Chapter 188: Kill the Demonkin Hunter
The explosion echoed throughout the harbor, causing panic among countless people.
The building was four stories tall; the top floor was blown straight down. Fortunately, the people inside had already been evacuated on the route Lei En led his men, otherwise the casualties would have been severe.
The rune formation was destroyed, and the dark clouds in the sky quickly dispersed.
The Storm Priest and the four senior Wizards who were casting together were blown up by the shockwave as the floor shattered. Because the floor provided a layer of shielding that absorbed most of the force, the explosion and flames did not greatly harm them.
What actually injured them was the backlash caused by the spell being forcibly interrupted.
The backlash of the Seven‑Ring spell was comparable to a Mind Blast.
All four senior Wizards were hit, blood spilling from their mouths and their faces as pale as paper. Two had already fallen unconscious; the other two, though awake, were no better, unable to even cast a single Flight spell.
Only the Legendary Storm Priest withstood the backlash, brandishing a trident‑like staff to save herself.
She first bestowed Flight upon herself.
Then a gentle whirlwind appeared, supporting the four senior Wizards and preventing them from falling to their deaths.
The Storm Priest guided the whirlwind with the four Wizards, flying farther and farther toward a yacht on the water outside the harbor; a few figures stood on its deck, apparently waiting there already.
"She's leaving?"
Before the thought could settle, the Storm Priest delivered the four Wizards onto the ship and instantly turned back to fly over.
Lei En glanced at the ship from afar, feeling a hint of apprehension.
Now the Thunder Cloud Storm had been broken, the crisis averted, and the victory was already half‑won.
The remaining three enemies were all legendary; we also had three legends on our side, plus myself, giving us a slight edge sufficient to finish them all.
"First eliminate the weakest one."
Lei En said so, then immediately turned his gaze back to the Cat Sect Demonkin still tangled with Asitan.
His figure moved as fast as lightning; with each step he nearly left afterimages, and the steel sword in his hand flashed a broad blade of light, tearing the air and dazzling the eyes.
The steel sword clashed with Asitan's long sword, the sound raining down as densely as droplets.
Yet this seemingly terrifying swordplay was all for naught.
Every one or two seconds, the Demonkin was forced to reveal himself, his steps stalling and his sword swing broken, his expression both urgent and angry.
He excelled in swordsmanship and Law Seals, but in such a rapid battle he couldn't find time to release a Law Seal.
Lei En watched, awestruck.
He was the most masterful swordsman I have ever seen; even Roger might be slightly inferior in swordsmanship alone.
Asitan's speed was slower than the Demonkin's, his strength nearly equal, his Elements all ordinary and he knew no spells, yet with the purest swordsmanship he suppressed that Demonkin.
Even without anyone else intervening, in a few more minutes the Demonkin would surely die beneath Asitan's blade.
Lei En didn't want to wait minutes; he wanted the Demonkin dead right now.
Aimi Lisi grasped his intention and was about to cast, but saw the Demonkin locked with Asitan at breakneck speed; she wasn't sure she could avoid harming Asitan.
"I'll do it."
Lei En locked onto the Demonkin with Truth Willpower.
In his eyes, the whole world seemed to slow down, the Demonkin's every move playing out frame by frame in slow motion.
He pressed his left hand onto Song of Azure Sky, his soul force igniting the Elements in his mind, and raised his right hand.
Two seconds later, a rainbow beam as thick as an arm burst from his fingertips.
Whoosh!
The beam spanned twenty meters, as if rehearsed countless times, skimming a few centimeters off Asitan's shoulder and striking the Cat Sect Demonkin's forehead dead‑on.
A faint layer of armor surfaced on his bald head.
It was one of the six mandatory Law Seals for Demonkin, called Elemental Armor, derived from the Helio Flash Cat; Cat Sect Demonkin have mediocre physical defense but high magical resistance, thanks to the resistance Elements of the Helio Flash Cat.
After ascending to legendary status, the Cat School's Demonkin further fused Elemental Armor into their skin, gaining constant magical resistance.
Lei En's rainbow beam was amplified by Song of Azure Sky to Four Rings.
The beam's power was largely resisted, leaving only a small fraction that pierced the armor, breaking the Demonkin's skin and spilling fresh blood.
Such a wound was negligible for a legendary powerhouse.
But it was enough.
The rainbow beam triggered a Freeze effect; the Demonkin's body seemed frozen, stiffening abruptly for less than half a second.
Yet that half‑second decided life or death.
Asitan's long sword slithered like a venomous snake, slipping through the Demonkin's steel sword defense, its tip striking the forehead and entering the wound made by the rainbow beam.
With a pop, the long sword pierced the Demonkin's head, exiting through the back of the skull.
Asitan withdrew his sword, returned to Lei En's side, nodded at him, his face expressionless as if he had done something trivial.
Lei En's gaze swept over the Demonkin's corpse; fortunately it was close enough for him to absorb its soul.
His energy reserves were already full, so he hurried to channel the converted soul force into the three Elements he could currently enhance—Swiftness, Charge, and Rapid Run—but the consumption rate was still too slow, his mind swelling as if about to burst.
"I can only give you a discount."
Lei En glanced at the Extreme Warriors still frantically slaying armored knights, swiftly selected their avatars, and transferred soul force to his symbiont.
The Extreme Warriors in combat did not notice their power rising.
Boom…
A huge hole was ripped in the floor, and a towering figure leapt out—it was Marquis Jiliu Sonas * Torbei, standing right beside the Demonkin's corpse, evidently intending to rescue but arriving a step too late.
"Gaitan!"
Marquis Jiliu shouted the Demonkin's name, his face grim, his eyes reddening as if blood‑shot, and with a roar his muscles ballooned violently like an inflating balloon.
Frenzy!
Gigantify!
Blood Frenzy!
In a single breath, Marquis Ji Liu activated the berserker's three core Elements, growing from 1.9 m to 2.5 m; his light armor burst apart, leaving only a custom short pant, and the epic great axe "Ogre Slayer" he was wielding, which had been somewhat oversized, resized to fit perfectly after entering the frenzy.
Lei En's eyes twitched as he watched.
At this moment, Marquis Ji Liu, after two layers of frenzy and a giantization boost, had his strength surge more than fourfold, already exceeding level seven!
It was his first time seeing anyone stronger than himself.
"I'll deal with him."
Lei En grasped the Azure Sky Song, about to cast Dragon Power Technique on himself, when a phantom dragon silhouette fell from above early, greatly augmenting his power and causing a layer of crystal scales to appear on his skin.
Five-Ring Dragon Power Technique.
He glanced in surprise at Ai Mi Li Si beside him, gave a slight nod; it was her casting.
He drew the Crushing Ice War Hammer from the dragon‑skin strap, and suddenly, with a booming crack, a thunder‑clap‑like roar exploded overhead!
The massive sound wave tore the eardrums, and formed a shockwave in midair, hurling Lei En and his two companions sideways, as if deaf, barely hearing anything.
"Thunderclap Technique!"
Lei En's mind remained clear, "And it's a Thunderclap Technique with a very high ring count."
As he fell, his gaze shifted and he located the source of the Thunderclap Technique—it was indeed that legendary Storm Priest.
"She returned so quickly?"
Lei En was puzzled; he hadn't forgotten the Storm Priest, but her speed was far beyond his expectation, arriving about ten seconds earlier.
At that moment, the floor of the level began to tremble.
Marquis Ji Liu, seizing the moment the enemies were knocked down, took a massive stride forward, brandishing his great axe toward Lei En and his two companions. Ai Mi Li Si and A Si Tan both suffered dizziness and couldn't regain consciousness for a while.
The Storm Priest aloft was about to unleash the next spell.
The situation was precarious.
Only Lei En could react; instead of standing, he lay there and swung the war hammer, smashing it hard against his own side.
Bang, the floor was instantly pierced, cracking loudly and expanding into a huge hole.
The three immediately fell through, disappearing from the enemy's sight.
Lei En steadied himself, saw Ai Mi Li Si had recovered from the Thunderclap Technique's stun, grabbed A Si Tan beside him, and moved out of the area of the overhead hole.
"The Dragon‑Born Apostle's resistance is so high!"
Lei En muttered approval, continued casting, and a Four-Ring Rainbow Light Ray shot straight upward from his hand, exiting the hole above.
Whoosh!
Marquis Ji Liu happened to charge to the edge of the hole and was hit by the ray.
The ray Tear a deep wound across his chest, simultaneously triggering a petrify effect, and his massive body fell from the hole.
Lei En swung the war hammer, aimed at Marquis Ji Liu's head, and hammered down.
If this hammer lands, even a legendary berserker would be hard to avoid a decapitation.
However, Marquis Ji Liu, halfway through his fall, broke free of the petrify, adjusted his posture midair, and at the critical moment raised his great axe to block the hammer.
Bang!
Amid the clash of gold and iron, Marquis Ji Liu was blasted outward, crashing through the building's wall and falling to the ground.
Lei En hadn't had time to pursue when a massive orb of light shot down from above; the orb was as large as a millstone, its surface roiling with fierce silver flames, continuously spewing bolts of lightning outward, crackling, and seemed about to explode.
"Whoa, Electric Blast Orb..."
Lei En cursed loudly.
This is a variant of the fireball spell among lightning arts, appearing to have more than five rings; even with lightning affinity and Thorned Lightning Armor, one wouldn't dare stand his ground.
"What is Ao Xi Li Ya doing, why hasn't she acted yet, letting that Storm Priest bomb us with spells?"
Lei En's mind shifted rapidly, activating Thorned Lightning Armor while triggering Swift Sprint, and followed Marquis Ji Liu, leaping down through the hole he had broken in the wall.
He had just emerged when the Electric Blast Orb detonated behind him.
