Chapter 1729: Dreams and the Saturday Meeting
Saturday noon, No. 6 St. Delan Square.
Dorothy, wearing an apron and humming an unknown tune, in good spirits carried a plate of stewed beef to the dining table. The owner of the house and the house pet cat were on the left and right respectively, resting their heads on the table, looking at the glass jar brought by the Young Lady, the writer.
Xia De was peeking, while Mia was lying with her whole body on the table. As for what was inside that small cylindrical glass jar, it was three crawling spiders.
These were Dorothy's spell components; she was attempting to learn a new thaumaturgy, "Spider Walk," based on the traditional story "The Spider Walker." This thaumaturgy allows the caster to walk on any surface. Although the effect is not very strong, it relates to a series of thaumaturgy concepts of Dorothy's.
After lunch in a while, she would kill these spiders to brew a potion. So although the spiders cannot eat lunch, this counts as their last meal.
"Speaking of which, since your house has no spiders, geckos, mice, or the like, do you want me to put these spiders here?"
The blonde Miss spoke jokingly. Xia De shook his head:
"No need. The situation at home is very good now. Besides me and Mia, the flowers raised by Luvia are also growing very well on the windowsill.
That is the effect of the 'Power of the Earth: Domain of Abundance.'
Speaking, he slapped away Mia's curious paw reaching for the glass jar. This cat sometimes has too much curiosity, especially towards small moving things.
"Then let's continue the topic from just now. You said you had a strange dream last night?"
Dorothy, who had returned to the kitchen, asked.
Xia De was momentarily speechless:
"Not exactly strange. I had nightmares a few days ago. What Luvia said when interpreting dreams back then can be used to analyze my dream last night."
In last night's dream, he only remembered countless white hands like flesh snakes grabbing him, pulling him in all directions. That dream was magnificent, bizarre, hazy, yet seductive. If not for last night's experience, he would really suspect that his recent series of dreams were all the work of "Desire."
【It is not.】
"I know it is not. Please do not humiliate me."
Speaking, he looked again at the oil painting hanging in the living room. Dorothy, returning with a bowl of vegetable soup, asked with a smile:
"Luvia can also interpret dreams? This is the first I've heard of it. Judging by your appearance, yesterday's experience affected your night's dream? But yesterday was Friday. I heard from Princess Lei Lei Qianya that you went to Miss Jia Lin Na's banquet, didn't you? What did you experience?
Although quite shameful, since Dorothy asked, Xia De still beckoned to the Miss wearing the apron, then briefly introduced the situation. This also served to explain to her and Princess Lei Lei Qianya what the true fusion of "Dual-Aspect One" actually is: Megan and Audrey were one body from before birth, a special existence of innate structure, while Princess Lei Lei Qianya and Dorothy were obviously acquired.
But obviously, the focus of Dorothy's concern was not the current status of the "Dual-Aspect One" Witches. Her face flushed as she listened in shock to Xia De's ordeal last night:
"It can actually be done like this? I originally thought that our Red Butterfly Day, mine and Princess Lei Lei Qianya's, was already..."
"The focus shouldn't be on this."
"Xia De, please must let Princess Lei Lei Qianya and me meet this Witch!"
"After the Green Lake incident ends... what do you want to do?"
Dorothy smiled without speaking, but lowered her head and kissed the forehead of the seated Xia De:
"Recently, have you been doubting our feelings for you?"
"Why do you ask that?"
"Your dream shows... you are really uneasy. You have encountered so many things before; have your dreams been this frequent now?"
Today was a slightly leisurely Saturday. After eating the New Year's meal, Xia De held Mia and went with the Young Lady, the writer, to Doctor Shi Nai De's for a meeting.
Now it is the beginning of the Month of Rain-Praying, the best season of the year. Saturday afternoon, everyone appeared somewhat lazy. Everyone chatted about recent matters and spent the entire afternoon together.
This small group meeting also had not too many new things. Mia's sleepiness seemed to be contagious, so that except for the doctor presiding over the meeting, including Xia De, everyone took a short nap in the middle. However, the doctor did not mind.
As for the most important matter of this meeting, it was that he announced to the group members the notice sent by the Academy:
"Since the Night of the Lunar Eclipse on Wednesday, the spatial stability of the Material World has been affected to a certain extent. Centered on the Green Lake area, phenomena of spatial instability have increased sharply. Therefore, the Academy hopes that Correspondence Circle Mages can report abnormal spatial phenomena in their stationed areas. It is better if you can solve them yourselves; if you cannot, the Academy can contact the Church to handle it."
He held a very long scroll of parchment in his right hand and propped his face on the armrest of the sofa with his left hand:
"Currently, the spatial anomalies recorded by the Academy include: random teleportation—accidentally running thousands of miles away, so we must pay attention to the number of missing persons in the local area; spatial fracture zones—entering them causes bodies to shatter into crumbs, which is also dangerous for Circle Mages. Fortunately, our inspiration is sufficient to capture danger signals; spatial disarray zones—similar to the urban legends of 'endless alleys' or 'circular streets.' However, the Church should be able to discover such matters in time."
"There was an incident of this kind yesterday in the North District of Tobesk."
Priest August suddenly spoke, waking up Luvia, who was constantly "nodding" off to sleep:
"Tobesk? We haven't heard the news."
It seemed that although she took a short nap, she did not miss any important content.
"I only knew when chatting with people in the church. The scope was not large; it only trapped a newspaper-selling boy and a beggar."
The Priest added, also yawning. This temperature and the sunlight outside the window were really suitable for a nap.
"Doctor, please continue. Are there any other phenomena that have been collected?"
Dorothy spoke again, very interested in this. "Yes."
The Doctor continued to look at the parchment in his hand:
"Next is rarer: solidified spatial fissures. That is to say, a teleportation fissure connecting two different locations. However, this only appeared once, over in Carsonric, so it has nothing to do with us. The most dangerous are spatial weak zones. Some ancient sealed Pantanal Pantanal Xiewu, or creatures from outside space, might use this to break into the Material World. This is the main issue the Academy wants us to pay attention to.
The others recorded this information. The Doctor then nodded towards Xia De and said:
"The Academy warns all students possessing spatial power: recently, try not to frequently perform space-crossing spells to avoid danger. For a period of time afterwards, the spatial order of the Material World will maintain its current chaotic and fragile state. You must be careful."
Xia De, who was stroking the sleeping Mia, nodded. "I understand."
He knew very well that if this situation evolved, it would eventually become like the apocalypse of 【The Past, the Sixth Era】, where the time and spatial order of the entire world would collapse. However, thinking about this now was still too far away. Right now, he only felt the cat lying on his legs was getting hot. The sun at the window was shining directly on the cat's back. Xia De was somewhat worried that Mia would be "roasted."
He tried to pick up the cat, which became even softer once asleep, but immediately encountered Mia's opposition.
"Can we draw it out again?" Xia De nodded:
"Yes. By contacting a door in the dream of a specific person, that evil spirit demon will definitely appear again. That is what it said itself. But the opponent will definitely still appear as an illusion; it is highly unlikely to be the true form." "No problem, no problem." The Doctor smiled and shook his head:
"As long as it projects its power over, I can grab its tail. This fellow is not strong, at least not stronger than the mirror in the Landel Valley; it just has too good hiding abilities. And you said it is in a dream? That makes it even more convenient. In dreams, my constraints are fewer."
Xia De also felt this would be more convenient:
"Doctor, when do you plan to set off?"
"Next Monday. I still need to do some targeted preparations. You don't need to come to see me off then; I will leave quietly and try not to attract others' attention. I checked the train schedules; it takes a day and a half to reach Green Lake. We can meet on Tuesday or Wednesday."
He shook his head, seeming very much looking forward to it.
"However, I must state in advance that the situation over at Green Lake is currently very complex."
Xia De warned.
"I know; I will follow your arrangements completely when the time comes.
The doctor indicated there was absolutely no problem:
"Although I do not know how long I can stay at Green Lake, I can certainly help you. Last time you mentioned that evil spirit demon serves a Thirteen-Ring Diviner? That is dangerous, but not enough to scare me off."
"Very well, I will prepare a room for you in advance. It is called the Green Lake Inn, the best inn on the north shore of the lake, and the innkeepers are my friends; the living conditions are quite good."
Xia De said with a smile, and the doctor nodded, then looked out the window at the fine weather:
"I hope this short trip goes smoothly. The power of the Labyrinth Demon—Aru—is different from all the power I currently command. After swallowing it...
Eight Rings, not far off.
