya, invisible, sat in the back seat of the car.

Leaving the hotel, Lei En drove straight toward the airship landing platform, with the others close behind.

A moment later, the airship touched down, and amid the surprised gazes of many passengers, Lei En led the Silver-armored Knights toward Azure Water Street.

Lei En drove attentively, while also activating the All-Thing Sound to monitor the surroundings.

In fact, as soon as he left the hotel, he had already heard a hidden observer transmitting a report outward through a voice transmitter.

Such a large move could not escape the enemy's ears.

However, Lei En did not care; even if the people in Azure High Castle were prepared, the outcome would be no different.

Halfway there, not far from Azure Water Street, Ao Xiliya noticed Lei En suddenly accelerate, while the Silver-armored Knights failed to keep up and were left behind.

Ao Xiliya thought something had gone wrong and couldn't help but say, "Your Excellency, your men haven't kept up…"

"I know," Lei En said indifferently, "I ordered that."

This assault on Azure High Castle, he intended as a trial, both a retaliation against Mo Du's nobles and a shooting test for his own machine gun.

If it failed, under Ao Xiliya's protection he would still have a chance to escape.

But the Silver-armored Knights were not that easy, so he kept them at a distance, not to join the fight immediately, allowing them to advance or retreat to avoid needless sacrifice.

Moreover, Lei En knew that many of the Silver-armored Knights lacked confidence in attacking Azure High Castle.

Ao Xiliya finally understood Lei En's plan, "You intend to attack Azure High Castle alone?"

"Yes," Lei En nodded slightly.

He did not look at Ao Xiliya's expression while she was invisible, but presumably thought she considered him mad and offered no further explanation.

After a while, as they neared the castle, she finally spoke, "The Master asked you to draw the Mo Du nobles' attention, disrupt their hidden plans, and merely wander around Mo Du City to gather clues—not to be sent to your death."

Lei En, of course, understood Master Anxi's meaning, but he did not want to be a pawn manipulated by others.

"If we can capture Azure High Castle, wouldn't the strike against the enemy be even better?" he retorted.

Ao Xiliya shook her head helplessly, "This person is insane!"

Soon, Azure Water Street was reached.

From a distance, Lei En saw the city wall at the foot of the hill already lined with guards, and the great gate opposite the stone arch bridge tightly shut, clearly prepared for defense.

The car screeched to a halt at the bridgehead, and Lei En stepped out calmly.

The Silver-armored Knights and Secret Fire Guard halted on the distant street, not following.

This left the onlookers observing from the shadows very puzzled, not understanding what the Earl of Glamorgan intended.

Lei En stood on the bridge, produced a document toward the castle, and shouted, "I am the newly appointed Earl of Glamorgan, Ryan Augustus. According to the Empire's Inheritance Law Article 7, today I formally reclaim the governance of the Glamorgan earldom. You have five minutes to open the gates, withdraw from Azure High Castle, or pledge allegiance to me; otherwise you will be deemed invaders, and I will exercise the lord's rights to eliminate you."

His voice was extremely loud, carrying far.

Not only the people inside the castle heard, but even most of the street's residents could hear clearly.

At his words, countless people gasped.

"Ha ha, does he think that by shouting a few words he can reclaim the territory? What a naive fool!"

"He is not a fool, but a madman."

"How could the Duke of Silver Star appoint a madman as Earl of Glamorgan and give only five minutes? It's practically courting death."

Through the All-Thing Sound, voices rose from all directions, mostly mocking Lei En.

The guards on the wall watched Lei En with a spectator's foolish gaze, some even making a throat‑slashing gesture, faces full of mockery.

Even the distant Silver-armored Knights whispered among themselves, eyes full of bewilderment.

Lei En remained unmoved; he deliberately gave only five minutes, truly not wishing to negotiate.

Under normal circumstances, acquiring a territory requires at least several days or even half a month of buffer time, with the other side dragging out negotiations; five minutes isn't even enough for a cup of tea, leaving nothing to discuss.

Sure enough, there was no movement inside the castle, and the territorial overseer did not appear.

The legendary Wizard Maitre, whom they had met before, also did not appear, completely disregarding himself.

"This is exactly what I wanted."

Lei En's mouth curled upward as he stood on the bridge, waiting very patiently.

Five minutes passed quickly; when the time arrived, he instantly turned back to the car, opened the trunk.

Under the crowd's gaze, Lei En slung a metal box onto his back, then took out an item wrapped in black cloth.

He pulled a palm‑wide strap from the box's upper left corner and slipped it into the black cloth he held.

Seeing this, everyone was completely bewildered.

"What is he doing?"

"What's wrapped in the black cloth?" someone asked curiously.

No one could answer, but the answer was revealed quickly; Lei En lifted the black cloth, and Lambo's Gun appeared before the world for the first time.

Its massive, heavy barrel and long muzzle instantly reminded people of a Soul Gun.

"Is there such a huge Soul Gun?"

The thought hadn't even settled when the gunfire roared!

Da da da da da…

A barrage of gunshots ripped the sky, rapid as raindrops, continuous at the ears, and like rumbling thunder, recalling the claps of a storm.

Lei En's hand was steady, without a tremor; the recoil that ordinary people struggle to control was virtually nonexistent for him.

Flames spewed from the muzzle.

The bullets, like a metallic storm, surged toward the guards on the city wall.

These guards were Transcendent beings; faced with an unseen weapon, they had no idea how to react, standing like targets, invisible bullets instantly tore through their armor and pierced their bodies, not even a scream could be uttered.

Lei En shifted the barrel and swept from left to right.

Like clearing a spiderweb, in under five seconds he emptied the dozen‑plus guards on the wall; scattered corpses fell, and blood stained the ground red.

The gunfire ceased, and silence fell all around.

Everyone was stunned.

Ao Xi Li Ya, seated in the car, could no longer keep calm and almost leapt out; the Silver-clad Knights and Secret Fire Guard in the distance were all wide‑eyed; countless onlookers—residents and merchants—pale with fear.

Lei En, gun in his right hand, sprinted across the stone arch bridge, flashed, and landed atop the city wall.

Inside the castle atop the hill, a mass of guards poured out, charging down the slope.

In his Soul Eye, most of those guards were first‑ or second‑level Iron Guards, plus a few Gunners and Rangers, and other Transcendent professions.

Among them were also Mid-stage masters, Berserkers, Warlocks and Shadow Warriors.

At the rear, the legendary Wizard Mai Te Er finally appeared; he slowly flew out of the castle but did not act immediately, seeming to sense something amiss and proceeding with great caution.

From the hilltop castle to the gate at the foot, the ground was all green grass, with no cover at all.

Lei En licked his lips and waited a dozen seconds, until the guards reached the foot of the hill, less than twenty meters from the gate, then pulled the trigger.

Da da da da…

The terrifying gunfire roared again.
