Chapter 484: The Northern Army Is Coming!

~6 min read 1,099 words

Awooo!

As the light sphere exploded, white lightning arcs instantly engulfed the five Mado Giant Lizards.

The five Mado Giant Lizards barely had time to let out a cry of agony before their bodies stiffened, losing balance and crashing straight toward the ground.

Due to inertia, the fallen Mado Giant Lizards continued sliding forward.

Eventually, the five Mado Giant Lizards slid to a stop just before Mil and the others.

“This… this…” Looking at the colossal beast less than a meter away, its eyes larger than their own heads, Mil and the others were stunned and elated.

They had been certain of death—yet such a turn of events had occurred.

Roar! Roar! Roar!

At that moment, a roar came from above.

It was the five Griffon Knights, who, seeing the Mado Giant Lizards fall, let out disdainful growls—as if to say, “With us here, you won’t dare stir!”

“This… these are our Griffon Knights?”

“It seems so—otherwise why would they attack these Mado Giant Lizards?”

“But weren’t they just coming from the north?”

“That… we’re not sure, but they did save us—that’s real!”

Mil and the others looked up at the Griffon Knights, their eyes filled with gratitude.

They had previously assumed these Griffon Knights were bred by the Beast Tribes—but now, these Griffon Knights had come to their rescue.

This meant the Griffon Knights’ true allegiance remained uncertain.

“Everyone, make way! The Commander-in-Chief is coming!”

At that moment, a shout came from behind Mil and the others—it was the Commander-in-Chief and a group of high nobles rushing over.

They had seen more clearly: five Griffon Knights had actively attacked the Mado Giant Lizards—so were these Griffon Knights on their side?

“Are you all alright?”

“Commander-in-Chief, we’re fine!”

The Commander-in-Chief arrived close by, glanced at the still-paralyzed Mado Giant Lizards, and immediately asked Mil and the others with concern.

Mil and the others were overwhelmed with surprise and quickly assured him they were unharmed.

The Commander-in-Chief nodded, then looked up at the sky: “Lords Griffon Knights, I am the Northern Region Commander-in-Chief. May I ask—where are you from? Are you from our Kingdom?”

The Griffon Knights above had already ascended, but upon hearing this, one of them descended again.

“Commander-in-Chief, we are Griffon Knights of the Kingdom—but as to our exact origin, we have not received permission from our superior to disclose it; please forgive our silence.” The Griffon Knight replied.

And the one who spoke was, naturally, Mick.

He had been ordered by Gervas to precede the main force and confirm the army’s status.

Upon learning this, the Beast King did not interfere—his sole focus now was rescuing Sukama and his youngest prince.

Meanwhile, Gervas, to avoid unnecessary complications, instructed Mick not to initiate attacks unless absolutely necessary.

Mick strictly followed these orders—he likely would not have ordered an attack had he not seen the Mado Giant Lizards threatening the Kingdom’s nobles.

“Are they truly our Kingdom’s Griffon Knights? Does that mean there’s support nearby?”

“Yes? If there really is support, then perhaps we still have a chance to retreat!”

Before the Commander-in-Chief could respond, the nobles who heard Mick’s reply erupted in excitement.

In their minds, Griffon Knights were owned only by high nobles or the King.

Moreover, Griffon Knights rarely operated alone—they usually accompanied ground armies.

So if these Griffon Knights belonged to their Kingdom, perhaps a full ground force was nearby?

Though such hope was extremely slim—after all, these Griffon Knights had unusually come from the north.

But the desperation to survive was overwhelming; now, like drowning men, even a straw seemed like salvation.

Even the Commander-in-Chief could not resist—he eagerly called up to Mick: “Griffon Knight, how did you come from the north? And… are you alone, or is there a ground force with you?”

As soon as the Commander-in-Chief finished speaking, every noble on the ground held their breath, waiting tensely for the answer.

Above, Mick replied bluntly: “We took a detour from the west to reach the wasteland; now, to return to the Kingdom, we came from the north!”

“As for whether we came alone… Commander-in-Chief, our Griffon squad is accompanying the main army—we are nearly there, and you will see them soon!”

Splash!

“I… did I hear that right? The Griffon Knight said they’re with a main army? There’s truly a Kingdom army coming?”

“Your Excellency, you didn’t mishear—I heard it too! And he said the army is almost here!”

“But… why is the army coming from the north? And isn’t there a large number of Beast Tribes in the north? How did they get through? And why haven’t we heard any battle cries?”

“We don’t know! The Griffon Knight said it—could he possibly be lying to us?”

Mick’s answer was like a bucket of cold water thrown into a boiling pot.

Instantly, the nobles erupted in uproar.

A main army truly coming from the north—this felt unreal, like a dream.

Even the nobles now began to doubt: were the Griffon Knights deceiving them?

“Dukes, what do you think?”

The Commander-in-Chief himself was now uncertain.

He had truly hoped a reinforcement force came from the north.

But the Griffon Knight’s blunt reply made it feel too unreal.

This back-and-forth hope and fear left the Commander-in-Chief unsteady.

“Commander-in-Chief, we have no choice now—whether this Griffon Knight is lying or not, it hardly matters!”

“If what he says is true, then best of all—we may yet be rescued!”

“But if it’s false, we can’t be worse off than we are now. All we must do is keep trying to break out!” Duke Hernade spoke first.

Duke Shatterstone said nothing, but gave a slight nod—he clearly agreed with Duke Hernade.

“Then let us continue to break…”

Ooooh!

The Commander-in-Chief, having heard the advice, was about to order another breakout.

But at that moment, a horn blast erupted from behind the Beast Tribes.

Hearing the horn, the Beast chieftains and the fighting Beast soldiers froze.

When they realized what it meant, the Beast soldiers withdrew like a retreating tide.

The Beast chieftains glanced once at the nobles, then turned and headed straight back to their previous platform.

“This… this… the Beast Tribes are retreating?”

“What are they up to? Is this another trick?”

“What trick could it be? If they’re retreating now, doesn’t that make our breakout easier?”

The nobles were stunned.

The Kingdom soldiers, who had been fighting desperately, also stood frozen, weapons still raised.

“Lords, our army has arrived—do not worry. Wait right where you are!” came the Griffon Knight’s voice from above.

With that, the Griffon Knights ascended again and flew northward.
