Chapter 330: Wait for Death or Fight for Life (4/10, for Alliance Leader

~7 min read 1,318 words

"Bai Xiaoya, you go in and find him. I'll deal with the trouble out here."

"Okay."

Watching Fang Yue charge out and, in a single clash, smash the charred corpse that had just emerged into pieces, a flash of envy crossed Bai Xiaoya's eyes. Then she went into the room.

"Don't panic, I'm here to res—"

"Miss?!"

Before Bai Xiaoya could finish speaking, one person in the crowd suddenly stood up.

It was A Ming!

Under the curious, puzzled, excited gazes of the crowd, Bai Xiaoya continued with a blank expression: "I'm here to rescue A Ming. You all just stay where you are."

Saying so, she went over, hauled A Ming to his feet, and led the utterly bewildered A Ming outside.

At this, the rest of them immediately erupted.

"Wait! Miss, is the monster outside still there? How did you get in?"

"Big sister, can you take me too? I'm—I'm scared!"

"Beauty, save me! Saving a life beats building a seven-story pagoda!"

"Sister, take me with you when you escape, please! Please!"

The people who had been resigned to waiting for death, upon seeing Bai Xiaoya, were suddenly filled with hope. A few of the burly men even punched down those who had been shouting the loudest moments ago.

"Fairy sister, they're all useless—old, weak, sick, and crippled. Take us instead. We can be your bodyguards! As long as you get us out, from now on, if we have a mouthful of rice, you'll have a mouthful of meat!"

"Big brothers, and you too, miss—I'm the CEO of May Company. As long as you get me out alive, one million each, I swear on my word!"

At the mention of money, most of the people here were no strangers to it and began naming their prices one after another. But Bai Xiaoya didn't even spare them a glance, dragging A Ming along as she walked.

The burly man from before frowned at once and blocked the doorway.

"Why leave just like that? Fairy sister, if we can't talk terms, we can talk slowly. You must be that young fellow's girlfriend, right? Pretty as you are, having a capable boyfriend is only natural. Tell me—if I grab you and use you to threaten your boyfriend, do you think he'd take us with him?"

As he spoke, the burly man also cast a pointed look at the people around him.

Sure enough, quite a few of them began to feel tempted.

The first thing they had seen was the image of Fang Yue kicking open the iron door. They hadn't thought it through at the time, but with the burly man's reminder, they immediately saw the light.

The key was that young fellow, not this woman.

Quite a few of them couldn't help showing cruel expressions—against monsters, they were useless, because they valued their lives. But against their own kind, against humans, they were experts!

The burly man blocking the door, apparently feeling his scheme had worked, also showed a sinister smile.

Then, he saw the last sight of his life.

It was the woman who had been teased as "Fairy sister," calmly swinging in her right hand what looked like a charred arm torn from a charred corpse.

The arm swept past.

He was sliced open from chest to belly. After a moment of blankness, the searing pain finally spread through his whole body, and he howled as he rolled on the floor.

And the others, upon seeing this scene, went wide-eyed and shut their mouths in unison, not daring to look at Bai Xiaoya again.

"Miss?!"

A Ming stared at the scene in shock.

He never could have imagined that the flower nurtured in a greenhouse, that gentle miss, would suddenly strike and hurt someone.

And... in one move, so ruthlessly, so decisively.

At this moment, A Ming felt a sense of unfamiliarity toward the Bai Xiaoya before him.

As if, clearly, the person in front of him was the miss, and yet was not the miss.

"Miss, what on earth happened? How could you—"

Bai Xiaoya glanced at A Ming, who seemed to know nothing, thought for a moment, and said, "Let's get back to the helicopter first."

"Okay, okay!"

A Ming had come armed with a gun, but the bullets could only punch small holes in the charred corpses; they couldn't kill them.

A Ming had only taken shelter here with the rest after seeing others being slaughtered.

During his escape, he had dropped his phone and was worrying about Bai Xiaoya's safety—only to end up being the one rescued by Bai Xiaoya.

The two of them came out of the room. Bai Xiaoya called out to Fang Yue, and soon Fang Yue was back at their side.

"We need to leave now. I was just chasing a charred corpse into a room, and the whole room was full of charred corpses. That many is way too dangerous for you two."

A whole room of charred corpses?

Bai Xiaoya and A Ming exchanged a glance, then nodded at Fang Yue.

The three of them began running outward. In the pouring rain, thunder still rumbled.

The people in the room watched the three retreating backs, their eyes filled with all manner of emotions.

Some were envious, some were lost, some helpless, some afraid...

Those three backs seemed like life's last hope gradually fading into the distance.

Suddenly, one person leapt to his feet.

This action immediately drew the attention of the others.

That person seemed very nervous, his whole body trembling with fear.

"E-everyone, listen to me. How about—how about we all charge out together right now and follow behind those three? Even if they don't care about us, with them there, they'll draw the fire. But if we just stay here, the iron door is gone too—it's the same as waiting to die! What do you all think?"

Those words woke some up, made some hesitate, and left even more in silence.

Seeing this, that man gritted his teeth, gave up on the others, and charged out yelling "Ahhhh!" at the top of his lungs. Soon, he was gone from sight.

Seeing this, the others hardened their hearts as well and rose one after another to charge out.

In no time, more than half the people in the room were gone. Of those remaining, some had made up their minds to hide here, while others were still hesitating.

And just then... the charred corpses, drawn by those sounds and shouts, appeared at the doorway.

The moment the people in the room saw the charred corpse, screams exploded outward, drawing even more charred corpses to gather over.

After about two or three minutes, the room finally fell silent.

…

Fang Yue, leading Bai Xiaoya and A Ming, ran outward; the exit of Jiangyun Temple was already faintly visible ahead, and they were almost out of Jiangyun Temple's bounds.

But just then, Fang Yue heard footsteps—dense, chaotic footsteps.

He turned and looked back, and couldn't help but freeze.

He saw that most of the people from the room earlier had run out together with them, and were now following behind them.

Some of them, having spotted the exit, sped up, overtook the three of them, and rushed toward the exit.

"They…" A Ming said.

"None of our business," Bai Xiaoya said calmly, still gripping a charred corpse's arm in her hand.

Boom!

Another thunderclap exploded, illuminating the surroundings.

Fang Yue paid it no mind at first, but then he noticed that the people running alongside them, upon hearing the thunder, all screamed in terror; some even clamped their hands over their heads and scurried back the way they came, as if utterly terrified of the thunder.

Only after the thunder faded and darkness returned did they, still shaken and as if reborn from disaster, follow Fang Yue and continue running toward the exit.
