Chapter 155: RAID ON THE TRIBE

~6 min read 1,143 words

"We are the Black Tiger Squad of the Black Tiger Tribe; I am Captain Kui Hu, returning with spoils and prisoners!"

"Spoils and prisoners? The battle just started not long ago—how could you be back so fast?"

The tribal defenders on the wooden wall froze.

It wasn't that they suspected anything amiss—just that the main force had only been out for less than half an hour, and already spoils were returning? This was too fast.

Taking advantage of their stunned silence, Gervas and his men did not stop their steps, advancing straight to within dozens of meters of the camp.

Here, the surrounding bonfires had pushed back some of the darkness, finally revealing the outline of the "Black Tiger Squad."

Dozens of Black Tiger warriors in front, clad in animal hides and leather armor.

In the middle, over two hundred slumped, dejected noble soldiers.

Behind the soldiers, another hundred or so Black Tiger warriors.

And in the hands of these tribal warriors were numerous baskets and huo wo.

"Hey, how did you get back so fast? And shouldn't spoils be collected only after the battle ends?"

The tribal guard still had no suspicion.

After all, the noble camp was nearly a sea of fire—how could any enemy possibly be launching an attack now?

"We found some good stuff—the chief ordered us to bring it back first, or it might get lost later!"

As they spoke, Gervas and his men reached the gate.

"Open the gate! Let the Black Tiger warriors in!" The guard nodded, ordering soldiers to open the gate while continuing to ask, "Hey, what's this good stuff? What could make the chief himself order it brought back?"

"Ah, we're so unlucky—such a great chance to earn merit, and we're stuck here on guard duty!"

"Look, it's that big thing behind these guys carrying the baskets—but the chief covered it with a tarp, so we don't even know what it is!"

Gervas gestured toward the large object carried by a few of the "Black Tiger warriors" at the rear.

It was a tarp-covered item, over three meters wide.

As for what exactly it was, the tarp was wrapped too tightly to tell.

The tribal defenders above looked disappointed, but didn't ask further.

With a creaking sound, the camp gate swung open, and Gervas and his men entered.

After they entered, the camp gate closed again.

Gervas and his men glanced around briefly, then headed straight for the left side of the camp.

Because on the left side stood a wooden viewing platform, now crowded with figures both above and below.

Three to four hundred fully armed tribal soldiers guarded the base of the platform; atop it stood more than a dozen tribal youths.

The tribal youths pointed excitedly at the battle raging in the distant noble camp.

Without needing to say it, these were surely the tribe's heirs.

"Hey, you're going the wrong way—the command post is over there; the spoils tallying area is behind the camp on the right!"

"Hey, you guys?!"

The guard above quickly noticed Gervas's group had taken the wrong path and called out kindly.

Unfortunately, Gervas and his men ignored him entirely, instead quickening their pace toward the platform.

The three hundred tribal guards at the platform's base also sensed something odd.

A squad leader stepped forward, frowning impatiently: "What's going on? Don't you see this is the viewing platform? Those up top are the young masters—get your pig-like asses away from here!"

"Hey, I'm talking to you—do you have to be deaf—"

Clang!

Thud!

The squad leader, seeing the man before him ignore his rebuke, reached out and grabbed the leader's collar.

What he didn't know was that the man he grabbed was Lei Meng, the Killing God, an impostor.

So the sword flashed out, a cold gleam passed— the squad leader shuddered, his words cut short.

Only after a moment did a thin red line appear on his neck, his head slowly separating from his body.

Thud. Thud. The squad leader's corpse crashed to the ground.

The surrounding tribal soldiers stared wide-eyed, mouths gaping wide enough to swallow goose eggs—still too stunned to react.

Taking advantage of their shock, the "Black Tiger Squad" moved.

The warriors carrying the baskets rushed forward and dumped them in front of the prisoners.

The linen covers were pulled away, revealing row upon row of sharp weapons.

The prisoners surged forward, snatching up the weapons...

"Kill!"

Amidst a deafening roar of battle cries, the prisoners charged first toward the stunned tribal guards.

The "Black Tiger warriors" followed close behind.

Puff! Puff! Puff!

In one instant, at least a dozen tribal guards were cut down.

"They're... they're fakes! They're enemies! They're the noble army!!"

All tribal soldiers finally snapped out of their daze.

Ding! Ding! Ding!

The guards on the walls also came to their senses and rang the alarm bell.

Instantly, the main camp erupted in shouts and screams.

The heirs atop the platform were startled, immediately turning their gaze to the battlefield below.

"What's going on?"

"My lords, a group of impostors posing as Black Tiger warriors have suddenly appeared—they intend to attack you!"

"Fortunately, their numbers are few—only three hundred or so!" The bodyguards immediately reported the situation.

Hearing the numbers were small, the heirs relaxed, then watched below as if enjoying a show.

"Are these bastards dreaming? With only three hundred men, they dare attack us?!"

"Exactly! Just the guards beneath this viewing platform number three hundred, and there are seven or eight hundred warriors stationed throughout the camp—how do they have the nerve to attack us?!"

"My lords, perhaps the nobles, knowing they will suffer a crushing defeat, have been driven to desperation and thought of this scheme!" The bodyguards quickly deduced the attackers' intent—it truly wasn't hard to guess.

"This is utterly ridiculous. But these despicable nobles can only resort to such tricks! Order it: leave not one of them alive—kill them all!"

"Yes, my lord!"

Hearing the heirs' words, the bodyguards responded in unison.

Of course, they were cautious and did not order the three hundred tribal warriors guarding the platform to charge.

Instead, they called upon the tribal soldiers stationed along the walls to join the battle.

After all, there were seven or eight hundred soldiers stationed in the entire camp—more than enough to deal with this noble ambush force.

Gervas naturally realized the situation.

These tribal guards were more cautious and professional than he had imagined.

So, if he did not swiftly conclude the fight and break through the three hundred tribal guards, he would likely be surrounded here by tribal soldiers.

Thinking this, Gervas shouted directly: "Ballista team!"

"My lord, we're here!"

At the shout, the ballista team members, carrying their weapons, immediately ran over.

This was, in fact, the "good thing" Gervas had lied to the guarding soldier about earlier.
