Chapter 846: White Shadow Assassin (9/10, Requesting Subscription)

I've thought about this—Wu Captain's condition may be extremely unusual. Grandfather once told me that His Majesty's bloodline is actually… True Phoenix Blood! And among the Four Great Families, our You Family's bloodline is the closest to His Majesty's, though… perhaps due to this closeness, we once received immense trust and power.

But later, our You Family had a very unpleasant experience with the imperial clan. Since then, our bloodline has become exceptionally thin.

And Wu Captain's condition bears great similarity to what Grandfather described about the imperial bloodline—the True Phoenix Bloodline.

"His Majesty's and Wu Captain's bloodlines are both True Phoenix Bloodline…"

Fang Yue recalled Wu Captain's condition, and his expression gradually turned strange.

"You mean Wu Captain is actually His Majesty's illegitimate son or something??"

"Shh! Don't speak recklessly!"

You Sisi quickly covered Fang Yue's mouth with her hand, but upon feeling the warmth of his breath, she immediately realized something, snatched her right hand back in embarrassment, and blushed as she whispered.

"At that time, Grandfather told me about the Nine Great Princes and mentioned some of His Majesty's deeds. He said His Majesty had once been young, with many romantic entanglements. But now, the only ones he truly acknowledges and keeps are the Nine Great Princes. If His Majesty intends to abdicate, the successor to Qing Guo can only be chosen from among the Nine Great Princes."

Fang Yue frowned: "So do the Nine Great Princes also possess True Phoenix Bloodline… like Wu Captain, with the power of resurrection?"

You Sisi shook her head: "I don't know. No one has ever truly killed the Nine Great Princes—or rather, even if someone had killed them and learned the secret of True Phoenix Blood, they could never have survived to leave. This secret, central to the imperial clan, is known only to the dead and never leaked. You must be careful too—after hearing this, never mention it to anyone else, or even my grandfather won't be able to save you."

…Your grandfather probably wishes nothing more than to eliminate me, how could he possibly protect me?

But if You Sisi truly threatened to die for it, perhaps out of familial affection, You Lao might waver.

But Fang Yue would never let You Sisi reach that point, nor would he allow events to spiral that far.

Some things, once happened, are enough to bring lifelong regret—never again shall they occur!

Still, since You Lao told You Sisi about His Majesty's secrets and the bloodline's secrets, her position in his heart must already be extremely high—essentially that of an heir.

If so, why does You Lao insist You Sisi marry the Seventh Prince? Why not train her as You Family's heir instead…

Fang Yue suddenly fell silent—he understood.

You Lao has no choice.

The Four Great Families must pick a side.

Of course, even if they choose wrong, the Four Great Families will still survive to serve the new king—but how much of their power remains, and how harshly they'll be punished afterward, is uncertain.

The Seventh Prince may not be a good choice, but with His Majesty's past decree of betrothal above, and the Nine Great Princes' obligation to align with one below, under these circumstances, the Seventh Prince isn't an entirely unacceptable option.

Still, You Family's situation isn't something Fang Yue needs to care about—as long as You Sisi is safe, everything about You Family means nothing to him.

But as for Wu Captain…

"The Phoenix Organization kidnapped Wu Captain, and Wu Captain possesses True Phoenix Blood close to the imperial bloodline. Do you think the Phoenix Organization's goal might be…"

"You mean regicide?"

You Sisi shook her head: "Impossible. Ye Se, you don't understand His Majesty. His Majesty isn't just someone who handles documents. Aside from those ancient hermits who've retired for years, His Majesty is likely the strongest person in Qing Guo, standing atop Qing Guo!"

The strongest person in Qing Guo!?

Fang Yue clenched his fists, his face darkening.

"How strong?"

"I don't know, but according to Grandfather, assassins targeting His Majesty have always existed. Though few, there have been many who broke into the Imperial Palace and neared His Majesty's side. Yet none succeeded—they were all defeated by His Majesty's own hands! Those who dare assassinate His Majesty—you know without asking what level of cultivator they must be. Without reaching Rain Level, you have no right to stand before His Majesty."

"…"

Fang Yue fell silent, feeling immense pressure.

But he could bear it.

He would never again let go of You Sisi's hand!

After calming his emotions, he thought for a moment and asked: "Has His Majesty never truly died? Never once revealed the power of True Phoenix Blood?"

"He has. According to Grandfather, in his entire life, he heard His Majesty's Phoenix Cry only once—and that was the moment he confirmed all ancestral records were true!

That was when His Majesty encountered the strongest assassin of the time—the White Shadow Assassin!

At that time, His Majesty and… Lord Han entered Wenxuan Hall, while Grandfather and the Four Great Families waited outside.

Not long after, a battle broke out inside, and His Majesty ordered the four of them not to enter the hall.

But soon after, the Phoenix Cry echoed from Wenxuan Hall, and then the battle ended.

When Grandfather and the others entered, they saw only His Majesty crouched on the ground, surrounded by a pool of cold, cold blood—frozen blood, now thawing into liquid.

Han Bai, who should have been inside the hall, had vanished. His Majesty only said he had been attacked by the White Shadow Assassin, and Han Bai had been wounded saving him, lured the assassin away, and was now missing.

But when the heads of the Four Great Families sought to investigate, His Majesty stopped them, saying he would handle it himself.

Later, His Majesty suddenly announced that the White Shadow Assassin had been killed by him, and that Han Bai had bid him farewell, left Jingcheng, and would retire into the mountains, never to return, forbidding anyone from searching for him or disturbing his peace—otherwise, 'bloodbath' would return!

This was the highest-order command; the Four Great Families dared not ask further.

But Grandfather later realized: the strongest assassin who had once killed His Majesty—the White Shadow Assassin—was probably… Han Bai, Lord Han!

But this matter could never be spoken of or investigated, and so it was buried.

This should have been a secret forever sealed by the heads of the Four Great Families, but after my bloodline awakened, Grandfather told me this along with other hidden truths.

After speaking so much, You Sisi was also breathless.

Don't be fooled by her claims about her bloodline awakening and how her talent and strength would surge—

In truth, she was still very weak, hadn't even regained her strength in Qingsi County, and was still in recovery.

Honestly, when Grandfather first told her this news, she was stunned.
