Chapter 231: Deceptive Report
After Lei En killed the Undead Wizard, the battle in the courtyard outside also ended.
The two rangers who went out to scout, along with the Iron Guard, were already lying on the ground. They were only low‑rank supernaturals, and under Ding Laji and Bo Lin's joint attack had no chance of survival.
The possessing wraith dissipated after the Undead Wizard died.
Bo Lin, brandishing a longsword and stepping with a swift wind gait, charged in like a whirlwind.
Behind him, Ding Laji's form was worlds apart from his usual appearance.
His previously short body now stood about two meters fifty tall, with a pair of bat‑like wings on his back, curled ram‑horns sprouting from his forehead, five fingers like claws, his right hand gripping a dark, double‑pronged spear, eyes blazing like fire, emitting an evil glow outward.
This form was exactly a Purgatory Horn Demon!
Lei En couldn't help but glance at Ding Laji; a living high‑rank Demon appeared before him, and even knowing it was a Demon sorcerer's transformation, it still was startling.
Ding Laji dispelled the demon transformation, reverting to his gnome form.
He stared at the Undead Wizard's corpse on the ground, his face full of horror; Bo Lin kept scrutinizing Lei En, shocked by the demon hunter's power.
The Undead Wizard was also a Wizard, and a high‑rank Wizard at that, yet was cut down in an instant.
"This guy's power is terrifying."
Both of them thought that.
Lei En had no desire to explain to them; gripping his silver sword, he entered the adjacent alchemy chamber, and a thick scent of potions mixed with foul stench hit his nose, making him furrow his brows.
The alchemy chamber was spacious, apparently converted from a great hall.
Materials were piled everywhere, and on the alchemy table at the center, vessels were undergoing fusion reactions, emitting a gurgling sound.
However, the most horrifying sight was a row of large iron cages in the corner.
The iron cages were divided into several cells, each holding a human; they were ragged, all robust adult men, but in terrible condition, as if struck by the most horrific disease, flesh and blood blurred, faces swollen, and nauseating crimson pus oozed from their seven orifices.
These people had long lost self‑awareness, like walking corpses.
They shuffled mindlessly within the cells, and when Lei En and his companions entered, they barked toward the three of them like mad dogs that smelled blood, spitting blood, their hands clawing desperately out of the cage.
Ding Laji, seeing the scene, couldn't help but turn pale and whispered, "They've been turned into zombies."
Lei En nodded.
Zombies are the lowest‑rank undead creatures; their blood and bodily fluids are highly contagious, and ordinary people who come into contact, if their resistance is insufficient and they receive no Divine Technique detox treatment, first fall gravely ill, then die, and within minutes resurrect as another zombie.
Lei En walked to the alchemy table, held his breath, and examined it once.
He didn't understand alchemy, but could see that the Undead Wizard was brewing a large batch of poison and testing it on humans.
Under the legs of the alchemy table were several large glass jars filled with pale red liquid.
Lei En opened one, and instantly a nauseating bloody odor wafted out.
Even with the "Poison Resistance" Element, he still dared not get too close, and hurriedly stepped back a few paces.
Ding Laji, as a Demon sorcerer, had higher poison resistance, so he wasn't as fearful, and being well‑versed in alchemy, he went over, observed a few times, and exclaimed, "These are all corpse poisons, and there are so many. If diluted in water sources and drunk unknowingly, they would lie dormant for three to five days before erupting, enough to turn at least a hundred‑thousand people into zombies!"
Lei En's complexion was also grim.
If these poisons were successfully deployed, tens of thousands of zombies would appear in his domain—a truly horrific disaster.
The Undead Wizard was unbelievably deranged!
What exactly are they plotting?
Lei En scanned the alchemy chamber once more, found nothing else, then went out to search the Undead Wizard's corpse.
Soon, he retrieved several items from the robe's pocket.
Among them were a folded map and a badge.
The badge, about half a palm in size, was black and white, resembling a tangle of runes knotted together; one side looked like a seal, giving a very eerie impression.
The badge was imbued with the power of death.
Lei En thought for a moment; he seemed to have seen this badge before, but couldn't recall where.
He opened the map, glanced at it, and his complexion shifted slightly.
It was a map of Mo Du, marking the city's streets, rivers, and the boundaries of each territory in great detail. Red lines divided the Mo Du map into three regions, and the lower‑right section was the Gra Morgan domain, marked with a glaring X.
That X marked the manor where the white‑bone altar had previously been discovered.
The other two regions bore no symbols.
If those two places also had white‑bone altars, the three altars' effect zones would perfectly cover Mo Du's most densely populated district!
"They're planning to poison Mo Du, turning millions into zombies to form an Undead Army?"
The thought made Lei En's face turn pale with horror.
Ding Laji also saw the map's contents, his face turning white instantly, and hurriedly said, "I'll report to the Count immediately."
After speaking, he hastily summoned a Fear‑steed and rode straight to the Azure Water Keep.
Lei En turned back, shoved the map and badge into Bo Lin's hand, and said, "I have business, so I'll go ahead; I'll leave the bounty here with you, and will come back later to claim it."
Having said that, he ran out, activated invisibility, and vanished into the night.
Bo Lin tried to chase but couldn't catch up; he stood at the alchemy chamber's doorway, bewildered, not understanding how in an instant he was left alone.
The corpses on the ground and the corpse poison in the alchemy chamber made him feel extremely uneasy, urging him to flee.
"Damned it!"
Bo Lin muttered low, "If it weren't for the bounty, who would want to stay with the dead?"
Lei En sprinted into a desolate wasteland, took out the Weizelan badge, activated a portal, returned to his tower residence, quickly reverted to his original form, changed clothes, used deodorizer to erase his scent, then teleported to the castle's bedroom.
Just minutes after lying down, the Extreme Warrior stationed at the door knocked and entered.
"Boss, Mr. Ding Laji says there's a very important matter to report; he wants to see you immediately."
"Understood."
Lei En went downstairs and met Ding Laji; he said quickly, "Count, I've found the Undead Wizard, killed her, and uncovered a very important clue."
"Where?" Lei En pretended to be extremely delighted as he asked.
Dasom Town.
Take me there right now.
Lei En did not waste any time; with a single command, the sleeping castle was roused, and in less than ten minutes he led two mercenary squads and six Extreme Warriors out of the castle.
On the road, Ding Laji described the process of finding the undead Wizard.
Lei En was already crystal clear about it and did not hold back a few words of praise.
Returning to Dasom Town, the commotion of a large force arriving woke the townsfolk, who hurried out of their homes to see what was happening.
The mercenary corps surrounded the courtyard.
Lei En leapt from his dragon‑scale warhorse into the courtyard, while Bo Lin remained at the gate, holding a map and a badge.
"Count, this is my assistant Mr. Bo Lin, and also a demon hunter…" Ding Laji tried to introduce Fan Haixin to Lei En, but saw no sign of Fan Haixin and hurriedly asked, "Bo Lin, where is Fan Haixin?"
"He said he had business and left early."
Bo Lin replied, then smiled obsequiously at Lei En, "I've seen you, my lord."
"Hmm." Lei En nodded, saying calmly, "You did well; the bounty of three thousand Gold Shields, I won't withhold a single copper coin."
"Three thousand Gold Shields!"
Bo Lin shouted in surprise, then realized something and turned to glare at Ding Laji.
Ding Laji's face showed astonishment; he hadn't expected his scheming to be uncovered by Lei En, but his skin was thick, and he chuckled twice, pretended not to notice Bo Lin's anger, and shouted, "Hurry and hand over the items to the Count."
Bo Lin was furious, but dared not erupt before Lei En, and carefully handed over the map and badge.
"Lord, please look."
Lei En had already inspected both items, yet when he opened them his expression still changed. He walked solemnly into the alchemy chamber to examine them again himself, emerged a few minutes later and ordered, "Stay here; without my permission, no one may approach."
"Understood."
Ding Laji and the mercenaries all responded loudly.
Lei En put on the map and badge, and in front of everyone opened a portal and stepped through.
He prepared to report this matter to the teacher.
At this point, it was no longer something he could solve alone; a Holy Soul Wizard had to step in, and only by relying on Fu Kong Cheng's power could they resist.
However, before meeting the teacher, he still had one more task.
Lei En opened the map, fetched a red pen, and drew an X on the map at the location of Pirino*Aiden's manor.
The hint was already clear enough.
Whether or not Pirino's manor contains a white‑bone altar, as long as the teacher sends someone to investigate, they will immediately discover the manor's issue without exposing their Soul Eye.
This amounts to a kind of indirect report!
