Chapter 43

~6 min read 1,045 words

"Who?"

The Wolf Boss startled, hastily drawing his sword and scanning around.

"Up above, you idiot!"

As Yueyue retracted her power, Gervas slowly landed on flat ground over ten meters away.

The Wolf Boss’s pupils shrank. "Flying horse?"

"It’s a unicorn, you idiot!"

Another sneer—how had the Wolf Boss ever endured such humiliation?

"Damn bastard, I don’t care if it’s a flying horse or some unicorn—you dare meddle in my affairs, you’re dead, got it?"

"If you’re smart, get the hell away now, or I’ll twist your head off and kick it like a ball!"

A hum.

A faint glow flickered along the Wolf Boss’s longsword.

"Title Knight?"

Holy shit! Gervas silently exclaimed.

Even this petty gang boss was a Title Knight—Fario Earl must’ve fed him well.

Clearly, the Wolf Brotherhood had committed countless cruel and wicked deeds.

"You want to twist off my head? I hope you still have this much grit after I’m done with you!"

Clip-clop! Clip-clop!

A series of hoofbeats approached.

Six warhorses and a carriage halted behind Gervas.

Knight-Leader Lei Meng and his soldiers arrived.

"Knight?" The Wolf Boss was startled—he knew this youth was undoubtedly nobility, but he served Fario Earl and had no fear of nobles.

His tone softened slightly. "Friend, we of the Wolf Brotherhood serve Lord Fario of Iron Wolf City. If you don’t want trouble, leave now!"

"Look, look—where’s that arrogance you had just now? I still prefer your defiant attitude!"

"Noble, do you truly wish to provoke Lord Fario? Do you know what consequences await if the Earl finds out?" Gervas showed not the slightest deference to Fario Earl—the Wolf Boss’s tone turned icy again.

"You said the consequences only come if Fario finds out—so as long as he never finds out, there won’t be any!"

Gervas smiled faintly.

The Wolf Boss’s expression darkened.

Before he could react, Lei Meng spurred his horse forward, spear aimed straight at his chest.

The Wolf Boss’s blood ran cold; he swiftly raised his sword to block.

Clang! A numbing shock surged through his arms—but the spear was momentarily deflected.

Yet the Wolf Boss dared not linger—this single thrust proved the knight opposite him was far stronger than he was.

The Wolf Boss darted toward the bushes beside him.

"Think you can run?" Lei Meng wouldn’t let him escape—he hurled his spear, which lodged squarely into a tree stump, blocking the Wolf Boss’s path.

In that brief delay, Lei Meng closed the distance, bringing his longsword down in a brutal slash.

The Wolf Boss’s face paled; he could only raise his sword to defend.

Clang! His waist nearly bent under the force.

"Noble, Lord Fario’s father serves as a cabinet official under the Viceroy of Eagle City..."

Plop!

Before he could finish, Lei Meng’s second sword stroke cleaved into his shoulder.

Blood sprayed—his left shoulder was severed clean off.

Screaming, the Wolf Boss collapsed. Lei Meng swiftly pressed his blade to the man’s throat, then grabbed him and dragged him before Gervas.

Slap!

"Fario Earl, right?"

Slap!

"Serving in the Viceroy’s palace, right?"

Slap! Slap! Slap!

"Dared to threaten me, right?"

Slap! Slap! Slap!

"Wanted to twist my head off and kick it like a ball, right?"

Slap! Slap! Slap!

Amid the stinging slaps, the Wolf Boss’s face swelled black and blue; all his teeth were knocked out.

Though he was a Title Knight, he was tough.

But Gervas was a Title Knight too.

"Kill them. Leave no survivors."

Having beaten the Wolf Boss to the brink of death, Gervas finally stopped.

Plop! A flash of cold light severed the Wolf Boss’s neck, ending his evil life.

Then the knights surged forward like wolves, hunting down the remaining members of the Wolf Brotherhood.

Since this matter involved a Honor Earl and a cabinet official under the Viceroy of the Southern Region, no witnesses could be left alive.

For safety, Gervas even ordered Yueyue to patrol overhead, ensuring not a single fugitive escaped.

While his men pursued the killers, Gervas walked slowly toward Rose and her daughter.

Rose and her daughter sat huddled against tree roots by the roadside, terrified. Rose clung tightly to her child.

She feared Gervas too—after all, he’d beaten the Wolf Boss terribly.

The girl had been covering her eyes, but now she pulled her hands away, staring at Gervas with wide, timid eyes.

Seeing such pure eyes, Gervas softened his expression.

The girl froze, then her round eyes lit up instantly. "You... you’re the righteous knight from the storybook, come to save Shelly and Mother?"

"Shelly!" Rose gasped and clapped a hand over her daughter’s mouth.

Addressing nobility with "you" was a grave offense.

"Noble Lord, please forgive her! Shelly is just a child, she doesn’t know proper manners! Please show mercy!"

"Also, we thank you for saving us. I have two gold coins—I offer them to you, Noble Lord, as thanks for your aid!"

Saying this, Rose quickly pulled two gold coins from her bosom, holding them high above her head toward Gervas.

These two coins were earned by selling baked breads in the slums—saved so Shelly could learn to read when she grew older.

Gervas glanced at the coins but ignored them. Instead, he nodded to the girl. "Yes, I came to drive off the bad men, specifically to save you. Your name is Shelly? What a lovely name!"

"Mother, the knight really came to save us!" Shelly, only four, jumped up and down with delight.

Her beautiful eyes sparkled with boundless joy; she broke free of her mother’s arms and ran to Gervas.

"Shelly..." Rose’s face was filled with worry, but she could do nothing.

Gervas simply knelt down and gently patted Shelly’s head.

"Knight Lord, can Shelly and Mother follow you? I’m afraid the bad men will come back for Mother—they’re so cruel, Shelly and I are terrified!"

"Of course! I promise no one will ever harm you again!"

Gervas solemnly promised the girl—immediately, Shelly burst into delighted giggles.

More than ten minutes later, the battle ended completely.

After Yueyue confirmed no survivors remained, Gervas immediately prepared to return to the castle with his men.

Notably, the Wolf Brotherhood had arrived in a carriage—now it became Gervas’s spoils of war.

Rose and Shelly had ample space to ride in it.
