Chapter 797: Assault on the Floating City
Dozens of Saint Rank and legendary strongmen rose and set out, entering the teleport hall.
The underground chamber of the highland fortress had been expanded severalfold, with a tighter protective formation array; Lei En led the way inside, and the Thundercast Celestial Soldiers guarding it had already activated the portal, so the group hurried in and were instantly teleported to the other side.
The moment they emerged from the portal, they felt a bone‑piercing chill.
This is a naturally formed ice cavern, located in a gorge on the Dragonbone Wilderness, over a hundred li from Naxas Fu Kong Cheng.
Outside, the sky was freezing and the ground icy; cold wind blew in through the cave mouth, whistling.
Ten days earlier, when Lei En set the attack plan, three Thundercast Celestial Soldiers who had been monitoring Fu Kong Cheng for nearly half a year sprang into action. They left the hidden gorge, found this ice cavern outside Fu Kong Cheng's scouting range, and set up a teleport array.
At this moment, the ice cavern was already packed with people.
Before the final battle council, superiors below legendary rank had already teleported to the ice cavern: thirty elite Wizards of the Weizelan Wizards; core members of the Holy Spear Knight Corps, all at least captain level; Zhuoer warriors and mages; dwarf warriors and priests of the Three‑Hammer Legion; as well as the blood‑elf Spell‑Breaking Guard and Dawn Blade.
Each team numbered no more than thirty to fifty members.
After Lei En and his companions arrived, they opened a space; Extreme Warrior squads One and Two, together with a hundred Thundercast Celestial Soldiers, streamed out of the portal in great numbers.
In the end, the cavern held close to four hundred people.
These were all the personnel for this assault on Fu Kong Cheng, each one an elite among the superiors.
According to the battle plan, everyone quickly divided into five squads, led respectively by Anxiwodasi, Kestajin, Yizite, Lifulin, and Asiqiongge.
The Weizelan Wizards were to face Korstted directly, the most dangerous and the largest in number; Lei En merged Extreme Warrior squads One and Two into this team, occupying almost half of everyone in the cavern. The other four squads each also had twenty Thundercast Celestial Soldiers accompanying them.
After a few minutes, everything was ready.
Lei En nodded toward Kuilu, "Lady, we await your transmission; please be careful."
"I will."
Kuilu, whose silver hair fell like a waterfall and whose skin was as smooth as black jade, wore only thin garments even in the cold wind; she answered once, then vanished.
After Lei En and the teacher finalized the plan, the next person he sought was Kuilu, asking her to set up a disruption array on the Dragonbone Wilderness.
This massive‑range magical disruption array wasn't especially advanced, but it required huge amounts of alchemical material; over a thousand rune stones had to be forged and buried across the area, covering dozens of li, worth over a million Gold Shields in total, and the operation had to be covert so that the Lich wouldn't detect it.
Lei En had already ordered the Thundercast Celestial Soldiers to craft the rune stones months earlier.
They were handed to Kuilu at that time.
For the past ten days, Kuilu had been operating across this icy wasteland, burying the rune stones at the designated spots; now, once activated, they work, disrupting any magical transmission within dozens of li so that nothing can be sent out.
After the disruption array is activated, Kuilu must maintain it and cannot leave the area.
Therefore she cannot take part in the fighting inside Fu Kong Cheng.
In the cavern, everyone wore solemn expressions, awaiting the moment the battle would erupt.
Lei En himself felt unusually relaxed.
He looked at the Weizelan Wizards, his gaze landing on Perarice and Dalama. His two students had been away from Fu Kong Cheng for almost a year, still high‑rank Wizards; although they had reached the pinnacle of high rank, they were still a hair's breadth from legendary Wizards.
For more than half a year, the two had been on the Kanode Icefield searching for traces of Fu Kong Cheng, constantly competing with each other.
Yet neither had won.
Lei En had originally forgotten about his two students until last month, when he got in touch with Sanavia while preparing the assault; only then did he recall them and hurried to summon them back.
Unexpectedly, Perarice and Dalama were both near the Dragonbone Wilderness, not far away.
The two strongly demanded to join the battle.
Lei En did not refuse; the students quickly rendezvoused with the Thundercast Celestial Soldiers, built a teleport array together in the cavern, and met Lei En.
Perarice, willing to gamble and accept loss, was ready to return the Arcane Torrent Staff at that moment, but Lei En did not take it back, allowing her to keep using it.
To be fair, Lei En also gave Dalama a reward: a rune book from the Holy Soul Lich Plamon, worth as much as the Arcane Torrent Staff; the spells inscribed in the book could be altered, making it perfect for Dalama, who accepted without protest.
The two students each received an epic‑grade piece of equipment, yet neither was very happy.
At this point, seeing the teacher, they gave a slight nod in response.
The Soul Eye sensed both students' emotions soaring, clearly ready to once again contest each other in battle and achieve more dazzling results.
Lei En shook his head inwardly.
The Wizards' power naturally far surpassed other superiors of the same tier, but in a battle of this scale and level, even legendary Wizards were merely supporting characters; the two high‑rank Wizards were even less noticeable, serving only as footnotes.
He glanced at the time; Kuilu should soon be sending back a message.
Lei En shouted, "Prepare to begin."
On the opposite side of the cavern's floor stood five altars built of white bone, etched with teleport runes; at their center a skull‑shaped marker radiated a vile death energy, faintly linking to a massive energy source far away.
Bone Teleport Array!
This was Lei En's explanation to everyone: he had controlled a legendary undead Wizard who had infiltrated Fu Kong Cheng, spent three months preparing, obtained permission, and could open a portal from within Fu Kong Cheng, bypassing spatial barriers to enter directly.
However, the teleport could be used only once—enter but not exit.
Everyone believed it.
The five squads each stepped onto the bone teleport arrays without any doubt.
Lei En exchanged a glance with the teacher; all five bone teleport arrays were genuine, and the only moment they might be exposed was during activation—Kuilu, the most likely to see through, had already been dispatched.
After a few minutes, the communicator on Lei En's hand vibrated.
Kuilu's voice rang out, "It's ready, you may proceed."
"Enchantment spell."
At Lei En's command, casters hurriedly bestowed various Divine Techniques on their comrades; multicolored light flickered in the cavern for about half a minute, each person bearing at least three or four buffs, their power soaring dramatically.
Simultaneously, Lei En also prepared a large stock of combat demon‑potions, one per person.
"Drink the potion."
The group took out the demon‑potions and gulped them down without hesitation.
Various effects manifested instantly—strength, defense, stamina, spirit recovery, resistance to death, enhanced elemental affinity, agility, and so on—further boosting their strength.
Just the cost of these consumed demon‑potions ran into several hundred thousand Gold Shields for Lei En.
That wasn't all; he also produced several scrolls, tore them open, and layers of radiance fell, granting everyone "Mind Shield", "Pure Blessing", "Evil Ward", and "Advanced Healing Trigger Technique", arming them to the teeth.
Lei En tossed the used scroll and said, "Begin teleportation."
The Weizelan Wizards' bone teleportation array beneath their feet flared, magical ripples surged outward, the wizards gripped their staves, held their breath, and a few of the younger wizards couldn't help but show a hint of nervousness on their faces.
According to the plan, the first batch of Weizelan Wizards teleported into the Floating City.
They went straight to the upper levels of the Floating City to attack Kersted, distracting the opponent, while the other four squads delayed slightly; while Kersted was preoccupied, they teleported in again to destroy the key nodes of the rune array.
Before the Iola Core's energy was cut off, Kersted was virtually invincible.
Even with Anxiwodasi leading, the wizards were still extremely perilous; this was the most dangerous step of the whole plan, and the wizards had to hold firm.
So Lei En added both regiments of Extreme Warrior to the effort.
Everyone's attention was on the Weizelan Wizards, yet they failed to notice that behind the hulking bodies of the Extreme Warriors, four invisible Mirror Images were jointly casting spells, their magical ripples concealed by the bone teleportation array.
Only Lei En and Anxiwodasi understood all of this.
Ten seconds later, Reslin's Mirror Image finished casting, and the four group teleportations simultaneously sent the Weizelan Wizards, Extreme Warriors, and Thundercast Celestial Soldiers away.
The bone teleportation array's light also faded.
The entire process was flawless.
"Teleportation succeeded," Lei En told the people in the Ice Cave, and simultaneously split his consciousness, seeing the situation on the Floating City side through the Thundercast Celestial Soldiers' eyes.
The Weizelan Wizards appeared in a gloomy great hall, its walls covered with bone and skull carvings, echoing with mournful wails.
"Who? How dare you…?"
Almost the instant the wizards materialized, a startled shout rang in the ear, then turned to bewilderment: "Master?"
Even though they had already transformed into Liches, several councilors still recognized the voice as Kersted's.
It screamed, "This is impossible! How did you get in?"
"No…"
"You're courting death!"
With Kersted's hysterical roar, wave after wave of spatial ripples unfurled, countless Undead Army were teleported in, instantly crowding the hall to the point of blockage, and more undead surged through the hall's passages, roaring as they charged at the wizards.
At the same time, a stronger magical ripple rose overhead.
The wizards looked up and their faces turned ashen.
Bone Storm!
Banshee Wail!
Withering Technique!
A series of spells, all Nine-ring Technique, descended from above, the ground beneath them began to boil, an endless tide of death force like an ocean, threatening to drown the living here.
"Kersted, today is your death day."
Anxiwodasi floated upward, extending a blazing shield around his body, and with a pause raised the Legend Grade Akus Holy Staff; with a booming crack, dozens of massive fireballs shot out, arriving before they were launched, half of them forming a wall of fireballs that exploded mid‑air.
The terrifying high‑temperature flames burst upward, directly canceling Kersted's spells.
The remaining half of the fireballs spread outward, forming a large circle that shielded the wizards inside and erupted outward, instantly turning the advancing Undead Army to ash.
The scorching flames also shattered the hall's rune array, as if standing in a fiery hell.
But that was far from enough.
Undead Army poured in from all directions, using their own corpses to smother the flames; the undead behind stepped on the bodies, advancing everywhere, an endless tide of foes.
"Advance for Augustus!"
One hundred twenty Extreme Warriors rushed forward without hesitation, forming a human wall with their bodies to shield the wizards.
"Open fire!"
Xikalious shouted the order.
The Bolt Gun roared, an invisible storm of bullets tearing the undead bodies; within two or three breaths, the undead that surged into the hall were shattered into fragments.
The wizards had just cast a spell or two when they realized there were no enemies.
They were stunned.
"Move!"
Anxiwodasi pointed toward a direction—the location of the Floating City's control room—raised his staff and led the way, clearing a path with massive fireballs that kept exploding every second without pause.
The Extreme Warriors protected the wizards and kept up.
Every second, countless undead surged forward, most being eliminated by Extreme Warriors and Thundercast Celestial Soldiers with the Bolt Gun, leaving the wizards little room to intervene.
Kelaoaosi, Roni, and Kaidejia exchanged glances.
"Activate Weizelan Force Field!"
Ten legendary wizards and thirty elite wizards joined forces to cast.
A few seconds later, a pale‑purple protective field enveloped everyone and moved with the wizards. When encountering narrow passages or rooms where the field could not pass, the wizards adjusted their positions, shrinking the field to the appropriate volume, or blasting through walls to step over.
The Weizelan Force Field is a Nine-ring Technique, one of Weizelan's exclusive spells.
It is also cast using a soul‑gathering rune array; the more participants, the stronger the defense, capable of unidirectional resistance against physical and magical attacks.
Attacks cannot penetrate from outside, but can be launched outward from within.
This greatly eased Anxiwodasi's pressure, no longer needing to devote all effort to countering Kersted's spell attacks, and their movement speed increased markedly.
"Ah! You all must die…"
Kersted screamed wildly, the number of the Undead Army suddenly multiplied severalfold, surging like a raging tide.
The army was interspersed with death knights and Liches, battering the force field madly.
Bang! Bang! Bang!
With so many undead, the Bolt Gun could not shoot them fast enough; the rate of elimination could not keep up with the encirclement, and they could not be slain completely. In an instant, the Extreme Warriors' pressure surged, thousands of undead slammed into the Weizelan Force Field, the violent impact causing the wizards' spiritual energy to churn and their faces to turn pale.
Anxiwodasi was forced to halt, taking action to clear the ubiquitous undead.
Scorching flames filled the view; undead outside the force field instantly turned to ash, clearing a space, but more undead surged forward in endless succession.
Continue forward.
Anxiwodasi shouted loudly, step by step approaching the control room.
Korstted's furious voice echoed through Fu Kong Cheng, its tone tinged with panic, suddenly ceasing the endless spell; the entire Fu Kong Cheng trembled slightly.
This is a sign that Fu Kong Cheng is about to relocate.
In the ice cave over a hundred li away, Lei En gave a command.
The white bone teleportation arrays beneath the feet of the other four teams lit up; quickly, Reslin's Mirror Image transported everyone into Fu Kong Cheng, appearing at four different locations.
Only Lei En and a few stationed Thundercast Celestial Soldiers remained in the ice cave.
He took out the lightning war hammer and Soul-Eating Blade, gripped them in both hands, waited a few seconds, then directly cast the teleportation technique to reach the upper level of Fu Kong Cheng.
