Chapter 53: Vampire

~11 min read 2,179 words

The two came around the street corner to the front of the building.

Lei En noticed a sign hanging on the door: "Laofulun High-End Clothing Store." So it was a clothing store, he thought — quite large and clearly upscale, something like a luxury brand boutique from his previous life.

The clothing store's front door was tightly shut. Roger walked over with a swagger, formed hand seals, and sent out a pulse of soul power.

With a click, the door opened by itself.

He took the lead and walked in, sniffed the air to get his bearings, quickly crossed the clothing store's lobby, made several turns, and finally stopped outside a warehouse door.

Lei En listened carefully — there were two heartbeats inside the warehouse.

Roger's pupils contracted and dilated; his apricot-yellow eyes gave off a faint glow in the dark night, standing upright like a cat's eyes. He carefully cast a spell to unlock the warehouse door, pushed it open a crack, and with a flash of his figure, charged inside.

A soft sound came from the warehouse, then all returned to silence.

Lei En followed him in. The warehouse was piled with large quantities of goods. Near the corner of the wall, a corpse lay on the ground.

The corpse's head had landed several meters away — clearly severed by a single sword stroke. Dark red blood oozed from the neck in an eerie manner.

Two people stood nearby.

One was Roger, the silver sword in his hand without a single drop of blood on it. The other person was dressed identically to the corpse on the ground — a young man in his twenties who showed not the slightest surprise at seeing his companion killed, his face blank and his eyes vacant.

"This is the Seal of Ekhi. I've temporarily placed him under my control."

Roger explained in a low voice.

Lei En had long known that Demon Hunters could use magic, but today was the first time he'd seen it in person.

Roger crouched down, picked up a drop of blood from the headless corpse with his fingers, rubbed it between them, and said in a deep voice: "These two are blood servants. His blood has been corrupted for at least three years. The master who made him is a high-rank vampire. You'd better be careful."

"A high-rank vampire!"

Lei En's heart gave a slight chill.

Vampires were one of the most common Demons lurking among humans, though they were not actually true Demons — rather, they were a kind of monster transformed from humans after their blood was corrupted by the Blood of Chaos.

The Blood of Chaos originated from the Lord of Chaos, one of the four evil gods of the Abyss, also known as "Nyaxinlachi."

Rumor had it that the world's first vampire, the progenitor of all vampires, was created by the Lord of Chaos using his own blood. This terrible divine blood spread like a plague among humans, intending to wipe out humanity.

The Blood of Chaos failed to destroy humanity, but it gave rise to an evil kind of monster — the vampire — which over thousands of years brought countless harm to humans.

Vampires had an irresistible craving for human blood and had to drink it regularly to survive.

With enough blood, a vampire would grow ever stronger. Like Transcendents, their power ranged from low-rank to high-rank, and they could even advance to Legendary, gaining numerous blood-related abilities and casting blood-type spells.

In normal times, a vampire's appearance was indistinguishable from an ordinary person's. They excelled at disguise and possessed strong concealment abilities, making them extremely difficult to detect.

Vampires were all absolutely faithful believers of the Lord of Chaos. After death, their souls entered the Abyss and were reincarnated as devils.

Devils were also Demons, specifically referring to the minions of the Lord of Chaos.

What people commonly called Demons broadly referred to the creatures of the Abyss, including all followers of the four evil gods of the Abyss.

Sometimes, Demon also specifically referred to the terrifying monsters under the command of the Lord of Darkness, the foremost of the evil gods.

Demons who worshipped the Lord of Chaos often hid in the human world, using various means to sow chaos and create atrocities. They were evil and treacherous, leading people into depravity, and so were called devils.

Vampires were one kind of devil, and the most common kind at that.

Roger looked toward a nearby shelf. From behind it, the faint sound of commotion could be heard.

Lei En listened carefully.

There were at least a dozen "people" inside.

Judging by their heartbeats, six of them were vampires with Transcendent power. The rest were mostly blood servants — not as strong as Transcendents, but far more powerful than ordinary people.

"Damn it, so many vampires — it's like walking into a vampire lair. This won't be easy to fight..."

He grew nervous, wondering whether Roger could handle it.

Roger did not rush in to attack. He said in a low voice: "Vampires are all extremely cunning. Wherever they gather, there are usually multiple exits. You just need to guard this exit — don't let any escaping devil get past you. Leave the rest to me."

Lei En nodded to show he understood.

"Vampires are very fast. Watch your defense and try not to get bitten. Even if you do get bitten, it's fine — you've already drunk the 'Black Blood,' which counters vampires. You won't be corrupted within half an hour."

After speaking, Roger ordered the controlled blood servant: "Open the door. Go in."

"Yes." The blood servant moved like a marionette, pushing the shelf aside to reveal a large passage leading downward.

Lei En looked at the passage and thought: Why do evil god followers always like to burrow underground when they do things that can't see the light of day?

Crystal lamps were installed on the passage walls, making it quite bright. Sounds of revelry and music drifted up from inside.

Lei En smelled a sweet fragrance, and ripples stirred in his heart.

Before he could think further, his shoulder was tapped. He turned his head and saw Roger pointing at his nose with a stern look, warning him not to be beguiled by the scent.

Lei En temporarily held his breath, and his mind calmed down.

The blood servant walked in front. He was tall and large, just enough to shield Roger behind him. Lei En was even taller than the blood servant and couldn't possibly hide, so he could only hunch over and shrink behind.

After walking downward through the passage for over ten meters, the space suddenly opened up before them, and they entered a large hall.

The entire hall was over two hundred square meters. Several large crystal chandeliers hung from the ceiling, casting a pale red light. Gauze curtains draped down from above, the decor elegant and full of a sensuous atmosphere, as if they had entered an entertainment club.

In the middle of the hall was a long table over ten meters in length, surrounded by comfortable luxury sofas.

All kinds of fine foods and fruits were laid out on the table for anyone to take.

A group of men and women reveled around the table. Most were handsome men and beautiful women. Some were fully dressed, elegantly sipping red wine and conversing loudly with their companions.

Others wore not a stitch, openly copulating on the nearby sofas — some one-on-one, some one-on-many, and even groups tangled together, emitting suggestive sounds of debauchery.

In a corner of the hall, a young woman with bared breasts sat before a harmonium, playing and singing at the same time to entertain the crowd.

The entire scene made one's blood race, as if an orgy were in full swing.

Lei En saw this and his head buzzed; he nearly froze.

He had truly never seen anything like this.

In just an instant, Lei En snapped back to alertness and noticed more details.

At the far end of the long table, an elegant man sat in a high-backed chair, holding a wine glass, surrounded by three beautiful women.

These three women are completely naked; only one is human, while the other two have curved goat‑like horns on their heads, their bodies covered in white tattoos, and from the thighs down they have reverse knee joints covered with brown fur, like a pair of hooves.

"What kind of creature is this?"

Lei En didn't have time to think further, and saw a completely naked human girl hanging upside down above the long table.

She looked only sixteen or seventeen, unaware of life or death, her neck slit open, blood constantly flowing down; beneath her, a blood servant held a golden wine jar to catch the blood and poured it into a prepared goblet.

Obviously, these vampires were drinking not red wine but the girl's fresh blood.

At that moment, a blood servant entering from the corridor drew attention; several vampires at the long table turned to look, about to speak, when they saw someone behind the blood servant.

Before they could react, Roger sprang out from behind the blood servant, moving at extreme speed.

A flash of silver surged toward the long table, sweeping past in an instant; everyone seated—vampire or blood servant—had their heads and bodies separated, the neck wounds spraying blood like a fountain.

Then Roger's figure became visible.

"Demon hunter!"

The whole hall erupted instantly, people shrieking in terror and fleeing in all directions.

A few vampires remained composed, but the blood servants were so frightened they lost their souls, unable to bother with clothing, naked and darting about like headless flies.

The hall had two exits: one was the corridor guarded by Lei En, and the other a door on the opposite wall.

After Roger beheaded several targets, he kept moving, took an alchemical bomb from his waist and tossed it; with a boom, the hall shuddered a few times, and the door was instantly blown down, blocking the way out.

"Quiet!"

A sharp voice echoed around, bearing a terrifying, awe‑inspiring power, causing all the blood servants to halt their scrambling, though their faces still showed uncontainable fear.

The man seated in the high‑backed chair stood, gulped down the fresh blood in his cup, stuck out his tongue to lick his lips, his eyes flashing red, and looked at Roger, saying, "Another Demon hunter, just in time. I haven't tasted a Demon hunter's blood in ages."

The other vampires gathered, surrounding Roger, their eyes filled with longing.

A faint cold smile curled at Roger's mouth.

At the corridor entrance, Lei En felt a smile; those vampires thought Roger was just an ordinary Demon hunter, walking into a trap to die.

He used his soul eye to see that the leading man was a high‑level vampire, the strongest.

There were also a man and a woman, two Mid‑stage vampires, and five ordinary vampires; Roger had already beheaded three, leaving two.

In total five vampires; if they swarmed a legendary Demon hunter, it would be a near‑certain kill.

However, Roger is a legend!

The high‑level vampire looked at Lei En at the corridor entrance and ordered the two ordinary vampires, "Go kill him."

Before the words finished, he and the two Mid‑stage vampires lunged at Roger, their figures vanishing into the air.

Bang!

At some point Roger produced another alchemical bomb, tossed it at his feet, and it exploded; countless silver dust spread outward like a beautiful moonlight, and three figures coated in silver sand were forced to reveal themselves.

The three vampires ignored the silver sand on their bodies, six claws tearing toward Roger from different angles.

In the next second, a golden shield materialized around Roger.

The terrifying claws struck the shield, splashing sparks, yet the shield stood firm as a mountain, showing no sign of breaking.

A look of horror flashed in the three vampires' eyes.

Before they could retreat, a flash of silver sword light vanished, and two heads flew high.

Only the high‑level vampire, at the instant the sword light swept, turned his whole body into black smoke, fled to the distance, reconstituted into human form, and shouted, "Legend!"

"You are a legendary Demon hunter!"

These two sentences made the remaining vampires and blood servants in the hall turn pale and tremble all over. Even the high‑level vampire himself had fear filling his eyes.

"Run away!"

An unknown blood servant shouted and rushed toward the corridor entrance, scrambling ahead of each other.

Especially the two ordinary vampires, already ordered to kill Lei En, were the fastest, and in a blink reached Lei En's front.

"Get out of the way!"

A vampire showed a feral grin; he feared the legendary Demon hunter, but was not afraid of a young iron guard wielding a war hammer.

His fingernails elongated into a pair of claws, lunging straight at Lei En's throat.

Just as he was about to grasp the throat, a hammerhead suddenly swelled in his vision, filling his entire sight.
