Chapter 162: They Found Them!
Gervas was somewhat moved by the death of Baron Cain.
After all, he had met him a few times before.
It was said that border nobles were the kingdom's cannon fodder, and Baron Cain and others had proven the truth of that saying.
Without lingering, after a brief rest, Gervas led the group on their return journey.
Though Fario was currently missing, as long as he was still alive, there would be drama to watch.
Just as Gervas had walked a few minutes toward the noble encampment, a mixed force of tribal cavalry and human cavalry appeared ahead!
……
"Why haven't they returned yet? Isn't the time almost up?"
"May the God of Glory protect us—please let us find that team!"
Inside the noble encampment, as time passed, the atmosphere grew increasingly oppressive.
The nobles sank into despair, preparing for the worst.
Narsy had already ordered his subordinates to prepare for a breakout at any moment.
The tribal chieftains across the way had also sensed something amiss.
If the other side truly intended to exchange their heirs, they wouldn't have made them wait so long.
"Great Silver Moon Chieftain, these damned nobles must have some other scheme!"
"Exactly! Could they really be planning to take our heirs back into the kingdom's heartland?!"
Great Silver Moon Chieftain frowned deeply—he simply couldn't fathom what the nobles were thinking.
He had already made so many concessions; weren't they still satisfied?
"Time is nearly up. Let's go ask the nobles one final time. If they continue to delay, we'll prepare for the worst!"
The chieftains all nodded and followed Great Silver Moon Chieftain toward the noble battle line.
Narsy and the others, seeing this, dared not delay—they immediately stepped forward.
"Commander Narsy, are your humans still not satisfied? If so, our tribes won't let you off easily!"
"Exactly! If our heirs suffer even the slightest harm, I'll tear apart you shameless nobles!"
"Yes! Tear them apart!"
The tribal chieftains grew furious; the nobles turned pale, sweat pouring down their backs.
But they couldn't explain themselves now.
If the other side learned it wasn't their delay—but that even they didn't know who had kidnapped the hostages—the outcome would be far worse.
"Great Silver Moon Chieftain, we never said we weren't satisfied. It's just that the hidden team is extremely hard to find. Give us a little more time—we will find them!" Narsy's back was soaked, yet he forced calm.
"That's right, gentlemen! Just give us a little more time. Once we find our team, we'll exchange immediately!" Other nobles quickly echoed.
Unfortunately, noble credibility meant nothing to the tribes.
So they didn't believe his promise at all.
"Great Silver Moon Chieftain, just attack! Kill these shameless nobles first!"
"Exactly! These nobles are no longer trustworthy. Kill them first. If they truly dare take our heirs into the kingdom's heartland, we'll kill more nobles then!"
"Then I'll use ten noble heads to raise my banner—to avenge my eldest son!"
The nobles grew more terrified, their faces turning deathly pale.
Because they knew these crude tribal chieftains might very well mean it.
After all, they rarely acted.
Though they had indeed outmaneuvered the noble army, the main reason was the nobles' arrogance.
So if these bastards truly moved, they were all dead.
"Report!"
Fortunately, just as tension began to rise in the camp, a sharp cry broke the silence.
"Commander! We found them!"
The messenger was one of the cavalry Narsy had sent out.
"Found them?!"
Hearing the cavalry's report, the nobles burst into joy, "Where are they?!"
"Commander, the team is just behind us, guarded by a large force. I came ahead to report!"
"Good! Excellent!" The nobles nearly wept with relief.
It was damn hard!
"Great Silver Moon Chieftain, my men are coming soon. I told you—we won't deceive you!" Narsy forced down his excitement and explained to the tribal chieftains.
The tribal chieftains had also heard the cavalry's report; they stopped shouting for blood. "Then we'll wait a little longer!"
The nobles returned to their lines and immediately whispered urgently to the cavalry: "Who kidnapped these tribal heirs? Was it one of our nobles?"
Now, this became the nobles' greatest concern.
If it was indeed one of their own, their chances of survival soared.
Fortunately, the cavalry gave a confirming answer—putting Narsy and the others at ease.
"Commander, your lords—it was a noble of our kingdom, Baron Gervas!"
"Wonderful!" The nobles nearly jumped with joy. "By the way, which great family is the Gervas family? Does anyone know them?"
In his excitement, Narsy asked the surrounding nobles.
"Gervas family? Never heard of it!"
"Neither have I!"
"Strange. We know nearly all the major families here. Could this Baron Gervas be a new noble from a northern great house?!"
After asking around, they realized none of them had ever heard the name.
Still, they all believed Gervas came from a great house.
After all, even they couldn't pull off such a feat—let alone some minor noble.
"Commander! They're coming!"
At that moment, a disturbance appeared in the gap of the tribal siege. A force of over three hundred men, escorted by the cavalry Narsy had just sent, advanced toward the encirclement.
"Quick! Prepare the troops! If the tribal chieftains make a move, we fight to the death!"
Narsy and the nobles moved at once, rushing toward Gervas's team to prevent any treachery.
But they needn't have worried.
With Gervas's caution, his men had already wrapped the tribal heirs in a tight circle.
So anyone who moved would see the tribal heirs die instantly.
The tribal chieftains had gone to such great lengths—they wouldn't risk their heirs' lives.
Indeed, seeing no opening, the chieftains could only angrily calm their men.
"Baron Gervas?"
"Yes, my lord, you are…?"
"I am Narsy, commander of the main force. Baron Gervas, you've worked hard."
Gervas straightened his chest, stood rigid, and pounded his right fist against his chest. "For the kingdom!"
Gervas knew this reply well!
The nobles bowed their heads in solemn respect. "For the kingdom!"
Narsy's gaze toward Gervas grew brighter. "Baron Gervas, you will be the greatest hero of this campaign."
