Chapter 177: With Miss Bei Yasi
Since there was a chance to chat, Xia De told what had happened last night—that rainy night. Xia De kept his promise not to take any unrelated relics, and Miss Bei Yasi had this morning reported those two names to the Church.
The Ring Ringed Ringed Shushi squad Miss Bei Yasi belonged to had not been assigned to handle this matter, but she had also heard from her squad captain about how the corresponding Ring Ringed Ringed Shushi had broken into Mr. Pang Dun's home last night, killed the 【Quicksilver Blood】 assassin, and left in triumph.
"Detective, I just knew it had to be you. Your friends really are something. Judging from the fighting marks at the scene, the other side barely had a chance to fight back."
She sighed, her eyes turning toward the window.
"Three against one—winning easily isn't normal?"
Xia De asked, flipping through a book, then gave a vivid example:
"The other guy was only a four-ring Ring Ringed Ringed Shushi, and the gap between us wasn't as huge as the gap between a mouse and Xiao Xiao Miya, so by the time we realized he hadn't left, he'd already lost."
Miss Bei Yasi turned her head to glance at the cat napping on Xia De's lap:
"Actually, the gap between your cat and a mouse probably isn't that big either. It doesn't look like the kind of cat that could catch mice..."
Miss Bei Yasi said, holding a teacup:
"Since we're on the topic—did you get any extra information from that assassin? Like the Silver-Eyed One's location."
"I wanted to tell you earlier. Our group has a Ring Ringed Ringed Shushi who's very good at interrogating for intel, but unfortunately, that assassin didn't know where the Silver-Eyed One is hiding. What we can confirm, though, is that the Silver-Eyed One wounded by the masked man under the silver moon has injuries that are hard to heal, so he doesn't even trust the people in his own organization anymore."
He almost let slip that he was the one, but luckily Miss Bei Yasi didn't catch it.
"Good news—that makes it even more likely I can take my revenge with my own hands."
The female Ring Ringed Ringed Shushi remarked.
"Oh, we also found the location of 【God's Gift Box】."
Xia De added, waving at the drifting snowflakes, and denser snow fell. The snowfall cost him almost nothing—it wasn't a wonder, just a minor auxiliary function of the maze lock, a natural phenomenon produced by Xia De's element interfering with reality, carrying a higher mystique than wonders.
Miss Bei Yasi, her back to Xia De, waved her hand:
"No need to tell me the exact location. Once the Church learns where that relic is, they'll definitely go look for it, and they'll definitely succeed. But if that happens, the Silver-Eyed One might leave Tobesk, and I'd have even less idea where to find him."
She had full confidence in the Zhengshen Sect Church, and that confidence was well-founded. Even if the Silver-Eyed One weren't seriously wounded, a man like him couldn't be considered a huge threat in a major diocese guarded by several ten-ring or higher Ring Mages.
Xia De nodded and suggested:
"But once this is over, we can agree on a time and tell both the Church and the Academy about this Sage-level relic almost simultaneously. That way, everyone gets the reward."
Miss Bei Yasi turned back to look at him in surprise, her pretty eyes studying Xia De:
"Detective, you really... do have ideas."
Besides Xia De recounting last night's events, Miss Bei Yasi also shared with Xia De matters big and small around the Tobesk diocese. The Church's Ring Mages certainly knew more than the Academy faction's, and what Miss Bei Yasi focused on was still the Lakeview Manor incident and last Saturday night's events.
Under the Church's push, those incidents had been investigated further—including the relic going out of control and the origins of the evil god—basically all sorted out. Unfortunately, the Church was currently tracking down that fish scale within the diocese, hoping to find a lead on the "high-ring Ring Ringed Ringed Shushi" who cast the maze lock.
And with that, the fish scale in Miss Lu Lu Lu Yisha's hands would be even harder to sell.
"Detective, where did you just go? On a commission?"
Miss Bei Yasi was also curious about their chance encounter with Xia De.
"No, I just came from the Prophets' Association. I ran into Mr. Stan, the head of the Tobesk branch, there."
Xia De said, holding his book. Xiao Xiao Miya lay stretched out long on his lap, her chin resting against his leg—she seemed to like this posture for some reason.
"Mr. Stan? Oh? He's actually back?"
Miss Bei Yasi was quite surprised by this, and even briefly relaxed her observation of the outside, turning around to chat with Xia De:
"Mr. Yadice Stan can be considered the most formidable diviner stationed in the Tobesk diocese. Although he's only ten rings himself, his divination skill is extremely high. I heard that not long ago, he was commissioned by the Creation Church to go out to the Tobesk countryside to assist that 'Iron Right Hand' Sari Pilot in handling an angel-level relic out-of-control incident. Since he's back, Mr. Pilot should be back soon too. Add to that tomorrow, when our Church's thirteen-ring Ring Ringed Ringed Shushi arrives in Tobesk—at that point, this diocese will have two thirteen-ring Ring Mages."
It was Xia De's first time hearing of cooperation between the Prophets' Association and the Zhengshen Sect Church, but what he cared about was something else:
"Is Mr. Stan's divination skill really that high? Actually, I had him do a divination for me today too, but he didn't seem to use any Ring Ringed Ringed Shushi methods."
He set down his book and asked cautiously.
"Of course Mr. Stan's divination skill is very high. If I had to give an example..."
Miss Bei Yasi thought for a moment:
"If there were only one person in all of Tobesk who could divine the Silver-Eyed One's location, it would definitely be him. But Detective, a brilliant diviner can divine even without Ring Ringed Ringed Shushi abilities—it's a kind of talent. Of course, it could also be a unique ability of his 'Other Me.' But Mr. Stan has always been cautious—any divination he makes will very likely come true... What did he divine for you?"
The young Miss with long brown hair asked curiously:
"Good news or bad news?"
"He said he saw a knight."
Xia De was still puzzled by this.
"A knight? Is that some kind of metaphor?"
Miss Bei Yasi asked, puzzled. Seeing that Xia De couldn't offer an answer either, she looked at his face again and changed the subject:
"There's something I've actually been wanting to ask you. I only just remembered recently—our first meeting should have been at that pet shop, right?"
"Yes, why bring that up?"
Xia De asked, puzzled.
"The reason I didn't recall our first meeting before wasn't because I forgot—it was because your face looks a little different from the first time we met."
The young Miss with long brown hair furrowed her brow slightly.
"My appearance has changed?"
He touched his own face in confusion, then remembered that Old John had said something similar last night.
"No, it's not a big change—just some subtle difference."
Miss Bei Yasi squinted and thought for a moment:
"People who see you often, or if you look at yourself every day, you probably wouldn't notice at all. But we didn't meet again until a week later. At Lakeview Manor, weren't you pretending to be hypnotized by the squad captain? I didn't recognize you then because the first time we met we just brushed past each other, and the second time your face was a little different."
"Something like that happened?"
He set the lazy cat down on the sofa, ignoring its displeasure, and walked briskly to the washroom. He looked at his own face in the mirror every morning when he washed up, and he hadn't noticed anything different.
"Simply put, probably a bit more handsome than before. I don't mean anything by it—it's the truth."
Miss Bei Yasi's voice continued from the kitchen.
"Handsome?"
Xia De stretched his neck in front of the washstand, examining the face in the mirror. The original former vagrant's face could only barely meet Xia De's aesthetic standards. As for handsome, he really couldn't see it.
But this time, the face shape was still the same as before, the features... were indeed quite a bit more comely than before. And more importantly, from a certain angle, he could faintly see traces of his original face on this typically Caucasian one.
It wasn't very obvious—just as Miss Beyas said, it was merely that the originally passable face had undergone some subtle changes. These subtle changes made the face the Outsider wore become... somewhat handsome.
Since Miss Beyas said that when she met Xia De in the garden maze of Lakeview Manor, his face was already somewhat different, then this certainly couldn't be because of that drop of divinity—the divinity had only appeared after the second encounter with Miss Beyas.
"Could it be that the soul influenced the body?"
He wondered to himself, then asked the voice in his heart.
【Perhaps that's the case.】
She whispered softly in his ear.
"This shouldn't count as a bad thing, right?"
He examined the face in the mirror. Having been in this unfamiliar world for over half a month, he had basically accepted this appearance:
"As long as the changes aren't too obvious, it doesn't count as a bad thing."
He finally reached this conclusion.
The two of them spent a pleasant afternoon together. Xia De vaguely felt that, on the road to becoming friends, allies, or even intimate partners with Miss Beyas, for some reason, he was probably a bit faster than the purple-eyed diviner.
Moreover, Miss Beyas actually took the initiative to mention Miss Anate in front of Xia De:
"Detective, if you still want to do divination, I've recently met a very good diviner. Although I'm not sure if she's a Ring Ringed Ringed Shushi, she could probably help you. If there's a chance, I'll introduce you. However..."
Miss Beyas hesitated for a moment.
"What is it?"
Xia De picked up his water glass, preparing to drink.
"However, I always feel that that beautiful female diviner approached me for some other purpose. It's not malice, but it's strange—I just feel she has some other purpose... Could it be that she likes me?"
Xia De, who was drinking water, nearly spat it out. But even so, he still choked and coughed violently. As his body trembled, he woke the cat that had been napping. It nimbly stood up from Xia De's lap, meowed "Meow~" at Miss Beyas, but didn't lose its temper, because it was about time for the cat's customary stroll around the house.
"So, do you think I approached you for some other purpose?"
After coughing a few times, in order not to ruin the good impression Miss Anate had worked hard to build in front of Miss Beyas, Xia De could only change the subject.
"Me approaching you? Isn't it always me approaching you?"
Miss Beyas said strangely, then counted off one by one:
"The pet shop was a chance encounter. At Lakeview Manor, you couldn't wait to stay away from us. The Lucky Southern Cross Club that day, I was the one who came to you. The night you played Luo De Pai, I was also the one who came to you for help. Today was a genuine chance encounter. Detective, when have you ever approached me?"
She turned her back to Xia De and gave a soft laugh:
"Come to think of it, sometimes I even feel that every time you talk to me, you seem to be avoiding me a little."
