Chapter 46: That was his lost youth…

~6 min read 1,182 words

Linhai Village is about half an hour’s ride from Mai Tian Town, named for its proximity to the coast.

But as mentioned earlier, the ocean in this world represents danger, so Linhai Village lacks the prosperity of a fishing village from my past life.

The entire village has barely a hundred people.

When the villagers learned their lord had arrived, all the serfs gathered at the village gate to welcome him.

Upon learning that a beast wolf had been spotted nearby, the serfs trembled like leaves in a storm.

“People of Linhai Village, do not fear! Since our great lord has detected the beast’s trail, he will surely eliminate it and protect your safety!”

“Now return to your homes and do not venture out until the beast is slain!” Mi Gen immediately calmed them.

“Yes, my lord! Thank you, my lord, for your mercy!”

The villagers, tears streaming, quickly dispersed and hurried home.

After the villagers left, Gervas ordered Lei Meng and the others to stand guard at the village gate, while he mounted Zhui Yue and soared into the sky to patrol.

With precise intelligence and Zhui Yue’s aerial reconnaissance, they soon spotted the beast wolf that had intruded into Stormlord’s Domain.

This second-rank beast wolf was at least three and a half meters long and one and a half meters tall.

Such a massive creature, carrying a magic crystal, was one of the rare low-rank beasts capable of casting spells—a formidable opponent indeed.

Yet the intelligence also stated it had been driven from its pack, meaning it was surely old.

Only when a younger, stronger wolf seized the alpha’s position would the old wolf king be banished.

The beast wolf was now less than five miles from Linhai Village; Gervas immediately returned, gathered Lei Meng and the others, and advanced to meet it.

Half an hour later, the Firehoof Horses suddenly halted, snorting anxiously, their hooves pawing the ground.

“On guard!”

No doubt—the beast wolf was nearby.

Gervas mounted Zhui Yue again and soared into the air; there, barely a hundred meters away, he spotted the beast wolf crouched beside a small grove.

“Southeast grove!”

At Gervas’s signal, Lei Meng and the others dismounted and closed in on the grove.

Though Firehoof Horses carried dragon blood, they were not beasts and could not withstand a beast wolf’s attack; to avoid casualties, they must not join the fight.

Roar! Roar! Roar!

As Lei Meng and the others encircled it, the cunning beast wolf sensed the threat posed by these two-legged creatures.

It lowered its forequarters, bared its fangs, and fixed its emerald-green eyes on them, coiled and ready to strike.

“Hold your shields tight—Zhui Yue sensed it can cast spells!”

To prevent casualties, Gervas immediately warned them.

The men were startled.

Though low-rank beasts rarely possessed magic crystals, this was their lord’s warning—they took it seriously and raised their shields to neck height.

Roar!

At that moment, the beast wolf let out a roar.

But this roar was more than mere intimidation; as it roared, a dark green glow flashed violently from its bloody maw.

Then, under the horrified gaze of the knights, three dark green wind blades formed instantly and shrieked toward them.

“Watch out!”

Bang! Bang! Bang!

Whoosh! Whoosh!

After three dull impacts, wood chips flew everywhere—the iron-plated shields shattered under the wind blades.

Including Mi Gen, three full knights were thrown back two or three meters by the force and crashed to the ground.

The beast was clever—it saw Lei Meng and Gervas as the strongest, yet chose to attack the ordinary knights.

It aimed to kill the weakest first, gaining psychological advantage while avoiding being surrounded.

“Mi Gen, how are you?”

“My lord, we’re fine!” Mi Gen and the others rose to their feet; luckily, the shields had absorbed most of the wind blade’s force, sparing them serious injury.

Gervas relaxed, “Lei Meng, attack! The rest, cover!”

“Yes, my lord!”

Knight Lei Meng’s longsword flared with aura energy as he charged the beast wolf.

Gervas advanced from the opposite side; together, they formed a pincer strike.

Roar!

The beast wolf roared again, launching two wind blades toward Gervas and Lei Meng.

But both had aura; they immediately raised their swords to block.

Ding! Ding! The wind blades clashed with their aura-enhanced blades, ringing like metal on metal.

Gervas was shoved back two steps; Lei Meng, however, showed no hesitation, pressing forward without pause.

But the beast wolf never expected the wind blades to kill two titled knights—it aimed only to slow them.

As the wind blades were released, it lunged straight at Gervas.

So when Gervas blocked the wind blades, the beast was already upon him, its massive claws slashing through the wind toward his chest.

Gervas had no time to raise his sword again; disregarding his lordly dignity, he rolled sideways in an undignified dodge.

The beast wolf missed, unwilling to abandon its prey; as Gervas still lay on the ground, it prepared to leap again.

“Beast, die!”

But Lei Meng had already closed the distance; his sword, streaked with red aura, slashed at its belly.

The beast wolf had no choice but to whirl around in fury to block.

Ding! Its claw met the blade, sparks flying as it deflected Lei Meng’s strike.

Yet feeling the overwhelming aura energy, the beast wolf’s pupils contracted with fear.

Clearly, Lei Meng posed a grave threat to this aging beast.

It swiftly retreated a step, widening the distance between itself and Lei Meng and Gervas.

The cunning beast knew its ambush had failed; now it faced the full combined attack of two human titled knights.

Roar!

The beast wolf seemed to make a decision; it roared again, launching two more wind blades toward Gervas and Lei Meng.

But the instant it spat the wind blades, it turned and bolted into the nearby grove.

“Think you can run? We expected this!”

But Gervas and Lei Meng had long known the beast’s cunning.

With a cold laugh, they hurled their shields at the incoming wind blades, then rolled on the ground and sprinted behind the beast.

Bang! Bang! The wind blades shattered the airborne shields; Gervas and Lei Meng rose instantly, swords raised.

Plop! Plop!

Aow!

Two wet thuds—their blades sliced into the beast wolf’s left and right hind legs.

The beast howled in agony, turning to strike back; Gervas and Lei Meng, perfectly in sync, thrust their swords simultaneously into its neck.

Moments later, the beast wolf collapsed into a pool of blood, twitching violently, performing its final, convulsive dance.

It reminded him of that run beneath the setting sun—his lost youth…

“Bravo! My lord is mighty! Knight Lei Meng is mighty!”

“My lord is mighty! Knight Lei Meng is mighty!”

Watching the beast wolf, mountain-sized, lie dead in its own blood, the five knights erupted in cheers.

Gervas and Lei Meng exchanged a glance, both wearing satisfied smiles.

Many of Gervas’s combat techniques had been taught to him by Knight Lei Meng these past days.

This seamless coordination was one reason they dispatched the beast wolf so swiftly.
