Chapter 1029: Flesh and Blood Are Frail and Weak
The entire Jingcheng was taken in at a single glance by Qing Wang.
The once prosperous and flourishing city, wherever one looked now, was nothing but ruin.
The entire Jingcheng was nearly devoid of human figures; everywhere, vines and creepers spread, intertwining with the broken walls and shattered tiles in a tangled crisscross, as if suspended between annihilation and rebirth. Only within the Imperial Palace did any trace of people remain, and even that was merely a last, struggling gasp.
The entire Qing Cheng was nearly shattered to pieces, teetering on the brink of destruction.
The aura spilling outward from those spreading vines stirred a memory in Qing Wang—of a certain person.
But that person's name had already grown distant and unfamiliar, and his impression of that person had ultimately come to rest upon that terrifying Han Jiang that almost no one dared to investigate any longer.
Mo… Qing?
Beneath the gaze of countless eyes, Qing Wang, high in the sky, gently furrowed his brow for a moment, then quickly smoothed it away.
His gaze lingered briefly on the King of the Wuyu Tribe, then slowly rose higher, looking up into the clouds above.
"Come down. Watching the show from up there—does that amuse you?"
Qing Wang's voice was very calm, yet it clearly carried throughout the entire Jingcheng.
The King of the Wuyu Tribe frowned, wanting to say something, yet not daring to act rashly. The combined might of the four great clan Elders brought him tremendous pressure.
This was no simple matter of four Rain-level powerhouses; the terrifying aura those four elders displayed when joining forces was absolutely, completely, qualified to battle him—a Mo-level Weird!
Qing Guo, able to suppress all other nations and dominate a region, flourishing for so many years, truly had real foundation behind it—it was not simply a matter of relying on royal bloodline alone.
The crowd below, seeing the Advent of His Majesty and the four clan Elders directly suppressing the situation, were instantly stirred with emotion.
"Qing Guo is saved!"
"Our present Majesty has no equal!"
"So what if it's a Mo-level Weird! Daring to disrupt Qing Guo's national fortune—death is certain!"
As the crowd's excitement rose…
Boom!
Beneath the crimson moon's light, within the thundercloud-shrouded night sky, a massive rift suddenly split open.
A black shadow descended through the rift in the thunderclouds, arriving before Qing Wang.
In a single glance, Fang Yue recognized the shadow from its aura—it was unmistakably… the Hei Qing Weird that had once tried to kill him in the Heiqing Shanmai!
Clap!
Clap!
Clap!
Hei Qing Weird slowly applauded, smiling as he looked upon the King of Qing Guo.
"King of Qing Guo, the undefeated legend, the true master of the Guardian Stone Lions… you have many titles, but my favorite one is…" Hei Qing Weird stopped applauding, drew close to Qing Wang, and whispered: "…the caged bluebird!"
The instant Hei Qing Weird's words fell, Qing Wang abruptly clenched both fists, and for the first time, true killing intent appeared between his brows.
This killing intent was extremely faint, yet chillingly cold and utterly pure.
"Oooooh! Don't get worked up, little bluebird."
Hei Qing Weird laughed as he stepped back to create distance, then narrowed his eyes, looking toward the head Qing Wang held in his hand.
"We both know that once you and I make a move, there will hardly be any room left for restraint. But before that, there is one thing I very much want to know."
"What thing?" Qing Wang asked coldly.
"You, a bird in a cage, who can only become a legend within Qing Guo—how did you, outside of Qing Guo… kill an 'Immortal'?"
"Kill an Immortal? You think rather highly of me." Qing Wang gave a cold laugh, raised the hand holding Meiyu's head, and violently hurled Meiyu's skull downward—and the place where it landed was unmistakably… where Fang Yue stood!
As his hand instinctively reached out, Fang Yue had already firmly caught Meiyu Xianzi's head.
At the same time, everyone else's gazes snapped, in unison, toward Fang Yue.
Puzzlement, confusion, blankness…
Every kind of gaze converged on Fang Yue, yet Fang Yue himself was, in fact, the most bewildered of them all.
By the time Fang Yue looked up at Qing Wang, Qing Wang had already begun to speak.
"Hei Qing Weird, you have no idea what I saw at Jing Shan."
"Jing Shan? I had always assumed it was merely legend, not something real, but now it seems… you've already been there? I heard that place connects to Jiu Yuan—that's no place for humans; even I, a Weird, dare not dream of approaching it, and you, a mere Qing Wang, dare to go alone and still walk away unscathed? No! Wait! Hehehehe! Could it be that this Immortal wasn't killed by you, but died trying to save you?"
Hei Qing Weird stroked his chin with keen interest—clearly, the death of an Immortal greatly intrigued him, especially since this Immortal was also connected to that unfathomably mysterious Jing Shan, making everything all the more interesting.
But Qing Wang's cold laugh gradually grew louder.
"Do you know? At Jing Shan, I saw corpses. Immortal corpses, demon corpses, human corpses, Weird corpses… corpses carpeting the entire mountain, forging Jing Shan smooth as a mirror! And among those corpses blanketing the mountainside, I even saw… your corpse!"
"My corpse?"
Hei Qing Weird was instantly stunned.
"I'm right here—where would my corpse come from…"
Before Hei Qing Weird could finish speaking, he suddenly seemed to realize something, and his expression froze in an instant.
The next moment, his countenance visibly darkened.
Having been sealed away for too long, Hei Qing Weird seemed to have forgotten that the him of the past was not at all in his current form!
"You people sealed my body inside Jing Shan! No wonder I couldn't sense it… what a ruthless move, little bluebird!"
Hei Qing Weird's face gradually grew savage. There were few things capable of stirring such violent emotional upheaval in him now that his strength had recovered, but this matter absolutely warranted his genuine fury.
In the face of Hei Qing Weird's rage, Qing Wang instead became calm.
"The one you should be praising is Mo Qing—I don't have the ability to throw your corpse into Jing Shan. Though I imagine Mo Qing shouldn't have been able to do that either, back then; at most, he preserved your corpse somewhere, and the one who actually hurled your corpse into Jing Shan should have been… the Meiyu Xianzi."
As Qing Wang spoke to this point, his gaze turned toward—and it was Fang Yue below!
Fang Yue's heart gave a sudden jolt, and he immediately realized that within Jing Shan there might be more than one of Meiyu Xianzi's clone corpses, and that Qing Wang must have personally seen more than one of Meiyu Xianzi's clone corpses.
Meiyu Xianzi had once said that to resist the 【Heaven Devouring】, coordination from within and without was needed, and her clones were the key to that 'within.'
What was the point of merely bringing Hei Qing Weird's body to Jing Shan? Such an act was as if…
"I suspect… Meiyu Xianzi is nurturing 【Jing Shan】! She wants to bring 【Jing Shan】 into the world! She wants the legendary 【Jiu You】 to descend once more upon 【Qingchuan Jie】! No! It should be… the entire 【Suo Zhi Guo】! If Jiu You descends, the tiny 【Qingchuan Jie】 would be swallowed up in an instant; before Jiu You, 【Qingchuan Jie】 is but a speck of dust, not worth mentioning."
"Although I do not know why Meiyu Xianzi would harbor such a terrifying, destructive idea, out of gratitude for her kindness back then, and because of the immortal's blood she provided at the very end before her death, I helped her fulfill her final wish… which was, to bring her remains back to the displaced people of Qing Guo."
I'm back to update!
Also, I recommend a book, "Filled in the Wrong Volunteer Choice, I Enrolled in a University Cultivation Class." Wu Ming originally wanted to go to university to fall in love, but unexpectedly ended up in a cultivation class. Since that's how it is, he might as well fall in love with an immortal maiden.
