Chapter 61: The Gates of Hell Are Opened for You!
Listen up, folks from Stormhold! Your lord has offended our Scorpion Bandits, and our Scorpion Boss is furious—he’s coming to settle scores with you!
Our Boss says this is your final chance, you innocent serfs: leave the wooden walls and hide in your homes, and our Scorpion Boss might spare your lives!
But anyone who stubbornly stands with this lord against our Scorpion Boss will have their head ripped off and kicked like a ball—and not even your wives and children will be spared!
As the Scorpion Bandits drew near, before Gevis could even begin speaking, one of their lowlies rushed forward and shouted threats from the wall.
Meanwhile, the Scorpion Boss, mounted on a clearly towering warhorse and surrounded by his followers, tilted his head slightly, biting into an apple with a face full of disdain and arrogance.
Damn! Gevis muttered, “Damn!”
He’s just a bandit chief—how dare he act more like a real lord than I do!
And the way he spoke? It was practically shouting insults right to our faces.
Of course, the Scorpion Bandits’ influence along the border was indeed not to be underestimated.
The guards’ reactions were better—after all, they’d received generous benefits and Gevis had shown them favor, so their resolve held firm.
But the newly conscripted serfs were already pale-faced, trembling in fear.
“Serfs of Stormhold, before I came, I heard Stormhold was a dangerous place—but I, Gevis, did not retreat. I came boldly to this land others called a death trap!”
“On my first day here, I saw the Demon Serpent attack Stormhold. Later, I saw the Swamp Troll and the Second-Rank Beast Wolf!”
“So what? Didn’t I lead my knights to easily crush them? My land and people remained unharmed—while those demons and dark gods were utterly annihilated!”
“Now, the Scorpion Bandits have come. Let me tell you: their final fate will be no different from the Demon Serpent and the Swamp Troll.”
“So what’s there to fear about the Scorpion Bandits? Everyone, follow me—raise your middle fingers at these bandits and shout: ‘Come on, bastards! If you dare charge, the gates of hell will open for you!’”
“Hah! The Lord is right—the Scorpion Bandits will end up just like the Demon Serpent and the Beast Wolf! Guards, raise your middle fingers and shout with me: ‘Come on, bastards! If you dare charge, the gates of hell will open for you!’”
“Come on, bastards! If you dare charge, the gates of hell will open for you!”
“Come on, bastards! If…”
First, a hundred guards shouted in unison; then, the serfs, infected by the spirit, joined in.
Amid the roaring cries, the spirit of Wheatfield Town surged like a storm.
In contrast, the wild dogs outside, who had been eager to attack moments before, were now stunned by Wheatfield Town’s aura, their eagerness dimmed.
“Damn you, bastards! I underestimated you!” The Scorpion Boss hurled his apple aside. “Charge! Today, I’ll slaughter every man in Wheatfield Town!”
“Wild dogs, hear that? The Scorpion Boss has spoken—follow me!” The Second-in-Command immediately responded, personally leading over four hundred wild dogs into the charge.
“Kill!”
Carrying dozens of crude wooden ladders and wielding all manner of weapons, the wild dogs charged under Sack’s leadership.
“Archers, fire!”
Whoosh! Whoosh! Whoosh!
As the enemy entered the hundred-meter effective range, eleven slave archers—including Evlan—began shooting.
Amid the whistling arrows, wild dog bandits occasionally stiffened and collapsed to the ground.
Of course, eleven archers could barely make a dent against a force of four hundred.
In an instant, the wild dogs reached the base of the wall.
“Climb up! The first man to break into Wheatfield Town gets ten silver coins!” Sack shouted again.
“Kill!”
The lure of gold reignited the wild dogs’ courage. Once the ladders were propped against the wooden wall, they scrambled up without hesitation.
Above, the guards and serf soldiers began hurling stones to repel them.
Unfortunately, the wild dogs had been issued special wooden shields by the bandit gang—so the stones had little effect!
Soon, wild dog bandits began to appear atop the wooden wall.
Puff!
But the guards reacted just as swiftly—spears and swords thrust forward without mercy; every one of those greedy bastards who dared chase the ten silver coins screamed and tumbled down.
Yet more wild dogs surged forward, replacing the fallen.
“No wonder he acted so arrogant—his wild dogs fight like they don’t fear death. They’ve got real strength!” Gevis watched the battle atop the wall and finally took the Scorpion Bandits seriously.
In truth, Gevis didn’t know that the Scorpion Boss far away was also deeply surprised.
After all, serfs along this border would piss themselves just hearing the name of the Scorpion Boss.
Yet these guards and serfs on the wall, after his threats, still stood firm and fought the wild dogs—something he’d never seen before.
“Go, tell Sack! Lead the charge and break through!”
The wild dogs might be cannon fodder, but these were his veteran cannon fodder—loyal, battle-tested, vital to the Scorpion Bandits.
So the Scorpion Boss decided to shift tactics: have Sack and his Bronze Knight help smash a breach.
Of course, this was only the Scorpion Boss’s own wishful thinking.
Upon receiving the order, Sack immediately drew his sword and charged up the wooden wall.
Then he roared, and as he activated his aura, preparing to leap over and slaughter everyone, Lei Meng—who had been watching him closely—was already at his side.
“Die!” Sack, unaware of the danger, swung his sword without hesitation at the man blocking his path!
Lei Meng sneered, his sword humming as it met Sack’s blade.
And Lei Meng struck later but faster—CRACK! The impact shattered Sack’s grip.
“Damn!” Sack finally realized—he was facing a Title Knight far stronger than himself.
“Die!” Even as he reeled in shock, Lei Meng’s sword slashed again!
“Damn it!” Seeing the blade hurtling toward him, Sack had no time to block—he gritted his teeth and threw himself backward.
Creak!
Puff!
But as he fell toward the ground, Lei Meng’s sword tip still grazed his body, slicing through his leather armor and carving a long, bloody gash across his chest.
Thud! Sack hit the ground.
Normally, a Title Knight jumping from four meters wouldn’t suffer serious injury.
But Sack landed on his back, grunted, and spat out a trickle of blood.
He didn’t dare delay—he scrambled to his feet and ran!
Lei Meng glanced after him, silently thinking, “Pity.”
But Sack’s flight threw the wild dogs into panic.
Gevis saw it and shouted, “Your boss has fled—why are you still standing? Waiting to die?”
The wild dogs erupted in chaos—they saw Sack staggering backward, fleeing.
Their courage had come from Sack and the Scorpion Boss as their benchmarks.
Now that the benchmarks had fled, their spirit collapsed instantly.
“Sack’s running! Let’s go!”
“Yeah! Let’s get out of here—there’s a Title Knight up there! We can’t beat him!”
And so, the once-ferocious wild dogs broke and fled.
