Chapter 46: That Was His Lost Youth

Linhai Village is about half an hour's journey from Wheat Town, named for its proximity to the coast.

However, as mentioned before, the oceans in this world represent danger, so Linhai Village lacks the prosperity of fishing villages from the previous life.

The entire village has a population of just over a hundred people.

Upon learning the lord was arriving, all the serfs of the village gathered at the village entrance to welcome him.

Upon learning the lord's purpose and that a beast wolf was roaming nearby, the serfs trembled like sieves in fear.

"Villagers of Linhai Village, do not worry. Since our great lord has discovered the beast's tracks, he will surely destroy it and protect your safety!"

"Now, return to your homes. Do not go out to work until the beast is destroyed!" Knight Mi Gen immediately offered comfort.

"Yes, my lord. Thank you, my lord, for your benevolence!"

The villagers were deeply grateful and quickly scattered, rushing back to their homes.

After the villagers left, Gervas ordered Lei Meng and others to stand by at the village entrance while he mounted Zuiyue and took to the sky to begin his patrol.

With confirmed intelligence and Zuiyue's aerial reconnaissance, the tracks of the beast wolf that had breached Storm Territory were quickly found.

This second-tier beast wolf was at least three and a half meters long and one and a half meters tall.

Such a large creature, possessing a magic crystal, indicated it was one of the few low-tier beasts capable of casting spells, absolutely not a foe to be trifled with.

However, the intelligence also stated it had been driven out of its pack, which meant it was certainly old.

Only when a younger, stronger pack member usurps the wolf king's status would the old wolf king be exiled from the group.

At this moment, the beast wolf was less than ten li from Linhai Village, so Gervas immediately returned, gathered Lei Meng and others, and advanced to meet it.

Half an hour later, the Fire Steeds suddenly stopped, snorting repeatedly and appearing restless and anxious.

"Be on guard!"

No doubt, the beast wolf was definitely nearby.

Gervas mounted Zuiyue again and soared into the air, where he indeed spotted the beast wolf crouching by a small grove a hundred-plus meters away.

"In the small grove to the southeast!"

Following Gervas's cue, Lei Meng and others dismounted and moved to encircle the small grove.

Although the Fire Steeds possessed dragon bloodlines, they were not beasts and could not withstand the beast wolf's attacks; to avoid casualties, they certainly could not be allowed to fight.

Roar, roar, roar!

As Lei Meng and others closed in, the intelligent beast wolf sensed the threat from these two-legged creatures.

It lowered its front, bared its fangs, and fixed its pair of eerie green eyes on the group, poised to strike.

"Hold your shields tight; Zuiyue sensed it can cast spells!"

To prevent casualties among his subordinates, Gervas immediately issued the warning.

The subordinates were startled by his words.

Although the probability of low-tier beasts possessing magic crystals was low, this was a warning from the lord, so they took it seriously and immediately raised their shields to neck level.

Roar!

Just then, the beast wolf let out a roar.

However, this roar was not merely a display of intimidation; as it roared, a dark green light suddenly flashed from its blood-filled mouth.

Then, under the hair-raising gaze of the knights, three dark green wind blades formed in an instant and, amidst a piercing shriek, shot toward the group.

"Be careful!"

Bang, bang, bang!

Crash! Crash!

After three dull thuds, wood chips flew everywhere in the arena as the iron-clad shields were shattered by the wind blades.

Including Knight Mi Gen, three formal knights were knocked back two or three meters by the tremendous impact and fell heavily to the ground.

This beast was clever; although it saw that Lei Meng and Gervas were the strongest, it chose to attack the ordinary knights.

It wanted to kill a few of the weakest enemies first, seizing the initiative while avoiding being surrounded.

"Mi Gen, how are you?"

"My lord, we are fine!" Mi Gen and others scrambled to their feet; fortunately, the shields had absorbed most of the wind blades' damage, and they had not suffered serious injuries.

Only then did Gervas feel relieved. "Lei Meng, attack; the others provide cover!"

"Yes, my lord!"

Knight Lei Meng's long sword flowed with battle qi as he charged at the beast wolf first.

Gervas also advanced from the other side, and the two formed a pincer attack on the beast wolf.

Roar!

Seeing this, the beast wolf roared again, sending two wind blades toward Gervas and Lei Meng.

However, both possessed battle qi and immediately swung their swords to block.

Clang, clang! The wind blades collided with the battle qi-enhanced long swords, producing the sound of metal striking metal.

Gervas was knocked back two steps, but Lei Meng showed no hesitation, his form unceasing as he continued charging at the beast wolf.

But the beast wolf clearly did not expect the wind blades to kill two titled knights; its true purpose was to delay their movements.

After releasing the wind blades, it leaped and lunged at Gervas.

So, after Gervas blocked the wind blades, the beast wolf was already upon him, its massive claws reaching for his chest amidst a whistling wind.

Gervas had no time to swing his sword again; disregarding his status as lord, he performed an undignified side roll to dodge the beast wolf's lunge.

The beast wolf's strike missed; unwilling to give up Gervas as prey, it attempted to lunge again while Gervas had not yet risen.

"Beast, die!"

But Lei Meng had already run close, his long sword flashing with red light as he slashed at its abdomen.

The beast wolf had no choice but to angrily turn and block.

Clang! The wolf's claw met the longsword, sparks flying, directly blocking Lei Meng's strike.

However, sensing the surging battle qi energy from Lei Meng, a hint of fear appeared in the demon wolf's eyes.

Clearly, to the aged demon wolf, Lei Meng already posed a massive threat.

He quickly retreated a step, increasing the distance between himself and Lei Meng and Gervas.

The clever demon wolf knew its ambush scheme had failed; next, it would likely have to truly face the combined assault of two human Title Knights.

Roar!

Seeming to make a certain resolve, the demon wolf let out another roar, and two wind blades shot toward Gervas and Lei Meng once more.

And in the instant after spitting out the wind blades, this demon wolf actually twisted its head and darted toward the nearby woods.

"Want to run? I expected you would do exactly this!"

Alas, Gervas and Lei Meng had long known the cunning of demons.

Snorting coldly, they simultaneously hurled their shields before them to intercept the wind blades, then rolled on the ground, closing in behind the demon wolf.

Bang! Bang! Two explosions rang out; the wind blades shattered the shield in mid-air, while Gervas and Lei Meng had already risen and swung their swords.

Pfft! Pfft!

Awooo!

Two sounds of blades piercing flesh; Gervas and Lei Meng's long swords struck the demon wolf's left and right hind legs.

The demon wolf, howling in pain, tried to turn and counterattack. Gervas and Lei Meng, master and servant, acted with perfect tacit understanding, thrusting their long swords simultaneously into the demon wolf's neck.

Moments later, the demon wolf fell weakly into the pool of blood, its body twitching uncontrollably, performing the final thunder dance of its wolf life.

This reminded it of that run beneath the setting sun; that was its lost youth...

"Mighty! My Lord is mighty! Knight Commander Lei Meng is mighty!"

"My Lord is mighty! Knight Commander Lei Meng is mighty!"

Seeing the demon wolf, as large as a small mountain, lying in the pool of blood, the five knights immediately cheered.

Gervas and Lei Meng, master and servant, exchanged a glance, both breaking into joyful smiles.

Many of Gervas's practical combat techniques were taught to him these past days by Knight Commander Lei Meng.

Such tacit understanding between the two was also one of the reasons for the demon wolf's swift defeat.
